  1. Can someone tell me if it's possible to change the opacity of an object such as a plant symbol without changing the opacity of it's tag? I have the tag in a separate class, but whenever I change the opacity for the class the plant symbol is in, the tag changes as well. Also, they are both on the same layer... not sure if it's even possible to put them on different layers. Thanks...
  2. It would be great if there were a way to calculate the lengths of shown landscape area and polyline edges that effectively excludes the length of edges that are hidden. As a landscape architect, I typically need to show edging around portions of my landscape areas. Using the hide/show edge option, I can display only the edges I want to show and then call them out as edging on the plan. It would be great if the displayed edges of landscape areas could then be calculated to indicate the total linear feet of edging required in the project. Does anyone know of a work around for this or is there any way to avoid having to draw a separate polyline for the edging just to be able to calculate the total length?
  3. I am importing and checking the reference box. I cannot select the DWG components individually, they appear combined/grouped.
  4. I am referencing .dwg files in a drawing and maybe I just don't know what I'm doing (a distinct possibility) but my visibility tool can only affect the state of the layer a reference is on, not the state of the classes within that reference. To do that, I have to go to my "Classes..." button in the properties box and basically guess which linework is associated with the classes listed. Very tedious... I'm certain there are work-arounds, but I'm guessing none that will allow me to update the referenced file easily. Can the visibility tool be modified so that it can control the state of any line within a drawing, referenced or not? (Either that or can someone correct me?) Any feedback is appreciated!
  5. Thanks for the replies. I read something earlier about not working in the page area and how it might mess up the display of certain line types, hatches, and what not so I was a little concerned about that. Has that been the case for you at all, monkey? I do have Service Select, Ozzie. Do you by chance have a link for the pdf?
  6. I'm a bit lost on how to import CAD files and maintain the origin without having to "center after import." As a landscape architect, I'll typically be working with a survey, a civil plan, and an architectural plan, all referenced to the same location within a .dwg file. If I try to import all these files without centering they will usually be way off from the page area, but they will match up. If I "center after import", they go to the page area but don't match up plus I lose my original coordinates. So I guess I'm wondering how I can bring in those files, maintain the original coordinates from the .dwg files, and still end up working in the page area. (Most of my concern is that if I export my drawing to a consultant who is working in CAD I want it to match up precisely where it needs to be on their drawing.)
  7. Can you add extra leader lines to one callout without having to manually place them? AutoCAD calls these multi-leaders where you can add or subtract any number of leader lines you want.
  8. I'm new to Vectorworks Landmark 2014 and am just wondering how people handle references from other consultants in their projects. I'll be using .dwg files from architects and engineers in my drawings but can't figure out if it's best to import the entire file into my Vectorworks drawing or just reference them. Are there editing capabilities such as class visibility that are lost if they are only referenced? Also, because the referenced files from the architect and/or engineer will be updated as a project moves along, which method more easily updates the changes? I appreciate any comments...
