  1. Tom. Quadruple checked and went line by line. All design layers are on the same scale 1:96 . Its been acting this way ever since I transitioned to 2017. So yes, multiple restarts and it also acts the same way on my home computer.
  2. Thanks for your help benboggs. I turned "All Layers" on because it was off but it did not make any difference. I just tried making a new document to see if this happens their and everything seems to works as its suppose to (No Jumping). If I turn on "Centre on Objects after view change" it jumps like it does in my document. I'm guessing there is something that happened in the transitioning of this file from a 2016 file that makes it ignore the "Centre of Objects after view change" preference. Its a very large snd complex file so there is no starting from scratch and I still have about a year of work on it so hopefully I find a solution to it.
  3. Just double checked to make sure. All layers 1:96. Oh and I have to change my signature. This is happening on VW17. I did not have this issue in VW16.
  4. I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I'm just going crazy. Every time I select a new design layer my screen jumps to another location. (I'm assuming Origin Centre). This is really annoying as I am constantly having to search and go back to the point I was working. I know some people like this but I hate it with a passion. I assumed this is what the "Centre on Object after View Change" in the preference was for but it doesn't change anything for me regardless how I have it set. The only way I can stop it from jumping is to turn off unified view but I want unified view to be on. Is this a bug or am I missing how to get this to behave how it use to?
  5. IFinally had a chance to test some things out. I removed VW2017 from the control panels app list. If I use the default "Any application" settings, it appears to behave properly but as soon as I add VW 2017 with the "Add Application" menu, I immediately get the jump to top menu even though its a fresh clean start with default settings.. Very strange... Does anybody know if there are some settings hidden away somewhere in VW that control some sort of auto view switch setting that I may have on? I kind of remember reading about such a setting but can't find it anywhere.
  6. Thanks zoomer. I tried your settings and advice but for some reason I can’t get it to stop switching to top view. I went back to 2016 and like you said it works a lot different in there. It actually works as expected. I’m going to try deleting my 2017 profile and start again to see if that makes a difference. If you are not experiencing it with your enterprise, there must be something wrong on my end somewhere.
  7. I had a chance to try a few more things. There is definitely something wrong here. My guess is that Enterprise behaves differently then the others and requires some different programming on Vectorworks end. My Enterprise is brand new and has only been installed while on VW2017 (no previous installs or migration). My Platform is OS X 10.1..6. There were no previous config files installed, in fact I can’t even find any config files to install. The latest drivers which I had to download from their site has no predefined configs for Vectorworks at all. In order to get the buttons working, I had to add the vectorworks App in the 3D Connexion App manually and set everything up myself. Some of the basic buttons like the modifier keys and the view keys did work without my input but nothing else was attached to any button. There is no button that toggles between walkthrough and flyover and no button that opens up any config menu. There is only one button called “menu” that cycles through modes that show up in the error info location in the bottom right corner. These modes are “Using 2D Navigation, Using Target Camera Mode Navigation, and Using Object Mode Navigation” Although each of these modes acts a little differently, they all select the flyover tool. I would be even okay with this, but as I mentioned even brushing against the navigator resets the view making me completely disoriented. By using the mouse to zoom out, I was able to find my model and understand what its doing. Basically no matter what view I start with (eg. right isometric) as soon as i slightly touch the navigator no matter which direction, it automatically switches to top view and moves me about 4 model width away in one direction. If I start off in top view, everything works as expected. So, from the looks of it, until Enterprise is supported, this navigator thing is a no go for me. When they do implement it, i’m hoping that they do “change the underpin mechanism of how it redraws interactive frame”. I’m actually surprised that everyone using these things hasn’t already mentioned that they can’t use their mouse and the navigator at the same time. Thats where all the time savings of using this would come in. If they need me to do beta testing for this, I am definitely open to it.
  8. Do you have Enterprise too or do you have one of the other models? How do you get it to stay on walkthrough? If I select walkthrough with my mouse, the navigator stays in walkthrough for a few seconds and then it switches back to fly through. The menu button on the navigator switches between different camera modes but it doesn't have an option to stick with walk-through. I think there is definitely something wrong with how I have this set up. Are there any settings or preferences in Vectorworks for 3D Connexion or is it all done behind the scenes and everything is done through their system preference panel app? I haven't touched or found anything I vectorworks itself.
  9. Okay so my Enterprise has arrived. Using it with the demo they provide, it works great but using it with vectorworks, not so much. I'm not sure if its because Enterprise is not yet supported or if I am just doing something wrong. I found the knowledge base on how I should set it up with Vectorworks but it didn't seem to help. The buttons and Macros I set up work great but my main issues is that as soon as I touch the knob In a 3D view it moves me to a completely different place or switches my view entirely. I get completely lost of where I am at so I have to reorient myself with the mouse. The other issue I have is that I thought the point of this is so that you can work with two hands at the same time. I can't seem to do that. When I'm using the navigator, my selected tool switches over to flyover until I let go of it. That makes using the mouse in my other hand useless. Since these navigators are getting rave reviews, I know I am doing something wrong because its basically unusable for me. If anyone has some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.
  10. Thanks Jim, I was thinking more of the lines of marketing. LOL. I want to make sure my most wanted wish is on the first page. The more people see it, the better chance they go "Oh yah, I really want that too and vote it up" If its buried on the fourth page, there is a much less chance of them being reminded to vote. Sorry. if I am being too calculating but I really want this to be a priority. I am also concerned that a lot of people don't know what "UV mapping" is and will skip by it. If I didn't know what it was, I would think this would have something to do with the sun or lighting. I am wondering if we can change or add to the title with something that more people would understand.
  11. Jim, I was just wondering how things get to appear in the "popular questions" section? Is it by vote, or by view, or is this something that you manually do? Since UV mapping has 7 votes, not sure why this isn't up there.

Here are the steps I did to make the metal spindle Placed an image of the spindle down in plan view Used “Symetrics by Distance” in the scale objects menu to get the image down to the right size. Used the double-line polygon tool to basically trace the image by strategically placing points on the curves. Then converted those points to various curves using “Change Vertex Mode” in the reshape tool and moved the various points around to make sure everything was traced nicely. Its easier to trace small portions and then use the Add surface menu to turn them into one polygon at the end. Once you're done tracing, its just a simple extrude. It ends there, if your railing is straight but because this spindle is on a curved rail, it also needs to be curved. I did this with these Steps: Converted a copy of the spindle to a generic solid (I say a copy because after you do this you can no longer edit the geometry of the spindle) then under the 3D Modelling palette, I used “Bend Solid Mode” in the Deform Tool to Bend the spindle to the appropriate curve. It sounds a lot more complicated then it is. The hardest part is the tracing but with experience, you learn how each different curve behaves and the process gets a lot faster. I'm not sure if I am good explainer or not so if there is something that doesn't make sense, just let me know and I will try to clarify things a little better.
  13. Thanks for your efforts Jim. Now that I know they have living people their for support, I may just get one anyways and just not expect too much out of it. I found a place here in Canada where I could get it for $399 CAD which isn't bad ( a little over double the basic one). I figure I can at least use the orientation and modifier buttons as well as set up the icon buttons for some tool shortcuts. Who knows, if Apple doesn't release a new Mac Pro really soon, I'm switching to Windows anyways. I look forward to seeing what you guys do with Enterprise support and although the icons won't work, I hope everything else will work on the Mac the same as it will on Windows.

  15. If you are able to convert the object to a generic solid you are able to gain a little more control but the mapping will still be messed up regardless. You just got to see what looks the least bad. note: that once you convert to a generic solid you will no longer be able to edit the object so it's good practice to keep a copy before converting. Unfortunately, vectorworks texture mapping capabilities or lack there of are very poor. In order to properly map stretched nurbs and many other object types, vectorworks must implement something that's called UV mapping. VERY IMPORTANT.   17. Hey... I didn't know admins could have wishes. You guys are like normal people. Yes, I agree some sort of "Materials" implementation is very important but I am going to have to think this through before I vote this up. I'll get back to this one shortly with my thoughts.

  19. I am bringing this Wish back to the top. I wasn't sure which one to revive because this topic is spread across this board in so many ways and so many times. I am really loving Subdivision 2.0. I feel like I can create almost anything with ease now. The VW team did an excellent job on it and I look forward to a few more capabilities in the future (I'll save that for another wish). But as my love increases for the modelling tools, my hate and frustration grows exponentially for texture mapping. There are so many things that I would love to create but I can't because it can't be textured properly. Texture mapping on Subdivision objects has improved but this is one of those things that improvements don't mean very much. Its either textured right or it isn't. With absolutely no way to control the minor offsets, unwanted stretching, etc... its a deal breaker. I'm not going to present something that sorta looks okay. This also goes for all the other objects rdesign mentioned above. My biggest waste of time in vectorworks is jumping through hoops finding work arounds to texture objects so that they look good. You know there is a problem when people are recommending that you export out of your $5000+ software and texture it in Free SketchUp and then re-import it back. If that's not embarrassing, I don't what is. I know I have discussed this with Jim before several times and at one point I said, I would be okay if they just gave us more mapping control of each object but the more I think about it, I feel that this needs to be done once and it needs to be done right. I don't care if its UV or Ptex or what ever you want to call it but we need to be able to have full control of mapping. If there is one thing I want more than anything. This is it. Please everyone...   20. Wow, I learned something new today, I didn't know the the Tool Sets were tear away like that. But yes something like that would be perfect. Thanks for teaching me this. It makes sense to do it the same way for consistency sake but that definitely would make my workflow a lot easier. The new trick you taught me already improves my workflow on the left side! Fantastic.
  21. I hate switching out of my Design layer to go to a sheet layer or saved view. I find it very disruptive for something thats done a million times a day. With the resource browser taken away from the pallets, it gives us a little more room to implement some new ideas. I would like to be able to have multiple instances of the navigation palette. That way I can have my Design layers, sheet layers and views all in a static location. I know you can have some of these things in the title bar but I don't like that approach. With everything on, the title bar becomes too complex and it becomes a hunt each time you need to do anything. Like I said, switching between design layers, views, and sheet layers is something everyone does many times a day. It would be nice to have those all visible and available in static locations.
  22. Hi Jim, Loving the new site. For the sake of further improvements, I find the Wishlist section a bit confusing. I know there are limitations of what you can do so it may not be possible to change or you may find some easy solutions (thats why they pay you the big bucks). Here are my issues. When you first click into the Wishlist section you are greeted with your description "Please post your Vectorworks wishes and suggestions here. There is no guarantee when, or if, these will be incorporated, but we will make sure that all requests are entered in our database." This is great, but it really doesn't explain how it works. On this page, it has a button that says "ask a question" but I don't want to ask a question, I want to make a wish. There was some hesitation on my part, if that's what I would use to do that. Next thing I noticed on this page was each wish was followed by a tally of their votes and answers, that's great so I knew there was some kind of vote system. So i click into a thread to see the Question wish, and it was followed by a bunch of answers, some with the typical +1 and that they increased the OP's reputation. Until today, I thought that's how you voted until I saw threads with a bunch of increased reputation but hardly any votes. So I wondered, well how do you vote then. I searched and searched and couldn't figure it out. I finally noticed the arrows by the topic title with a tooltip that pops up only when you mouse over it. I'll leave it to you, if you think this a problem that needs a solution but at bare minimum, I think, the greeting description should give a little more instruction of how this section works. Other suggestions I have is If you can change the button to "make a wish" instead of ask a question. Maybe make the vote button a prominent Red with text that says vote here.
  23. Gilbert... I think you are right. It kind of looks like its a one man show and that one man either has too much on his plate or just doesn't care. In saying that, today he finally went on their boards and answered a bunch of questions. The last time he did that was August 25, and today is September 16 (basically 3 weeks). He did answer my question and this is all he wrote: "For now there is no plan to add this on Mac." I have yet to receive any reply to my 2 emails directly sent to sales. Maybe its the same guy and I will get them today because he finally showed up to work. Doesn't matter though, since my question is essentially answered. For those of you who own one or were looking forward to getting one , i would head Jim's advice and let them know you want Mac support for icons. So far, only myself and zoomer were the only ones to post which is kind of disappointing. Come on guys, lets fill up their boards with requests because I think this will be a game changing tool once Vectorworks fully implements it.   24. Thank you for the confirmation Dave... I don't have a problem with the change. It actually seems to be more predictable and behave as one would expect when adjusting the settings. The only problem is that any textures that I have with reflections will need to be adjusted (and I have a lot of them). My sole intent with this thread was to warn others to make sure they add in extra time for this just in case they are daring enough to switch mid project.
