  1. Sometimes when working with complex and crowded files it's necessary to activate a class a switch the class settings to display active only. This is especially true when importing .dwg files. It would be nice if there was a right click short-cut that would do this in one step similar to the way "Activate Layer/Activate Class" works.
  2. I submitted something along these lines as a wish list item already. We do a large amount of our work with some color fills, textures and lines now that more of the industry has gone digital (PDFs and such). Right now we attempt to streamline our workflow by putting a large amount of effort into setting our template up with all the classes and viewports we need. Our CAD manager has done a great job having viewports ready to go. The only problem is when you need to deviate from the typical classes or graphic style. Then its a lot of eye dropper. https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=199292#Post199292
  3. Does anybody have any thoughts on how best to use detail viewports to key in section details across files? It's somewhat easy to do for plans, but in section I can't think of a work around to get the callouts to push the drawing tag information back into the file it would be pulling the information from. The white paper for multi-user work group is very vague on how to take advantage on some of these features.
  4. I always use the "complex" wall assemblies in my files. Sometimes I'll use the standard VW generated ones, sometimes I create my own depending on the finish and construction of the wall system. It is too easy to incorporate this information into the drawings that it doesn't make sense to me not to do it. It makes it easier to identify possible problems with built up finishes affecting door clearances, ADA requirements, etc. It is also easy to turn this information off in the viewports to so that you can clearly communicate the information that is needed at the scale of your drawing.
  5. The class override feature needs to be a little quicker to implement. Right now, if I need to override class attributes in multiple viewports I have to make the change in one, then use the eyedropper tool to match the settings to others. The issues is if I don't want all settings to move. Why can't I just select the viewports I wish to change and then edit the graphics of the classes? This work flow works for just about every other similar object.
  6. $$$.... that's the only one I've seen after using ArchiCAD, Revit and VW.
  7. It would also be nice if they were somehow able to be accessed or created in a viewport. This way its easier to move it out of the way of dimensions or other notes. And could be the correct scale when viewing objects at different scales.
  8. It would be really really nice (and fast) if after I put a door/room/window on a schedule, I can edit the name/number by just clicking on the tag for that object. Much like editing a text box.
  9. Is it just me or does that seem counter-intuitive?
  10. These are relatively simple examples. Unless I'm missing something with the component join tool. Every "L" join results in a mitered corner.
  11. I'd like to be able to change the way that the components join in the wall join as well. For a 90 degree joint, some components I want to be mitered with a clean joint but some I want to see one as a butt joint.
  12. #4 - It would be great if we could use symbols for the profiles. If I need to use the same trim profile in 8 locations, I have to go track that down to change it when I could just change the symbol once without having to mess with the EAPs. That would really just step up the game #6 - I think the whole wall component system needs to be revised. I'd like to be able to assemble the walls out of set materials that I already define. I.E., if I make a wall w/ a layer of 5/8" (insert metric conversion) GWB, I don't want to have to type in the thickness, class, texture, ect. every time I use that common material. This becomes especially useful for multiple wall types with similar exterior finishes but different substrates or core materials.
  13. You used to be able to use 2d locus for this. For some reason this feature was removed a few versions ago. Could we get this back?
  14. That's my break the glass back up at this point. I hate having to "dumb down" the objects just for exporting. There is supposed to be some efficiency in using these smart programs. If the work flow is to insert smart object then convert to dumb object I might as well skip step one.
  15. I need to export some sections to our design team in dwg format. The issue is that they were created with the create section viewport tool and placed on a sheet layer. We then filled in some of the 2d information with symbols and plug in objects like the detail wood cut. When we export these, some of the symbols, esspecially the detailed wood cut revert to a 1:1 scale size and the drawing becomes unreadable. Any body know of a fix or work around? Do I need to have 2 section files, one with information and 1 with just the building geometry?
  16. Show wall and slab components are checked. If i recreate the viewport, everything displays as it should.
  17. We've been using DLVP and Layer Referencing extensively on a large scale project and have had multiple issues with this as well. Usually we end up having to submit our entire file structure to vectorworks tech support so that they can trouble shoot it and let you know where a problem might be.
  18. Pretty much what the title says. We have a building model file, a interior file for the interiors of the floor plates and then several production files. In the production file, after updating references the building shell layers mysteriously ran off about 300' in the y direction and -250' in the x direction. The interior file stayed in the same location. The floor plan, wall section and elevation files all show the exterior shell in the correct place. Any body have any thoughts other than use a better program because I'm fresh out.
  19. I can't seem to get my wall components to show the right fill in section. I have the section properties set to separate cross sections and use the attributes of the original objects. The only fill I get the walls to display is the fill of the wall group (i.e. Walls - Exterior, Walls - Interior - Bearing, Walls - Interior - Partition). Floor slabs with components on the same classes as the wall components show correctly. Is there something wrong with these sections? Is there some setting that I am missing somewhere?
  20. My guess would be that it is one of the hatches. We resolved this by using class overrides in the viewports to turn all of the hatches off, then back on one by one and do a test print to identify the offending hatch. It's a tedious process that caused us to waste about half a day, but the end result was our ability to purge that hatch from the problem file and any other files as well as the template.
  21. I've had problems with this in the past with different symbols/hatches. Most of the time we just have to recreate the offending objects.
  22. Trying to draw some detailing over a flattened Section DLVP. Using the linear material tool, after I draw the linear material, if I try to stretch it or otherwise edit the length/angle it goes all haywire on me. These photos are a general idea of what keeps happening.
  23. Good thing we went ahead and bought our upgrades for 2014!! Got this nice error message on my first crash of the morning.
