  3. morning I have been asked to build a model of an exhibition stand.....back in the days I used to do these with card and other materials....the old fashioned way!.....i was wondering if I build my model in vectorworks...it will have vehicles...trees furniture and other 3d entourage......can i export the file so i could have it 3d printed.....i have no experience in this field so any help or advice would be appreciated sorry one last thing the exhibit size will be modelled at 1:100 scale so this should fit on an A2 size paper......are their constraints on 3d printer outputs thanks all
  4. Yes......sometimes it's a calculated guess on dimensions.....not ideal but it can be done......
  5. hi just a quick question have you told your future employers that you have never designed in 3d !!!!!! or are you hoping to pick this up as you go......if you have told them see if they will put you on a 3day 1 to 1 course..this will not only be an advantage to you but your the company as you will start to earn them money a lot quicker than trying to pick this up looking at tutorials although i have to say the tutorials are very good...but nothing like sitting next to someone who knows the system one you know the basics the rest will come with time and sifting through the multitude of youtube videos and all the great guys who are on this forum a lot who go out there ways to help people like yourself like Kevin and Alan to name but a few i have watched the Sean O'Skea's tutorials and this guy has so much energy in the way he presents.... it's enjoyable to......
  6. Sorry reading your post again you may have had experience with other software and you may already be an experienced designer so please forgive me if I have misconstrued your request
  7. Hi I have been designing exhibitions for some 42 years if I can help or you get stuck just drop me a line and I'll do my best to help. Just remember your starting out in your new venture and as time goes on you will gain experience but don't be afraid to ask advice it's far better than struggling. Good luck. It's a great career
  8. yep your all correct this would not be a good solution.....
  9. I think i had this one a few months ago and i think i used the curved wall tool with a deform command curved wall.vwx
  10. So could a 12 month subscription for a licence be an option or not. Just a thought
  11. I think the cost goes up if you don't renew.....no idea by how much......and if vectorworks does have some fantastic upgrades that would help in 3D modelling I can always stump up the additional cash to get the upgrade at the end of September
  12. Well took the decision today not to renew my Vss been a hard decision to make but at the ripe old age of 64.....I don't think vw2018 could have offered me any more to my workflow.....I know it's difficult for a software company to disclose any any pre release titbits....I do think vectorworks should look at splitting the cost over a 12 month period for maybe the vss and indeed a new licence as the adobe setup.....maybe more companies would indeed use the upgrade system to there advantage cost.....it's been great fun being part of the forum but I don't know now if I will be able to participate now I am no longer a vss subscriber.......but if not I wish you all well and thanks again for all your help in the past.....cheers phil
  13. Hi After 9 years of being self employed I find the cost of the vss service to be fairly priced but still has to be paid from somewhere.....it comes out of my pocket.....with respect I don't have a price driven mentality I just have to budget my finances to make sure I stay in business....i think I have a right to ask vectorworks what I am going to receive before I hand over the cash......just a small amount of transparency may be the future ......
  14. Great comment pat and it's comments like these that sway my decision keep the subscription going.....
  15. pat totally understand your comments....the upgrade fees are not the problem....it's the usability of the 3d tools which are great but I am always looking for more, my work is on a professional level..... I have been using vw for the past 18 years and have always upgraded and to know there has always been sufficient improvements to warrant the fees.....all I ask from my suppliers is to let me have some idea of their plans or improvements so i the client can make a judgement for myself instead of waiting for the updated version only to be ecstatic or disappointed in my decision.......but i thank you for your valued advice so i am just on my way to the hardware store to upgrade my hammer to version 18.....
  16. so i have a week to make my mind up to renew....i really do want to but as a 3d modeler do we think.....as a group there will be significant changes in this area.....so as you can hear i am 50/50 to renew or not but as its a fair chunk of cash.....one minute it's yes and the next maybe......I guess the group will be guessing to......i wish I was a fly on the wall at vectorworks....
  17. the pat and jim show...prime time
  18. Well whatever they use this is clever stuff which people watching take for granted.....great work .....talented people
  19. I know this may be a way of the forum range but watching the golf from Augusta and looking at the renders and fly throughs of the holes just wondering what programs are being used .....really nice work
  20. totally agree it's like an artist....everyone has his/hers own style which i think is brilliant......
