  1. The graphic modes are like juggling with three balls: You can't have everything at the same time, and you must keep moving to avoid crashing! It's like the engineers thought "Um....we don't know what's wrong....but try THESE". 😁
  2. Hi all. The ceiling grid tool is very handy when it comes to actual grids and their adjustments. However, we are in the BIM world now and we can't adjust the thickness of suspended ceiling panels!!! (Unless this has been changed in 2020, I'm still in 2019.) Also, we can't adjust the type, form or dimensions of the profile system. We need tool a that can be used in a PROFESSIONAL BIM workflow, please. There are workarounds with the slab tool, but then that tool doesn't create any grids, does it. Current ceiling grid 3D thickness is one inch. The profiles are a bit more. Take it or leave it. I can't display the grid my sections since, depending on the case, the correct thickness is eg. 40mm + 50mm for the profile system. BTW The profile system could be extrusion-based like suggested for window frames, maybe also the panels. Edit: Well, apparently one can push/pull the ceiling grid...however it creates a solid slab.
  3. @Jim Smith Yeah but the line doesn't then follow the text, this is a bit handier. 😁 As to the original wish: When do we get a strikethrough font to VW? It can't be THAT difficult, since it's in Word, Excel...and it's VERY NECESSARY for an architect. Please!
  4. Hi all, We often need to create a worksheet that fits on an A4 (or letter etc.), and, if necessary, automatically spans to multiple A4's. Currently this is not possible, as far as I know? One can of course manually set up sheets but the workflow is cumbersome and there are many practical issues with this system. I'll give an example: For the builder, we need to print A4-size sheets or sheet sets for each room, listing everything that concerns that room. These include surface finishes, furniture, equipment, special considerations etc. It's a comprehensive room schedule that functions as a checklist fo the builder. We can set up the worksheet to do this, but we can't make the layout to work intelligently. In other words, we need a sheet that has one title, eg. "Room 001", is A4 size, and automatically creates further sub-sheets if the worksheet does not fit onto one page. I'm sure there are other cases that require similar approach, other than room schedules. The need to create sub-sheets also arises with traditional large sheets, if the worksheet is long enough.
  5. Just ran into this issue. Skewing the rendering in Photoshop is very old-school, perpspective correction is for professionals.
  6. The solution tagging idea is excellent. I've previously wished for a "Known Tips, Tricks and Workarounds" -thread, solution tagging would be along the same lines. Currently the solutions, invaluable tips, tricks and workarounds are buried under zillions of posts. We need some kind of concentrated and organized knowledge base for solutions.
  7. Hi all, AFAIK it's not possible to stretch a window or a door to a desired width (this functionality has been wished for previously). How about then if we could measure the desired size from the drawing, as with the scale tool? Quite frequently there is a spot into which the door/window has to fit. Currently the only way to get the exact size is to measure the space available and then input it manually to the window OIP. There could be a button in the window OIP with measuring options a bit like below:
  8. Hi all, AFAIK, when exporting a DWG for engineers, the "adjust flipped text" function doesn't work. The result is that, to the engineer, door tags (and some other PIO tags) look like this: While some texts/tags can be flipped manually, I haven't figured out a way of doing this for doors and windows without affecting their handedness. Is there a way? If not, my wish is for NNA to add a "flip tag" functionality so that we can export DWG's that are properly readable.
  9. An option for the window (and door) tool: Ability to create extrusion-based window geometry from a detail section. That way the windows would finally be geometrically correct. Often a detail section of a certain kind of window configuration is available from a manufacturer -> easy to set up an extrusion, in principle. While it is currently possible via a custom symbol, due to the time required and difficulty of editing, that is not a desired workflow.
  10. I'd also like an option to create an extrusion-based window geometry from a detail section. That way the windows would finally be geometrically correct. We have triple and even quadruple glazing in different configurations, different types of sills etc etc. This lack of attention to architects' most important tools is amazing. Edit: Often we get a detail section of the window from a manufacturer -> easy to set up an extrusion. While it is possible via custom symbol, due to the time required that is not feasible.
  11. Hi all, I'm getting this error message at opening a VW 2019 SP 5.3 file. Is there a way to find these "some objects"? Other than finding them manually, by chance.
  12. Here is a quick "workaround" example for old elevation values that won't apply any longer. Create a simple symbol with a horizontal line and a a text object linked to a custom record. This works since the elevation range stays roughly the same, meaning that the elevation text length remains the same. I'm pretty sure it's possible to write a Marionette script that would make the line length follow the text width?
  13. I concur. Strikethrough is essential for council approval documents. Extremely laborous and annoying to manually draw lines over numbers.
  14. Some ideas to try -Check 3D conversion settings in preferences, set to low for diagnosing purposes -Check viewport settings, set detail levels etc. to low -Check model geometry for insanely high number of polys -Check viewport rendering settings, turn off everything except eg. openGL -If still no difference turn off classes in the viewport and start turning them on one by one to find the culprit -Turn off planar information in the viewport -Check that no extra layers are visible in the viewport Hidden line viewports can be notoriusly slow, also room elevations.
  15. After hiring a new employee, after a week or so has passed come the dreaded questions about the screen, screen aligned, 3D and working planes....they notice very quickly, that the boss might not be in complete control of these concepts himself...
  16. Texture mapping controls are not available for subdivision objects, please see attached. In order to properly render a simple subdivision object with correct mapping, the subdivision has to be converted to eg. a set of 3D polygons, thus losing subdivision editability.
  17. I cannot apply the mapping to a subdivision object even manually, that's the problem. Automatic operation would be great, but now I just want access to mapping controls.
  18. Ok thanks. That answer was exactly what I was afraid of... 🙂 As a workaround I can change the subdivision object to eg. a 3D polygon and then map that. However, having to do so doesn't make any sense - what's the point of a subdivision object if it cannot be mapped=rendered properly? ...Or am I missing something obvious? Or is this something that has been completely overlooked?
  19. Hi all, How do I control the direction of a (texture) surface hatch when applied to a subdivision? Attribute mapping doesn't work and I don't see any controls in the OIP? It doesn't matter if I select the whole subdivision of just one face. Please see attached
  20. Interesting, thanks! I didn't know one could do that.
  21. If I may, how does one build levels into the IF function?
  22. Well well! This old thread saved my day. Using commas or dots did't work - but semicolon works! Why such hidden tricks....I was going nuts with my worksheets.
