  1. There should be a small node in the center of the id label that you can grab to move it around where you want to.
  2. Just received an out of memory error box that I needed to force the program to close because of. Clicking the "OK" button did nothing. This garbage is just wasting my time...
  3. if you're going to use simple extrudes to generate your 3d geometry, you're better off just using sketchup. simple push pull extrudes eliminate most of the advantage that a smart program is supposed to give you. If you just use sketchup you wouldn't even need to draft 2d elements on top of your elevations to get hatching!!
  4. Just as an FYI: it works fine in plan views, but it won't allow you to do class overrides in section/elevation viewports.
  5. Vincent, we struggled with this as well. We actually had a conference call with Wes to help with setting up the workflow for this and were told that we need to use Layer Referencing and not DLVP in order to facilitate the correct class/layer visibility that we needed. I think there are some major failings in the workflow and functionality of the VW tools when trying to complete large scale projects. Matt, in your instance, there should be a check box on the class visibility palette from the DLVP OIP. The check box reads something like "use document class settings". If you check that, you should be able to control the class visibility of the DLVP in the SLVP.
  6. I've been using Joe's method as well as using it in a layer referencing situation as well. Both work to populate the schedule but you're right Tom, you can't push the information from the schedule to the objects. The work around we've come up with for this is to have the same schedule across the multiple files so that we can open them and push information that way. And that's only because it's easier to edit some of the information from the schedule as opposed to the OIP.
  7. Thats the fairly convoluted workflow that we've had to use in the past to edit roof objects. The result has been a migration from "smart" technology back to drawing with lines and polygons...
  8. It would be nice to be able to tag multiple views with one tag too for interior elevations.
  9. I don't know why this keeps happening but it has us to our wits end. We have layer referencing files and every once in a while, the files go all bugeyed. Walls, doors and other symbols "move" to places that they aren't supposed to be. The only way to fix this is to enter the source file, (which displays the correct information), do something mundane and then save and update the reference in the target file. As a workflow for a multi-user environment, this is cumbersome and extremely time consuming. If the task of having to update references and then viewports wasn't tedious enough already, having to deal with this is becoming extremely detrimental to our efficiency. Here is a screen shot of a very basic instance of what is happening. In this instance, its just one door that moved. But in others walls will continue on for infinite or completely change location.
  10. Working on a workgroup referencing project with sheet and model file sizes of between 150 to 200 MB. One of the sheet files causes repeated crashes on one sheet. It's only the one sheet and resaving the file as a different name nets no new result. The same with duplicating the sheet. I also saved the file under a new name, removed all other sheets from the file and tried to make the "problem" sheet the active sheet. No success. Can we get a stable 64-bit software please?
  11. I have a renderworks section viewport that I am using as an elevation for a building presentation. When I enter the annotations layer to add some notes/dimensions all of the information beyond the cut line disappears. Any takers on cause/remedies?
  12. Or at the very least allow the walls to stay fit to the geometry you fit them too. If we fit walls to a roof, and then move the roof up or down, the walls should adjust accordingly.
  13. It would be nice if you could alter the 2d representation of 3d objects as well. Some sort of override to reshape how a wall and floor system might join.
  14. We're using the vectorworks white paper straight from NA on workgroup referencing for large projects. We have a wall section file for producing the wall sections sheets. We are trying to reference the section viewport tags into the floor plan production file as directed by the white paper. The file references in fine and we can see the tags in model space. The tags do not appear in the floor plan viewports however. Does anybody have any experience in this? Are we just trying to do too much with a limited software?
  15. We need a better way to create elevation views from the 3d models VW so nicely creates. Elevations at angles other than "front, right, rear, and left" are cumbersome to create via the Section Viewport tool.
  16. On a large scale project that we are working on, we have a file that compiles all of our layers to export DWGs to our consultants. When we export to the DWGs the components of the wall types we use loose their class information and all end up on the same layer in DWG file. If I export right from one of the other files, all the walls retain their relevant information. Is there some setting that I am missing?
  17. That's simple enough I guess. It makes it a little more difficult to match roof heights across multiple faces, but oh well. Thanks for the response.
  18. I'm trying to create a small shed roof over some windows by using the create roof face tool. I create the roof face just fine, with a square cut eave, but if I try to edit the shape of the roof face afterwards the eave cut changes to vertical. The OIP still shows that the roof face should have a square cut eave however.
  19. I've tackled this a number of ways in the past, depending on the level of modeling that you are doing. One way is to create the different wall types that you need and draw them right over top each other with the correct heights.
  20. It snaps to the right areas (i.e. endpoints, midpoint, etc.) when I am trying to snap. The issue is a bit like what Benson describes. For example: I have a SLVP and I am dimensioning in the annotations. The scale is set to 1/8" so for clarity I turn off the Wall-GWB & Wall-Sheathing classes and only have the Wall-Stud class on. However, when I go to snap to the endpoint of the wall, the endpoint of those components still shows up. Or if I have something like the plumbing fixtures or furniture turned off, the snapping points for those objects still "grab" the cursor if I'm near their points.
  21. Is there a work around to keep vectorworks from snapping to classes when they are turned off?
  22. It would be great if there were some way to edit a wall, floor or roof geometry in a section viewport only. For instance, if I have some sort of penetration through a wall that I wish to show in wall section, I draw a 2d rectangle over the wall to mask the areas I need to. It becomes slightly cumbersome when I then try to fill in some of the detail at this location with other symbols and 2d objects. I constantly have to check for the order things are layered (send to back/front, etc).
  23. Does anybody know if there is a way to tag only specific doors in certain views? I have an overall floor plan on which I wish to tag all of the unit entry doors and corridor doors, then on a large scale plan of the units, I want to tag all of the doors within the units. Only I don't want the unit entry door to have a tag in this viewport? Is this possible with vectorworks? Would I need to use classes for this?
