  1. If you're busy you just get a lot of clutter with meaningless xxx names - unless you force a little discipline Naming means you can easily assign new content to VPs.
  2. When I'm doing plant orders I like to colour cells once I know an order is complete for that particular plant. I do everything in worksheets as have never found the plant database thing useful to how I work. Doing this manually is tedious: 1 select cell 2 right click 3 format 4 select format tab 5 dropdown 6 solid 7 Select colour 8 Ok I do not yet work with Marionette but have seen a few work nodes that mention colouring worksheet cells, but haven't found anything like this.
  3. Hi Dom, I noticed you uploaded this in 2018 and was hoping it was a 2018 version which I'm running, but apparently not as won't load, I don't know how mnany, if any of these would survive a save back to 2018 but would very much like to see - would you be able to save back to 2018?
  4. I'll happily remain a small minority but a drawing with mixed layer scales seems and has potential to be very confusing.
  5. Do everything in modelspace @ 1:1, and make viewports at 1:whateverscale to page/sheet space. In using various CAD's since 1999 for everything from signage to spaces 100km across I have never needed to do designspace work at scales other than 1:1 idk why VW allows different designspace layer scales, but I think it's a legacy from when it lacked page/sheetspace.
  6. Quite a few sources in the UK, but not as good as many offshore like here in NZ, but still some useful data https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/data-downloads/ - useful if you've a historic site, or abut one. OS have some free data - but sometimes a trawl to find it https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/business-government/tools-support/gis/what-is-gis Also if people know your county, and UK nation can help us to help you as diffrent jurisdictions are freer, or less so, with their data. Crown Estate free data - again pron. more useful for abuttals https://www.thecrownestate.co.uk/en-gb/resources/maps-and-gis-data/ unless the King wants you for a cloister! This finds some useful stuff, using google: site:.ac.uk "gis data"|"free data"|"opendata"
  7. Just drawing up a very irreguilar, undocumented house, and idly put a -Distance into the OI box, I didn't know this was possible - not a game change but undocumented as far I was concerned, not at all equal to Acad's version but better than nothing
  8. Windows user here, I had also tried for years, including specialist IT help, wasted a ton of time and have never been able to get this to run, on varieety of systems and three successive VW versions.
  9. I've seen this problem across three versions of VW now, I'll add a superscript and when I reopen the file it will have changed to a square root sign This happens in text blocks worksheets Navigation dialogue Very annoying, looks very unprofessional if gets published, and makes no sense to reader. It doesn't happen on every file and is occasional. Very annoying as ² is succinct, meaningful, and saves space in labels and worksheet lines. I have seen this bug across threee windows versions, and three VW versions. Is there a solution? Does it occur in versions post 2018? system is Windows10_64 VW2018 SP6
  10. Something that disables older VW versions is having the wrong Quicktime version (at least that was my experience). I was using VW2008 untill recently and had a note on my system to ensure Quicktime did not update - the version that woked for me was - 7.69.80.9
  11. Thank you E|FA, I don't (yet) run a GPU (I'll have to bear that in mind) - I'm really interested in this as I can park all the VW clutter on the other screen and have a large drawing space, same as I get in Sketchup and QGIS.
  12. I've just recently found the view/tool: View > Multiple view panes > Create Floating View Pane Justifiably wary of trying new things in VW (as many are counterintuitive, or not fit for purpose) but are there any bugs with this tool? Is editing and saves normal? Any other oddments anyone has found? windows64 Win10 VW2018 SP6
  13. Thanks, all I could find to do that was this, and it lacks an absolute OFF - very hard to find this sort of thing in VW - could find nothing in HELP for location of this setting.
  14. How do I not see 'Do you want to manually locate the broken reference?' when I open a file? If I want to search for It I will, but 99% of time not relevant to the task at hand.
  15. Thanks Jeff, that did the trick and nice contours come out the other end - but it's cumbersome - is it more streamlined in later versions?
  16. Impressive modelling Jeff, is that an app that works on Android as well?
  17. I've done something like this in the past(but this exactly). 1. convert the .pdf to eps e.g. with Adobe Acrobat or http://www.calvina.de/pstoedit/ - pstoedit says it can now do this direct. 2. convert .eps to .dxf with ghostscript/gsview with the pstoedit plugin (http://www.pstoedit.net/pstoedit) VW's mangling of text makes it near useless unless file very basic. Considering that VW signed an MOU with Adobe several years ago I expected something meaningful would havecome out by now including this.
  18. I have a very simple site model - made from 3D loci. I'm trying to export the resulting contours from the site model as 3D. But result is always 2D - hopefully there is a method. I have tried just exporting the site model and have tried via Edit Existing Site Model COntours and selected and exported - but same 2D result. Using VW2018 on Windows.
  19. When I do this I have a sheet layer name starting as 0 meta (so it stays on top, meta standing for about), put eveything into one class, drop items into sheet and lock them.
  20. It's one indication (altho' should not be used alone) of clients who tend to scope creep ime. Unless you have a 'name' (and even when you do) you often have to give a bit away to secure the job (so be careful which bit), but if they're really pushy it's time to walk away. Doing the latter gracefully means it's worthwhile having a strategy in mind at the start just in case this happens.
  21. Just a sensibly-named folder structure on Windows + Everything (for filename search) + Agent Ransack (for file content search) - both have regex options. So methodology is: Sort just enough, Search - always find what I want near instantly. One thing that really works for me is assigning a random code to a key-worded .txt file like so; management sociopath OR psychopath s__Dsm6B1a2.txt then writing general topic info, links etc into the file, and coding related files with Author Date Title_Precis any salient info and search code: Brooks 2019 Management psychopath 20 percent s__Dsm6B1a2.pdf ^ has saved me a ton of time Have played with organising everything by site type, but that was too narrow. I design landscapes and get bored sticking to one type so content is very diverse, and frankly takes too long to be worthwhile with the above methods.
  22. Be aware that VW does not crop image/raster at the VP line, if I have an image much larger than VP I tile it and put each image in its own class. I try and limit pages with images on them. Avoid large areas of hatch (as VW is VERY inneficient with that), ditto for stipples. With image pages I export image at A3 page size and 300dpi (as per settings in image export), and reimport to a non-print A3-size polygon frame in model space and then send that to a VP, tedious but I get small pages with high definition and true to scale thatt load quickly as pdf on client machines. Occasionally I use pdf995 but find this is less needed with 2018 compared to older versions. I'm using 2018, so ymmv.
  23. Hard to understand what you are doing, notmally one models in model space, and then make a viewport to the sheet layer. Sounds like you are bring data into the sheet space. Don't make VW references too complicated or pain will be the only outcome.
  24. Hi Jens, I find I get a cleaner import by saving/ from linz as .shp and drag that into VW. Sometime I clean them up in QGIS first, or make contours etc. I normally DL as: NZGD2000 / New Zealand Transverse Mercator 2000 (EPSG:2193) It sounds like you have a different coordinate system in your download compared with your file coordinates. This is made far worse in NZ as there are so many cordinate systems compared with anywhere else on the planet of a similar size.
