i think this i has worked jim i created the 3 curved sections and then extruded a circle along a triangular path and then duplicated it on a circular array.....i use truss a lot but i don't really want to splash out on spotlight just for this tool....can we have it architect jim ?

this is the model so far...

i am working on a project at the moment and trying to create this curved truss, the main curved tubes are no problem i have use the extrude along a path but i'm at a loss how to create the cross sections that join all the 3 tubes together.....any ideas?

Thanks Jim would save a great of time turning of layers and classes.

just one more thing does the section viewport command work on a top plan view i am in an iso view and have cut away a top floor to reveal the ground floor but it does not seem to work all the side section cuts do but not the top plan view

patrick it works when you touch the edge of the edge and then it highlights and allows the command when i right click.... i was trying to highlight the face in the middle of the section area that i wanted to use although in the video tutorial this is not made quite clear but thanks this is great asset to my work cheers jim thanks 2014 was what i have been using

i have just watched the video from vectorworks regarding the above when i right click on the selected face of the clip cube it does not give me the option to save as a section viewport on the menu.....do i have to do something else.....MT

Just installed the new service pack seems to have resolved the problem I had with the undo's that I had some months ago. Fingers crossed

Thanks for the advice Jim but I have to say you have a. Floor in your software so with respect I should not have to contact my tech support for such a problem i pay for a program that I expect to work I have used vw for 16 years and I know my way around ......... All I want is for the undo command to work as I see it a simple operation of the software. I won't bother you any more I will be cancelling my service select contract forthwith and will look for a software program that delivers. VW 14 thanks but no thanks

hi jim no i haven't contacted my tech support in the uk as they don't write the programs just sell them, so i didn't go down that avenue.....i may do a reinstall of the program to see if that works.....but thanks for the advice phil

So my quest continues to find an answer to the problem as I have not received an answer do I take it vectoworks can't be bothered, never mind I'll continue to use v13 and delete v14 as it's no use to me.....it's something I just can't undo

There seems to be a problem with this undo command but can we please have a solution, although I have v14 I don't use it I need this undo command to work every time i am paying my cash for a program that fails to deliver what it says on the tin and until I feel confident that the undo command will work I refuse to use V14 come on vectorworks sort it out or as least respond and give me some kind of reassurance you are looking to sort this.....

i need to model the platform so a structure will lit on top but i want to show the slopes of the site on an elevation as you can see from the visuals i have extruded a block to 2m and them another one angled on 2 planes and made a solid subtraction its works up to a point but its more luck than accuracy

i have a section of ground that has a platform 25m x 20m with 4 differing levels in the top left hand corner from floor level its 610mm below in the top right hand corner its 2m below floor level in the bottom right hand corner its 1m below floor level and in the bottom left hand corner its level any ideas please basically the site slopes in 2 different plains !!!!

i think you may have to pull the handles on the text box to make the text appear correctly

i had 12.5 when i upgraded to 10.5 as a software upgrade all the measurement bars on screen went haywire i would not recommend 12.5 running on anything later than 10.4 from my personal experience in fact i had to purchase an old quad tower mac and reinstall it to run correctly HTH phil

Thanks for the advice so am I right in saying that if you override the classes it's if you change the scale of the viewport other than created in the design layer as I know when I set my pen thickenesses at source its because I know how I want the drawing to appear when printed.... Say my design layer is created at 1:20 and my viewport is set to 1:10 if I don't override the settings will my line weights be half the width.

Thanks Peter I didn't check what plane the dims area on and I'm rendering hidden line

when modelling i set different classes to different pen widths, when i go into a viewport do these pen widths associate themselves with the viewports or do i have to go in to the settings and adjust these accordingly, in the advanced viewport properties,what is the line width of the default line weight scale of 1 ?

hi peter i didn't know you could dimension a model and then it shows up on all viewports which will be great for me so i tried it on my model but when updating the viewport the dimensions that i added to the model didn't show up on the viewports. i must be doing something wrong but i am on the correct layer when adding the dimensions also i guess you have to go to the front elevation to dimension for it to show up on the front elevation in the viewport at the moment i dimension and add notes by using annotations

i have to add i look at all the tutorials, but all you guys out there who help me improve and learn are just fantastic....
