  1. OK, can you post your machine specs.

Also do you have an internet connection when you are using the software?

Is the lighting device one from a Vectorworks Library? Or a device you have created?

    Are you on VW2023SP4.

Lastly we updated the Light Info Record in 2023. Is this a file that was made before September last year?

If so can you import a new light info record from the library's? You can do this by inserting a lighting device from one of our librarys into the document.

Lastly, can you post a file.

  2. I am just wondering how intensive this would be as you would be rendering and redraw/refresh twice the amount of objects in a scene. The objects in the design layer and additionally the objects in the camera view redrawing on the screen. I wondered if having cameras output an NDI stream externally from VW and then play NDI feeds on screen and tv objects in VW would be more efficient.

This would link in to some other requests about LED screens and monitors playing back content live in VW.

As there are rendering implications to this workflow I am going to tag @bbudzon as this might thread might be of interest.

  3. Yes,

Create a saved view of anything, then right click on that saved view (Activate in new pane).

Then open the visualisation palate and select the camera you want for that pane.

Then click back on your main screen to deselect the newly open pane.

Drag that pane across to your external display.

  4. Hi Chris

Vectorworks Spotlight will give total hung weight.

Braceworks will give you point load force and truss deflection/bend.

Braceworks works with the existing lighting pipe tool. The M10 studding would be part of the insert connection tool workflow.

The existing soft goods tool is Braceworks Compliant although depending what you need you should look at the rigging load tools also.

Your symbols if they are Vectorworks content should already have a weight.

I will DM you my email address.

  5. Is this from a file you created prior to 2023? Or are you using your own content/symbols created in an earlier version of Vectorworks?

If this is a brand new file using Vectorworks Stock Symbols and you are getting this performance issue please can you email in the file or post here?

Have you tried the new graphic legends yet?

  6. Hi Nick, find out what classes are controlling the 3d lable legends.

2d legends are assigned classes however, 3d legends are only assigned classes if you have set that up. Its likely that the 3d legend is on the none class.

Assign a class to those legend fields and it should work.

  7. Hi Stefan

    Sheet layers...

In my current project sharing file, I can duplicate sheet layers without having to have all of them checked out. In Tools - Organization and clicking duplicate. It temporarily checks out the objects I am duplicating on each sheet but I could then save and comit.

Other entertainment customers currently doing project sharing usually have the sheet layers set up before work commences, Or in some firms its the CAD managers responsibility to create sheet layers. Either way I would recommend setting up the organization first.

    Design Layers

How have you and your colleagues decided to work? It looks like you are just making edits and then any affected objects are being forced to be checked out. I would not reccomend working in this way.

The best way to work is for each user to check out the layer before commencing work, they can then leave a message to their colleagues that they are working on that layer within Vectorworks itself. Once they have finished they can save and commit.  It's really about the layer structure...

Project sharing works well when a lighting designer is collaborating with other disciplins such as Scenic,  Video and Audio. By each department having its own set of layers to work in there are very few conflicts.

It becomes tricky when multiple lighting people need access to the same layers at the same time. This is tricky and can often be resolved by the creation of a temporary layer and then a designated person (admin) who can re-assign objects.

To be honest project sharing is not something I would attempt without setting all of this up first. You also need to establish groundrules with all stakeholders before you get going.

Also make sure everyone not only saves and commits but also waits for their cloud service provider to finish writing the file to the cloud. Also make sure that there are at least 2 admins in case one is not around when layers are needed to be forced to be released.

Also do not put your working file in the same place as your project file. Backup your working file as a .vwx each night Each day DELETE yesterdays working file and create a new file by opening the vwxp. This is the only way you can be sure of no sync errors.

  8. OK, I can see that there is an issue in your file. Are these lighting symbols from an older version of Vectorworks? We made a ton of changes to the back end of the lighting device in 2023. Replacing them with Vectorworks symbols in 2023 does resolve the issue.

I am not sure why the older symbols are not updating their frame size, I will report it.
