  1. Please can we have more flexibility in what information the Door/window ID tags can display. Specifically I would like to enter data for the door's fire rating and have this information show up on my floor plans [for building control sign off in the UK] and also be able to schedule it in a worksheet. Can we edit the tag more like the spaces tags please?
  2. Thanks for submitting it Jim. I appreciate that it's probably a bit of a faff. If the whole layer/storey/level is getting lots of attention can I request that sections and elevations are located somewhere else and not within the storey/layer system? This was obviously fine when everyone worked in 2D but I don't really think it cuts it these days with 3D workflows. I also hate the fact that I can't have my 3D view in a separate window. Instead spending loads of time turning layers on and off when I want to switch between 3D and 2D views [i know I could use saved views but it's not that intuitive]. Rant over!
  3. Thanks Vincent. Let's hope there are some improvements in VWs 2016!
  4. Hi All Just wondering if it's possible to edit the standard door ID tag so that it automatically displays some information from the Data tab. Specifically I would like to enter data for the door's fire rating and have this information show up on my floor plans [for building control sign off] and also be able to schedule it in a worksheet. Can I edit the tag like I can the spaces tags? Thanks in advance!
  5. I think it would be really useful to be able to display a single object on multiple layers/storeys. For example: - Columns in double height spaces. - Curtain walling - particularly using the new curtain walling tool for 2015. I know this is possible on ArchiCad just by ticking a box but is there something similar that I can do in VWs? Thanks in advance.
  6. Anyone? Or should I move this to the wishlist/requests board?
  7. Hi All I was wondering if it was possible to display a single object on multiple layers/storeys. For example: - Columns in double height spaces. - Curtain walling I know this is possible on ArchiCad just by ticking a box but is there something similar that I can do in VWs? Thanks in advance.
  8. So I've got the hang of the framing member tool. Which is great for beams and cranked beams but I now need to connect some columns for these cranked beams. Is there a way to specify a bevel and/or mitre to the top of a steel section column? There doesn't seem to be an option in either the column tool or wide flange - 3D tool. Can anyone help?
  9. Hi All I'm beginning to make better use of associative dimensioning and it seems like a great tool. The only issue I seem to be having is that when I use the move selection command to move a wall [Apple-M] the dimension dissociates itself with the wall. However if I just drag the wall or use the move by points tool the dimension stays associated. I tend to use the move selection tool a lot so it would be great if there was a way to solve this problem. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance!
  10. Although it would be useful if these features were included in the individual steel section tools as standard too. It's not very obvious to newer [and even some older] users [in our office anyway] that these features can be accessed in another toolset. Why the duplication?
  11. Thanks Mike. That does seem to be what I'm after. I'll have a play around with that.
  12. It would also be very useful to be able to set the z value of beams to top of steel rather than the centre axis of the beam. This would make coordinating with structural engineer information much much simpler as well as changing the size of a beam as a project develops. Again, this has been a pretty standard function of your competitors for quite a while now!
  13. It would be very useful to be able to draw steel beams/sections directly into the plan view rather than having to draw a column and then rotate it in side view. Having the ability to change the angle/incline of steel sections in the object info palette would also be pretty useful when drawing cranked columns and roof structures. This has been a pretty standard function in other 3D CAD tools I've had the pleasure to use for quite a while now.
  14. Thanks for confirming that it's not possible.
  15. I agree with this! Can't believe how clunky Vectorworks is with roof/slabs and interfaces with walls.
  16. Thanks Michael but surely there should be a check box or simple tool to just remove the constraints without having to mess around with additional polygons etc?
  17. Hi I have drawn some walls which I then trimmed to the underside of a roof object using the 'fit walls to objects' command. I no longer want the walls to be trimmed to the underside of the roof so how do I remove this without having to redraw the walls? The VWs manual and google have not helped so I was hoping someone on here would be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
  18. I assume the answer to this is probably no but.... Is it possible to set the default class which the section viewport command assigns the section plane attributes to? As a default this is set to the 'Section Style' class but this doesn't comply with the British Standard class names we have recently adopted in our office. I can change it in advance section properties/attributes but it would be handy if this was done as a default instead. Thanks in advance!
  19. Great work on improvements to the publish function in 2015. Particularly being able to choose whether you want a new folder to be created or not and doing away with the publish report. HOWEVER, please can you reinstate the ability to publish individual pdfs as separate files? This is very useful as it means I don't have to manually enter the sheet view name and number every time I publish an individual pdf. This feature was available in VWs 2014 but is now greyed unless you publish more than one pdf. Sometimes I only have one sheet layer in a VWs file or I only want to publish one pdf from a larger set. It's quite annoying it's been removed.
  20. I think I've managed to figure this out. If you create a window that sits next to a wall but not within the wall you can the use a custom end wall cap tool to make the reveal you're after. You then need to make a symbol containing the wall end cap, a small section of the wall and the window. You can then apply the symbol to a window contained within a wall. I'd be interested to know if anyone has used this method before? How stable is it? My test file can be found here if anyone is interested: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17200339/Window%20Tests.vwx
  21. Here's the screenshot: It's not that I have a lot of different end caps. It's that I've got a lot of the same end cap to put into the drawing. The design I'm working on has a number of framed elements which we are building using three different wall thicknesses [Hopefully you can see from the attached screenshot]. We may not draw all the different junctions in the GA plans but at the very least we'd like to draw the ones I have already experimented with in this image. A duplicate wall end tool would really help with this!
  22. Hi I was just wondering if it was possible to apply an interior [or exterior] window/wall detail to only one side of the window. I have a section of one wall type which sits next to another wall type. The window is placed in one wall and I was hoping to use the interior wall detail on one side of the window and a custom wall end cap on the other. Thanks in advance!
