  1. Hi All

Im having a lot of issues trying to recreate this kind of shape using the Extrude Along Path Command:

    Screen.jpg.7921003515759f089e248e7635c2e279.jpg

I first start by creating NURBS curves for profile and path. Profile on the left, path on the right. I start by creating polylines, then convert to NURBS:

I then select both NURBS curves and select the Extrude Along Path command, but this normally fails:

I try to rotate the path NURBS curve so that it resembles the shape I want but this fails too.

Please let me know what Im doing worng, or if theres is a better way to do this.

    Cheers in advance.

  2. Hi @Mark Aceto I have the automatic classing select as you suggest but Im wanting to update the sub-classes of the truss in order to conform with my own classes. For example, the default class assignments for truss objects are:

This is how I like my truss sub-classes to be assigned:

  3. Hi All

Im experiencing an issue when I insert truss objects when I switch between Top/Plan view an Isometric view when inserting the truss. This happened in a blank template and using truss symbols from the Vectorworks libraries.

I first insert an F34 3m truss section in the Top/Plan view and it shows as expected:

    Screenshot2023-10-13203007.thumb.png.4c2836af6787587d5f4755cd5f0d23a9.png

Then I switch to an isometric view to continue inserting the truss:

    Screenshot2023-10-13203051.thumb.png.9ff3f5b39793d40d6114df93fb17afbe.png

Then I switch back to the Top/Plan view and the truss inserted in an isometric view only shows as a 3D symbol:

    Screenshot2023-10-13203200.thumb.png.49808806bd514afbacece5e9c44ee855.png

When I add more truss symbols in the Top/Plan view, I get a mix of 2D and 3D symbols:

    Screenshot2023-10-13203618.thumb.png.a56bed5a035d44e39c1c6f33f5f3e894.png

The obvious work-around is to select Draw 3D Only in the OIP and this shows everything as a 3D symbol but this means I cant show the truss labels. It seems that something is horribly broken with the truss tool.

    Cheers

  4. Is it possible to run a script to re-assign classes in a hybrid symbol? What I would love to do is re-class truss and lighting symbols in spotlight so that they conform to my class structure. Im having to do this manually at the moment and it gets tedious very quickly when having to do a new series of truss, for example. Of course, once I do this - I save all re-classed symbols into a favourites file.

  5. Hi All

Is there a quick way to re-assign the classes of newly-imported symbols? Im thinking that there might be a script that can do this - although its something Ive never done.

For symbols that I use often, I save them in a favourites file with everything re-classed. This gets a little tedious when I need to use a new type of truss at various lengths, and having to manually re-class everything.

It is mostly truss and lighting symbols in Spotlight that I would like to re-class.

Do this in batches would save me a lot of time, if possible.

    Cheers in advance.

  6. Hi all

Is there a way to show focus lines as per the attached pic as a function of Spotlight - or has someone just manually drawn lines between lighting symbol and focus point?

The attached pic is from the latest VW planet vectorworks email.

    Cheers

  7. Hi All

Im after a good and relatively cheap resource for realistic greenery symbols. I dont need them enough to require Landscape, but I do need them when doing renders for events. I regularly use what come free with VW but I often need more.

I tried downloading a couple from free3D (not actually free) but I had issues with the OBJ import (couldn't locate the texture or MTL file, despite them being in the same folder) and the 3DS import just gave me blocks of geometry that looked nothing like a plant.

Im at the stage where I would be happy to pay for something that works - but ideally not hundreds. Would appreciate some suggestions.

    Cheers

Food-for-thought if you want the Class structure saved in your Template:  Place an instance of the PIO in-question, change the defaults to suit your wants and get the Class structure in the Parts Classes dialog set the way you want it.  Click "OK" an let the PIO generate the Classes.  Delete the PIO instance.  Re-save your Template.  The PIO settings will be saved in a hidden Record and the Classes will be added to your Template structure.

    All makes sense, cheers

In the "Parts Classes..." dialog, you have 2 options:  1)  You can set each part Class individually using the pop-up menus - or - 2) You can click the "Assign Default Classes with Prefix," which will set up a default Class structure for you.

    Thank you @C. Andrew Dunning

Adding that you would either manually create these classes in the new empty template file or import them. Think that's where you're going with that, right? You want to open your template file, and already see those classes in there?

    Yes, thats right

To further template that workflow, save your plugin objects as red symbols with those parts classes assigned. That way, when you drag those red symbols (plug in objects) from the RM onto the design layer, you won't have to reassign them.

Hi @Lunar Waneshaft I like your thinking here but how do you save plug-in objects as red symbols?

As for the symbols themselves, I think you meant plug in objects, right? Not symbols? If you did mean symbols, you would have to save them to your personal library and then edit the symbol definition of each...

Yes, I meant plug-in objects. Im about go thru my personal library and re-class all my symbols. Cheers

  10. Hi All

Ive recently stumbled across the Spotlight (UK metric) template and this has inspired me to give my own template file a thorough make-over. One thing I cant figure out is how parts classes are assigned before I insert an audio or video object. For example, if I insert a projector & screen from the spotlight toolset, if I select the projector and select the Parts Classes button in the OIP, all the parts are pre-assigned to existing classes. My question is - where in VW can I pre-assign these classes before I insert any symbols into my drawing?

    Cheers

  11. Hi all

Ive been working on a site plan that requires marquees on a graded (sloped) surface. I originally built the plan on a flat ground as the grade wasnt known. Ive know been given some dimensions for the site grade and Im wanting to know if there is a way to show all site objects (marquees, seating, etc) correctly placed on the site - that is in the correct 3D rotation. I know that I generally need to delete any 2D geometry in hybrid symbols to get the to rotate freely - but thought I would ask before I replace all my symbols, walls, roof, etc with just 3D geometry.

    Cheers
