  1. Thanks Kizza and Kevin. It seems like, ignoring surface hatches, the hidden line mode can merge two roofs to show them as one plane. See attached. This is what I'm going for. I think that unlike this practice file, my project file contains imperfect geometries, and that is my problem with the roofs. Let me know if that's incorrect.
  2. Hey again, I've had an issue with coplanar objects, namely roofs, appearing in hidden line view with a line between them. The line outlined in red in the attachment is unwanted as that roof kind of continues on down to cover the garage. I turned the smoothing angle up really high in the hopes that the line would go away. No luck there though, and I come to realize that the roofs are probably not actually perfectly coplanar, although they have the same slope and I intend for them to be coplanar. It looks like one's slightly off of square. Is there any setting of sensitivity that will let VW not "see" the very very very slight imperfections in my model? Or any other ideas? Amelia VW2015
  3. Hi everyone, Any suggestions for how to work with a situation like we have at the front wall of this house? I know it's atypical, but we run into similar issues regularly. In this model, the short wall at the garage and the tall wall with two windows in it next to it are in the same plane. I can’t join them, however, without unjoining the tall wall and the high wall that creates a corner with it. I guess I essentially want two different joins at the end of one wall, depending on its elevation. Usually I create some sort of patch in the annotation viewport, but when there are lots of shaded hidden line viewports, that gets difficult. Thanks for helping!! Amelia VW 2015 P.S. A similar issue with unwanted lines between two objects representing one continuous plane occurs on the low slope roof in the attached image. I'm posting separately about that.
  4. Hello, I'd like to be able to have unequal open angles for bi-parting doors in plan. Please see the linked thread for details on my firm's desired look and the workarounds that we currently use to get past this gap. Thread on support forum Thank you!! PS - We're using the most current version of VW 2015.
  5. Thank you all! I'll be adding this to the Wish List momentarily.
  6. I've attached an example of what we're trying to do. A regular french door has been covered up in the viewport annotations to show one leaf at 45 degrees.
  7. Hi, Since switching to 3D work, my firm has struggled with plan representations of double doors. I don't know how standard this convention is, but we typically show one leaf open 45 degrees and the other at 90. It's our way of saying that both leaves are operable, but the one at 90 is the active leaf. Is there any way to accomplish this in Vectorworks without a cumbersome workaround? Is this a request that would benefit others? I'll definitely be adding it as a wish list request if I'm correct that it's not possible. Thank you, Amelia VW 2015
  8. Sorry it's taken me a bit to get back to you. I was going to post a file here. I duplicated the original and deleted (and purged) all but one object to try to get it under the 2MB forum limit, but it has bottomed out at 3MB. So I tried copying and pasting an object from the problem file into a "blank" file. I imported the render style from the problem file. It works correctly! I'm able to do both of the things I was trying to do (see second post). This implies to me that I have a setting (or a corruption) in the original file, not associated with a particular object, render style, or viewport. It affects any viewport in which I use a Renderworks Style. The problem is it is in a file where I don't want to lose the rest of my work or have to rebuild viewports. Any more ideas? Thank you SO much for your help. Do you still think it would help to share the pared-down problem file? Through DropBox, I guess?
  9. I've tried importing old Renderworks Styles from files where the sketch lines are appropriately absent in my renderings. This still doesn't change anything, so I'm wondering if there's a file-wide setting that causes all renderworks styles to use sketch lines?
  10. Benson, In the first screenshot I attached, there are sketch lines around the desired Realistic Color White rendering. That is what I'm trying to get rid of (so it looks like the second screenshot) I tried all of your suggestions, and unfortunately, nothing seems to be working. There's not an "offending object" so much as an offending render style that affects every object. Well, not a render style, just a haunting where every viewport has sketch lines on it. These lines show up in other Renderworks Styles too, such as Realistic Exterior Fast, which I haven't edited at all. They don't however, show up in the render modes that are not Styles, such as Fast Renderworks. Alan, Thank you, ideally I want to use one viewport to show shading and hard lines, but that is where I ran into this trouble. That's a good suggestion to use different classes for the two layers of viewports. Thanks!
  11. To clarify: I'd like to either A - get me back to two separate viewports - one regular hidden line and one lineless white shader B - help me figure out how to use the foreground/background to have a clean hidden line over a shaded render style.
  12. Any idea why this viewport is acting like I have a hidden line foreground for it? I don't. I also don't have "Sketch" checked in the render style. The image without the outlines is what I'm looking for in this viewport. It was working just fine behind another viewport which was in hidden line. But I thought it would be cool to get both things in one viewport and I thought it was possible. And when I tried to add a hidden line foreground to the viewport, the sketch lines started showing up and now I can't get rid of them. Thanks! Using VW 2015
  13. I'd like to back up the suggestion to improve abilities to cancel actions. One day I'll learn, but I often find myself hitting update on a viewport before I'm ready. And in many of my files, there's a long lag time after I press update and before the teapot shows up, while VW is temporarily frozen. If I try to do anything during this time, VW crashes. Likewise, sometimes I accidentally hit "edit design layer" instead of "edit annotations" in a wall section viewport, and I have to sit there while the hidden line view renders. I'm almost always unable to cancel with the escape key, or instigate a crash by hitting escape.
  14. Thanks Peter. Looks like I forgot to attach the sample list. It seems like a good wish list item to me.
  15. Can you model the muntins in a window like this using the window tool? Please pardon the inelegant photo.
  16. Hey guys! Here's something that's kind of trivial but I figured I may as well ask. Is it possible to have a numbered list with the text automatically justified to the left, a little bit away from the numbers? I've tried to explain my question and/or wishlist request graphically in the attached numbered list. Thanks!
  17. Thanks everyone, Your suggestions brought me to realize I could make a sweep with a rectangle (had a hard time giving the cone thickness) and then solid subtract it. It worked out well without any lines showing up.
  18. Well, it's a roof. I've tried converting it to a mesh and NURBS but that doesn't really change anything besides making it harder to manipulate.
  19. Hey y'all, Does anyone know if there's a way to make a complex form like this (it's the rounded metal roof over a bay window) show up in Hidden Line view without the intermediate lines? I'm not used to non-planar geometries in vectorworks. I know they are real seams, but they conflict with the standing seams that I have built to be at 16" on center at the edge. It seems like the smoothing angle has no effect on this. Likewise for the "generate intersecting lines" box. Thanks!
  20. bcd, I've established that it is associated with my Level 1 layer. When I turn on all of the Classes (when I'm in any design layer), I do not see the ghost. When I turn on all of the Classes in a Viewport, I do see the ghost (if Level 1 is on). I tried to custom select and delete all EAPs (first in Level 1, then in the entire file), but the ghost still appears in the viewports. Please see attached screenshot comparison. Also, when I turn on all of the classes, and have only the Level 1 layer on, and copy everything there and paste it to a new file, the problem is resolved.
  21. Hmm, good suggestions. I had a DLVP, but I deleted it before I noticed the problem. The EAPS are not part of hybrid objects. I can't rule either of those ideas out, but I'm starting to think it's just some weird corruption. I appreciate your thoughts so much!
  22. You know how viewports have snapping abilities and the object shows gray when you hover over it? Well everything acts like that in these viewports except for the ghost object.
  23. Yes! Just tried, and it does show up in a new viewport. Odd. And the class visibilities do match.
  24. Fairly large problem: I'm moving along with a set of construction documents, and suddenly I've got some ghost geometry showing up in my sections and elevations. They are 2 Extrude Along Paths (window trim) that do not show up when I "go into the model" in wireframe or Open GL. But in all of my viewports, they are shown. They were meant as window trim, but as the windows have changed, I need to edit the location of the mouldings, but I can't do that because there is no trace of them, even when all of my classes and all of my layers are turned on. I wish they'd just disappeared, as things sometimes do, because I have plenty of backups where the objects are functional. But I can't even delete them! Do I have to create a new file and copy each layer separately and then re-do each viewport? It will take forever. Thanks for any insights as to how this may have come about or may be fixed. 25. I'm trying the Add Solids thing, and it made the program unresponsive. I'm also worried that if that command didn't crash Vectorworks, I wouldn't be able to edit the object. Modeling the different sized panels is a little more in-depth than I want to get at this point in the project, which is why I was trying to make the repetitive unit thing work. It looks great in 3D, it's just the 2D elevations I'm having trouble with. Thanks for the suggestions Benson.
