  1. Thanks! So, the video card is not that important? Or should I upgrade that too? After all, it's only money......
  2. So which would be a better combination, faster processor or better video card? Is there really that much difference between 2G dual and a 2.5G?
  3. I am about to get a new machine. I am currently usung a dual 1G Mac with a GeForce 4MX video card (64mb). 1.5M RAM I am going to upgrade to a G5. The question I have is whether to go with a dual 2G with a top of the line video card (GeForce 6800 Ulta DDL or Radeon 9800 XT. Both are 256mb), or a dual 2.5G with a Radeon 9600 XT 128mb. I guess the question is which is more important, processor speed, or video card. I am assuming video card. I am currently using Architect/Renderworks 11.0.1 and do alot of 3D + Renderworks. Sometimes complex models will loose OpenGL interactivity and become wireframe when rotating, etc. Hope the new machine will solve that! Sorry for the long post!
  4. Have you considered a Mac? We use a dual 800 with 1.2 g ram. VW 9.5 works great with OS 10.1.2

    Door Swings

I too thought it was not fixed after downloading the final 9.5. I trashed the beta folder and downloaded the full install version and re-installed. Now everthing works fine. (Mac version)
  6. We use an Encad Cadjet 2 with the Microspot driver. Have had it for 3+ years, and it works great. E-size plots, 300 dpi (color too, though not "photo quality" by any means. Fairly fast, can plot in the background, roll feed with auto sheet cutter. Plotter paid for itself long ago and is still going strong. We charge clients $4.00 per plot (other architects charge up to $15!), and a roll of trans-bond is $18.00.
  7. I think the problem is the first 3-sided polygon. In my experience, polygons must be "closed" to render properly, otherwise only the edges will render. Try creating your polygon, then check "closed" in the info. pallete.

    Mac Open GL

New system: G4 Dual 800, 1.2G RAM, Geforce 2 Twinview card. OS9.2, and 10.1.1 Old system: G3 - 300 (sonnet), 128M RAM, ATI Radeon card., OS9.1 Has anyone else had this problem? Upgraded from VWA - RW 8.5 to VWA - RW 9.1. Began to think it might have been a mistake...Rendered models will no longer work interactively. As models move (rotate, flyover, etc.) they revert to wireframe and re-render when stoped. Interactive rendering worked fine in 8.5 on the old system. I e-mailed Tech Support and got no response. I called Tech Support and was told that it is a problem with openGL and the Geforce card. I was told that 9.5(7) fixes the problem. OK, but 9.5(7) is a beta release and requires OS 10.1, (which we had not yet tried)...... Bottom line...made the switch to OS10.1.1 VWA-RW 9.5(7) and LOVE it! (so far...) very elegant and FAST . OS 10 is great and all other apps. work well under Classic. Interactive rendering is back. (Was this a Mac only problem....what are other users experiences)? There IS a bug with the door swings however (see post). Just thought I would share...

Thanks, that will work for 2D drawings as a quick fix, but does defeat the purpose of using symbols. Hope this is fixed in the final release of 9.5.

Message sent. Is there a work-around?

    Door Swings

When running VW 9.5-7, Mac OS 10.1.1 door swings don't register properly. Some doors have the arc swinging backwards. Flipping the doors corrects the problem only in certain directions. Doors were originally symbols from VW 8.5.3. Problem does not show up in VW 9.1.....any ideas?
