  1. Meanwhile, as I am having to quickly wrap up a project before heading out—a file which I hadn't touched since working on it in VW23 and which had no problem then—I have so far in 5 minutes had to restart VW24 twice because of this glitch.
  2. Hi, Jeff. No time right now to post a file and won't be able to for a week. Heading out your direction as a matter of fact to visit my sister. Meanwhile, though, could you please clarify something? Initially you said what you saw happening all the time with your clients was them "accidentally put[ting themselves] in "show others" mode. Now it seems you're suggesting something else completely different as happening all the time. Is it that both things happen all the time? And, when you suggest it's "something in the file" what might one look for to determine this? Again, this is completely new behavior, so I am puzzled as to why if it's a common issue I have never seen it before in nearly 25 years of using VW?
  3. OK, here's an example screen recording. Screen Recording 2024-03-11 at 12.43.46 PM.mov
  4. Yup (though I haven't noticed the latter, probably because I use key commands for almost everything). A colleague of mine who's on this board and has almost exact same H/W & S/W setup as mine told me he's seen the issue, too. What's your setup, JoarL?
  5. Thanks, Virtual. Next time it happens I'll do this and post. The behavior is not something I know how to replicate. I suppose if I did a solution would be more readily apparent.
  6. I'm back. Waited to see for sure if that was the issue, Jeff. It is definitely not. I know there's a way to do a video of my workspace to demonstrate the weird behavior, just haven't taken the time yet to remind myself how so I can post here.
  7. I'm almost always in Show/Snap Others for Layers, and Show/Snap/Modify for Classes, so no accident. Again, never had this issue before. Perhaps what's different in my cases are one of the visible layers is a pdf with "Snap to Geometry" on and/or a visible layer being a site model generated for a point cloud(?) I've done the former plenty over the years, though. Using point cloud data is newer, but not that new. I've done similar processes for at least two prior versions of VW.
  8. Thanks, Jeff. I have never ever in 25 years of working with VW experienced this issue, regardless of whatever Class or Layer control setting I was using. Why now?
  9. Anyone else having a problem in which the Selection Box / Snap Box gets disabled for unknown reason? It switches to just a cursor arrow (with imprecise selection). It doesn't matter which file I'm working on. I find I have to restart VW to get it working again. Not good for productivity! Hopefully this is a known issue and will be fixed in next SP release! A guy who helps me out and has similar setup (machine and S/W versions) said he's seen same problem.
  10. Thanks, Pat, that's a helpful consideration. @bcdI have never needed much storage. After 22 years of running my business I still have plenty of available space on my current 512GB drive. And, I could easily free up 100 GB when I get around to housecleaning, which I plan to before migrating to the new computer.
  11. I'm about to decide between acquiring the Mac Mini M2 Pro (512 SSD, 32 RAM, 12/19/16 (cpu/gpu/engine cores)) or the Studio M1 Max (512 SSD, 32 RAM, at 10/24/16). Same price for both at $2,000, and I've seen arguments for either. I also followed this thread, PM'd Don for his opinion, and would like to hear others. I'm all ears. Would you go for the hopped up Mini because it has the newer chip, 2 more cpu cores but 5 less gpu cores, but also less ports than the Studio? That thread seems to suggest the Mini at 32 GB RAM beats out the Studios with 64 GB, at least for that rendering test, and definitely the price. Also, I am only ever going to use one display (an LG 4K Ultrafine I just purchased) and, for more background: My files are of fully modeled/rendered residences, with site model files referenced. File sizes usually range between 220 and 360 MB. I've been on iMacs for the last 12 or more years, and my current is a 2019. I usually hope to get 6 years of use, but it can not now keep pace with VW current versions, and would hope that whichever I purchase can get me back on that 6 year cycle. Which of these would be more future proof? Finally, VW is the only thing I do with my computer that needs power. I don't do gaming, video editing, etc.
  12. Thanks, Jeff. Definitely couldn't use an ergo stand, and couldn't find a non-ergo option. Also, I'm good with sticking to 27". After more hand-wringing and reading Amazon reviews and Q&As I decided to go with the 27UP850N-W. They really don't make it easy to compare products. You have to weed through a lot of stuff. For instance: In answer to a Q on Amazon, a MFR rep says: "The only difference between Model # 27UP850-W and Model # 27UP850N-W is that the USB-C port for Model # 27UP850-W has a PD (Power Delivery) of up to 96W and that for Model # 27UP850N-W has a PD of up to 90W. The "AUS" at the end of the model numbers for both monitors is a factory suffix that is used for internal purposes...^Ivan " Here's another: Question: LG 27 UP850 - is it ultrafine monitor or not? Answer: Even though it is not advertised as an 'UltraFine' monitor on our site or on Amazon, the LG 27” IPS 4K UHD VESA HDR400 USB-C Monitor, Model # 27UP850-W is a 4K monitor (i.e. 3840 x 2160 or UHD) and all LG 4K and 5K monitors are LG UltraFine™ Monitors...^Ivan And another: Question: What is the difference between this model and the 27up80b-w Answer: The 27UP850-W UHD monitor has Anti-Glare surface treatment, slightly stronger USB-C charging ability, Wide Color Gamut, Auto Input Switch, and has the stand has the ability to adjust the height and pivot of the screen. ^Jennifer Even though the the 27up80b-w is very similar to the 27up850-w you can't find the 27up80b-w on Amazon. That model/model number appears reserved for BestBuy. Now I have to wring my hands over the decision between the Mac Mini M2 Pro (512 SSD, 32 RAM, 12/19/16 (cpu/gpu/engine cores)) and the Studio M1 Max (512 SSD, 32 RAM, at 10/24/16). Same price for both, and I've seen arguments for either. If you or anyone else has an opinion, I'm all ears. Would you go for the hopped up Mini because it has the newer chip, 2 more cpu cores but 5 less gpu cores, but also less ports than the Studio? Or should I put that as a new post/thread?
  13. So, I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger, and will either be a hopped up Mac Mini M2 Pro, or the Studio M1 Max, but have a question about displays: There was this thread last year which mentioned "LG Ultrafines" as being good option, and I've seen comments elsewhere saying same thing, but which specific model(s)? There seem to be a few different 27" ones available, with slightly different specs, and I have also seen comments which suggest a better-than-60hz refresh rate would be good, which none of the LGs I saw had. Is that important? Maybe I should just ask: what specs should I consider as essential? I do render and am moving more to using TwinMotion than RW. Would like good color accuracy.
  14. Thanks for that tip. Looks like I'll have to go that direction. At least the resale value on my iMac is still pretty decent.
  15. I have a 2019 iMac (see specs below) which has handled my projects well—through VW 2022. My files are of fully modeled/rendered residences, with site model files referenced. File sizes usually range between 220 and 360 MB. VW 2023 now seems laggy after awhile working on a file, and I notice on my Activity Monitor swaps being used much more quickly. I have to do restarts to get back to good function. Do I really have to upgrade now, and would the current iMacs not cut it? I have preferred the iMac both for economy (even with the upgraded RAM; I can't afford a $5,000 setup; and I used to get 6 years out of iMacs). I know the graphics card is now not on recommended list, and I wonder whether—having just learned about them—I can keep going with my iMac successfully with VW 2023 adding on an eGPU? Does an eGPU interact with the RAM such that I won't see the same drag on RAM? Any thoughts, input? BTW, while I can use some of the terminology, please keep replies in plain speak. I'm not that tech savvy!
  16. Thanks, Benson. If I didn't have 2021 to revert back to I would do that, or just stack two walls, one with door and one with windows. Too bad bugs have to go and make life more complicated!
  17. Correct. No Wall Closure. Using "1" Exterior Component for Exterior Wall Detail.
  18. Thanks for digging deeper. Much appreciated. Pat, have you given it a shot?
  19. Not specific to a 4-panel door. Attached .vwx file has the wall with 4 different configurations. Also attached is a new screenshot for reference. Window over door problem.vwx
  20. Et voila! (Switching it up!;-) Vielen Dank, Zoomer! I guess I need to wait for SP3 or revert to 2021 on this one.
  21. Understood, @Boh and @E/FA, but these windows are meant to be clerestory windows, not combined into one unit with door as transom window(s). Definitely not changing the design just because the software won't currently let me do what I need to do!🙄 Instead I'd go with the option of keeping to 2021 for this project unless issue is resolved.
  22. @michaelk Nope. Tried that. @zoomer Sprechen Sie Deutsch? Ich kann, nur ein bisschen, so I suppose that won't help for me to easily find that (unless the German Forum ist auf Englisch)! Do you think you would be able to find that again? @Tom W. I tried this, shifting varying degrees, both beyond edge of door below and toward center of door. Nope!
  23. The attached screenshot of wall model is from a .vwx file which was updated from 2021 to 2022. The wall is 14' tall and the window is supposed to be a clerestory window over a 4-panel sliding door. Actually I had 3 clerestory windows but deleted two to illustrate the problem better. As you can see the brick veneer (and probably other components) are extending below the window obscuring part of the door. What gives? I've tried multiple settings and have noticed the window and door tool now have new features. I tried a variety of settings to see whether any of those could be the issue, to no avail. The 2021 file did not exhibit this problem.
  24. Still keeping my eyes and ears open... My search for immediate/long term assistance is still active... Summary of Major Requirements: • Vectorworks 2022 software, including Renderworks • Residential design experience, from schematic through production of CDs for permits, with a competent working knowledge of the IRC (Virginia-adopted version, available online) • Fluency using Vectorworks, including 3D tools along with rendering • Construction knowledge, preferably with some hands-on experience • Some knowledge of green building techniques • Strong communication skills • Ability to listen well and take direction, yes, but also able to provide useful design and technical input as well (I'm willing to learn from you!) • Ability to take my developed 3D models and create CD/permit-ready sets using the system most comfortable and efficient for you, with detailing and specs consistent with construction methodologies in my area of the country and to my standard documentation level • Must be able to demonstrate through portfolio or samples of work the ability to produce well-detailed and organized construction documents (full set with candidate producing it in entirety: plans, framing plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules, etc.) • References required • Knows and lives the Golden Rule. Preferred: • Willingness and ability to relocate to a very scenic, pastoral area of the country with a slower pace of life, and possibly take over my business in the long term. Due to the influence of nearby Virginia Tech this area is in a sustained growth mode. U.S. residents only
  25. Jumping onto/re-starting this thread because I'm trying to find out how to import a .laz file from my state's inventory so that I can create a site model for a home I'm designing. The file is one grid/panel, and is 49.9MB in size. When I try to import, whether drag and drop or using the drop-down menu VW crashes immediately. Is this because the file is so large VW can't even handle opening up the importing parameters menu? I don't speak/understand techno/code language so if someone could answer in an "Idiot's Guide to..." fashion I would greatly appreciate it! A simple step-by-step would be great, including the possibility of a workaround (if the file is too large for VW to handle) such as: if there's a way to use the .laz file in some open source easy-to-use software in which I can see topo lines in place on an aerial image, then take a screenshot and trace them with 3D polys, that'd work. Think cardboard topo models from architecture school years ago. Accurate enough. Thanks in advance.
