  1. Hi All The energos section of the window tool is asking me to input the R-Value of a window. We typically specify the U-value of the window which I believe is the norm in the UK. Is there a way to change the standards that we enter into window objects so that I can enter the U-value and schedule this out in worksheets? Thanks in advance!
  2. + 1 for all of the above. Also the ability to turn off windows/doors in walls through the class menu and see a solid wall rather than a gap.
  3. Windoor looks perfect! Would solve a lot of other issues we have too. I will request...
  4. Hi All Is there a way to turn off windows so that they don't display in a viewport? I know I can turn the class off but this leaves a gap in the wall. Ideally we want to turn them off and see a solid wall instead. This would be for use at feasibility stage so we don't show too much information to the client. Thanks in advance! Alan
  5. +1 for this. It could work for external doors/windows as a starter as VWs already knows which side is in and which is out. Handing is always from the exterior for exterior windows/doors. Agree it's trickier inside but not impossible.
  6. I'm pretty sure when I used to use ArchiCad Team Working you could check out either layers or classes but not both. It seemed to work fine and gave a bit more flexibility in how tasks could be divided. It just needs good communication across the team!
  7. Great. I'd definitely like to request class based check out be included please!
  8. Also, can Vectorworks Cloud Services be set up to automatically publish IFC files to dropbox [or similar]? This would be really helpful for collaborating with other consultants in a BIM environment...
  9. Hi All I think I know the answer to this but I wanted to double check my understanding of Vectorworks Cloud Services is correct as it's not very clear to me. From my reading Vectorworks Cloud Services can be used for rendering and publishing sheet files and syncing these with nomad. You can also use it for viewing pdfs and dwg remotely via a web browser. So am I correct in thinking that it's basically dropbox with the ability to automatically publish pdfs of all your sheet files? We therefore couldn't use it to share a Vectorworks Shared Project with users in other geographical locations as it's a 'delayed update file sharing service'? [https://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=211157#Post211157] Is this correct or have I misread the FAQs?
  10. Project sharing is a big step forward but are there any plans to be able to check out individual classes? This would allow 1 team member to work on all the ceilings with a multi-storey building whilst another team member works on the small power layouts for example.
  11. Can this issue be raised with the appropriate people via the forum or do I need to send this to the UK support people first?
  12. Hi All I'm having a play around with the new 2016 features on a very simple test building. All going well until I try the span wall tool. For some reason as soon as I applied it to a window within one of my walls it clipped the top of the wall to window sill level. Even though my walls are associated with my roof object and set to clip to that. I attach a screenshot and test file. Any thoughts on what I've done wrong? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/17200339/VWs%202016%20Test%20Building.vwx
  13. Thanks Jim. I appreciate this is just my opinion so I understand if there's clear reasons why it needs to be a menu item. Just playing around with the tool now and it seems way better than 2015. There's still a few things that could be improved though. Could the "create roof" and "roof face" be merged into a single tool for example? Why are there two different tools?
  14. It'd be nice if create roof was a tool rather than a menu item. It should be possible to select the tool, draw the shape of the roof and the pitch line [not sure if this is the correct term] and create the roof all in the same action. As I said it would easier to ask new starters to draw a roof all in one tool rather than having to draw a shape, find the menu command and then draw the pitch line. There's slab tool but not a roof tool and they're essentially the same thing?
  15. With all the improvements to the roof tool in VWs 2016 I would have expected an icon to be included that I could place in the toolsets. Am I missing something or is there a reason why there's no icon? It'd be nice to click on the roof tool, draw the shape of my roof and the pitch line [or whatever it's called] and create the roof. Rather than having to draw a rectangle first and then fine the tool in a menu. New-starters get quite confused when I ask them to draw a roof using the roof tool and instinctively look there...
  16. Please, please, please can VWs be tweaked so that the publish dialogue box is hidden behind other applications when VWs is publishing drawings in Mac. At the moment it floats over other applications [even following you if you switch to another desktop] as shown in the attached screenshot. It'd be nice to be able to check emails or get on with some other work whilst files are publishing in the background!
  17. We found that setting up our wall styles correctly to avoid duplicated lines has helped a lot. When you add a wall component it automatically adds lines to both sides of it, even if the component next to it also has lines on either side. We now only show a line on the left side of each component, unless it is structural and we would want to show it on its own.
  18. There's far too much unnecessary clicking for the space tool in my opinion. Why a separate eyedropper tool for starters?
  19. Hi Wes Thanks for that, that's quite a good solution whilst retaining the functionality of top/plan mode. It would however be really nice if there was a quick option I could select [similar to ArchiCad's] which could allow me to control the cut plane for all objects. I guess I'll need to add that to wish list requests...
  20. Hi Paul. Not sure if there's a VW's compatible template yet but NBS have taken over the development of Uniclass 2. https://toolkit.thenbs.com/articles/classification#classificationtables You can download the current classification tables in excel format from that link I think.
  21. We've not tried to set up a Uniclass 2 template yet but as far as I'm aware the underscores do matter. I'm sure you're aware that hierarchical display can be turned off to make navigating the classes a bit more manageable? Be interested to hear how everyone gets on with their uniclass 2 templates!
  22. That's definitely one way round it Tim. Or we could use a slab as a capping stone perhaps?
