  1. Hi All I've used the wall type schedule with components worksheet built into VWs to create a similar wall schedule as the files referenced here don't seem to exist anymore. A couple of questions: In the past [although it's been about 5 years since I last used worksheets properly] I think I've used the "summarise items" tick box to only show one instance of each wall but this means I can't see the components of the wall listed individually. Is there a way to just see one instance of each wall type/style and still list the components? Or have people got around this by creating a separate layer with each wall style drawn on it indivudually? How do I show a small extract of each wall as per the example above? Can you specify how large an image you see with the image function? Or, again, has this been achieved by having a small section each wall style drawn on a separate layer? Any help would be much appreciated!
  2. Being able to rotate the clip cube and still cut a plan section is an important feature for me so I don't think it's working as it should. I'll rebuild the preferences. It's very frustrating that every new release there is some feature or other than doesn't work and means I have to rebuild my preferences. Surely this makes the migration manager a bit pointless? Thanks for everyone's help.
  3. So I'm guessing I should reset my preferences following these instructions? https://forum.vectorworks.net/index.php?/articles.html/articles/troubleshooting/resetting-vectorworks-preferences-r264/
  4. My preferences are migrated. I've just reset the clipcube and it's working again - see screenshot:
  5. Thanks Jim. That's resolved one thing at least! As I've said above it seems to be rotating the clip cube that stops me being able to cut a section viewport from the clip cube. Any ideas?
  6. It seems to not work when I rotate the clip cube from 0 degrees using the drag handles at its base [see attached screenshot]. It was working on my office computer but as soon as I rotated the clip cube to match the orientation of my plan the option to cut a plan section viewport has disappeared. I've got no idea how to reset the clip cube to it's original orientation. Any ideas?
  7. Gadzooks, I thought that might be why but I can't even see my signature in the new forum layout. This is all I can see of my post and it's the same for your profile too: Any idea where it is and how I change it? The edit profile page doesn't seem to include anywhere where I can change it!
  8. I've just checked it on my office computer [I was previously working on this at home] and it seems like I now have the option to cut a plan section viewport from a clip cube. Any ideas of why I can't see this option on my home computer?
  9. Hi Wes Thanks for the replies but I'm using VWs 2018 so it should be an option. Any thoughts on where this feature has gone? Thanks
  10. Hi All I'm trying to take a plan from a clip cube. The VWs helps says all I need to do is right click on the top face of the clip cube and select create section viewport from the context menu [See first screenshot]. Unfortunately when I right click on the top or bottom face I do not have the option to create a section viewport [see second screenshot]. I only have this option when I click on one of the sides. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance! And a screenshot of when I click on the sides.
  11. Hi All Loving the improvements to title blocks in 2018. I especially love the ability to add revisions to the exported file names automatically. I have two questions/comments though: How do I remove or edit a custom name from the predefined list [see attached screenshot]. I've added a few custom names whilst testing this out that I now don't want to stay in my list. Can we have more options for the data fields it can pull into the custom name? Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to all any field in the title block to be inserted into the file name? Thanks in advance for your help.
  12. We've been adding a custom line type as a component to the wall. This has been working pretty well and means it updates if you change the wall type. It doesn't work so well in section though.
  13. Hi All Does anyone know how to import a texture downloaded from BIMObject.com into VWs to use as a renderworks texture? It's a .adsklib which I think is a Revit format? Thanks in advance.
  14. Jim, has anything been done about including Retaining Walls in the Architect version of VWs? I'm on 2017 and can find any menu commands. It's crazy I can create a site model and add site modifiers but a retaining wall isn't one of these! Thanks in advance.
  15. Does anyone know how to set up corner windows so they work in walls of different widths? I'm also struggling to get them to join properly with different offsets within the wall too. The example below shows a wall 315mm thick with 0mm window offset on the right. On the bottom I have a window in in a 230mm thick wall which I want to offset so it sits on the bottom face of the wall. Any idea if how I can do this and still get the corner windows to join properly? Thanks in advance.
  16. I know Panter Hudspith are starting to use it but that's about it.
  17. We typically would use a field in the data section of the OIP. I think there might be one for location.
  18. Zoomer, I could use the window tool [and I have done in the past] but it doesn't feel very BIM. Windows also schedule differently to doors into worksheets [a window has a sill whereas a door has a threshold for example]. Fingers crossed for some improvements!
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong but there doesn't seem to be a way of drawing a sliding door that meets in the corner [similar to the corner window tool] using the door tool. Please can this be added at some point? Or am I missing something? Thanks!
  20. We really, really need improvements to way roofs join to other roofs or slabs so that these display correctly in section views. We typically do lots of roof top extensions which normally require a roof with 2 or 3 different pitches as per the attached image. It's currently taking us a massive amount of time to get these to join correctly in section view when we take a cut from the 3D model. Even then we're left with junctions that require additional 2D work to rectify. This is even without us showing all the individual components. We really need 2 or more roofs of different angles on the same "slope" to be able to join together so that the structure, finishes etc. can be run continuously. If roofs could interact with each other similar to how walls interact with roofs then it would save us a tonne of time and give us a more realistic output to boot. As you can see from the attached image we're left with pinch points at the junctions which don't reflect how this would actually be built. Thanks in advance.
  21. Is there a way to convert a window you have created to a window style [similarly with a door]? The only way I seem to be able to create a new window style is by duplicating a window style from the resource browser unless I'm missing something. As I'm still getting used to using window and door styles I often forget to set up a new style first and often want to turn a window I have already created into a window style to use across a project. Is there any way around this? Thanks!
  22. Please can a feature be added to allow storey levels to be automatically updated between references? Working on larger projects here in the UK we typically model the building in one file and then reference this into different sheet files [typically 1 plan file, 1 section file, 1 elevation file and a details file]. We then use the 3D model to generate 2D live information [other than details] in these files. The problem we have is that if we have to change a storey level in the model file it is a laborious process to update our sheet files with this update. Sometimes it doesn't get picked up either and we have sections or elevations that do not display the correct height information. Surely there can be a setting, like "automatically update class definitions" to automatically update the storey heights across a range of referenced files. Just to pre-empt a point: yes we could use project sharing to have EVERYTHING in the one file. However there a couple of reasons why we don't: This doesn't comply with the UK's BIM protocol and drawing standards for VWs. We find that the files get very large and unwieldy when there are lots of drawing sheets in them. We need to place section cuts on a design layer as we trace over these in 2D for details. This would cause issues if we needed to export information to 3rd parties using IFC. We have found a few bugs/glitches [potentially self-inflicted] with the way project sharing works. We therefore aim to avoid setting up project sharing files unless absolutely necessary. Thanks in advance.
