If you stretch the vw main window across both monitors you can have two different file windows open within the main window. One on each monitor.

this is still happening and making the "Display Extents before cut plane function of section viewports useless. This only happens when this function is used. Here's another example. No one else experiencing this and know of a solution?

I think if you summarise by the tag name then those identical, Windows will only appear once. However as pat mentioned ALL data for those windows will need to be identical. Data that isn't the same will show as a dash.

Purge Design Layers not visible in any viewports

Cool thanks. Will use that in future. I checked & see it will also list DLVP's too. Would still be good if this could be done straight from the purge command however... -
Purge Design Layers not visible in any viewports
Boh posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
I would find this a real saver. At the moment when purging out a document I need to go through and check if each DL is actually being used before deleting it. -
Thanks Iskra. Great response! I guess I couldn't be much further from Northern Virgina (I'm in New Zealand)! Yes I was wondering about the empty folders and why they were still there on the cloud portal. The shortcut link was on the portal for some months but I never saw the actual contents of the referenced project (located on our office local server) uploaded onto the portal. I also looked through the trash and didn't see it there either. I am pretty sure the cause of the error however was the shortcut file - so I guess the main learning here is to not put shortcut files into shared folders! Will look into this, good tip, thanks.

So I found the "VW Desktop App" hiding down in the right hand side of on my computer taskbar. Right click and on little icon to get status. Now I have another problem...I don't why or how this happened. Somehow perhaps after clicking on "Sync" the contents of a project folder on my computer got almost completely deleted. VW cloud services isn't even supposed to be connected to that folder. The stuff was definitely there prior to playing around with VW cloud services. So far not having a good experience with this... Any help or suggestions welcome!

Not sure if using VW cloud services for sharing files. Dropbox seems to be much faster at synchonizing.

Is there a way to update the synchronizing of the VW cloud servics web portal? I have added some folders and renamed some on my desktop machine but when I look on the web portal they are not updating there? I want to share the files on the web portal with a client but they aren't updating to what I have on my computer. Any suggestions appreciated! Desktop: Web Portal

This would be really good however I haven't found a way of doing it. I tend to have all keynote legends specific to the sheet they are on. (I don't put them on design layers). I have recently started making project specific notes databases and adding notes to it as I annotate. I can then draw these notes from the database to use on other sheets. They don't automatically update across the file however...

Hi Andrew. I looked quickly at your file and I couldn't find any symbols that I couldn't select on the Welcome Reception Hired Furniture Layer. But as you say many of the symbols have 2d geometry on a 3d plane in the 3d part of the symbol. I ran the custom plugin mentioned previously which converted all 2d objects in the whole file to screen plane. It seems to work on objects inside symbols too. This was very quick! Attached your file with everything stripped out except the Welcome Reception Hired Furniture Layer. See if this resolves the odd behavior. Bo GWC2018 - EMEA - v014-test.vwx

Hi Andrew. I can't open your file as not a Flair member (need to login) but suggest instead of copying and pasting the 2d part of symbols from the 3d part to the 2d part simply put these parts on the screen plan. If they still have 3d elements after this then they will become a hybrid symbol. If not then they should just become simple 2d symbols. Perhaps try this on one symbol? According to this thread there is a plugin that will change all objects in a file to screen or layer plane which I am not sure will work on symbols but you could try. One other thought. Are the objects you are trying to select in VP annotations? If so, and if their general class visibility is OFF and their VP class visibility is ON then you will be able to see the object but not select it. Hope that is helpful.

Here's your file in v2018. I think you would otherwise have to reload v2019. Prop. Plane v2018.vwx

For top/plan views yes it is reliable. You need to have an organised file with clearly named DL's and VP's as otherwise it can get confusing if you have multiple DLVP's. For 3d work, I only use DLVP's for new builds where the siting of the bldg is still to be determined. i.e. the model is in a DLVP so it can be nudged around the site as the design progresses. I prefer to put DLVP in there own (clearly named) DL simply to keep the file clearly organised as mentioned above, however the DLVP does not need to be on it's own VP (It could be on it's own class instead). Should also have mentioned that similarly to SLVP design layer visibilities you need to use the class visibilities of the DLVP's.
-
My method is is similar to stacking viewports but instead of stacking two (or more) SLVP's I create an embedded design layer viewport of the layers you want to turn classes off. The SLVP will view this DLVP (which can be on it's own designated design layer) instead of the actual design layer. The class visibilities of the DLVP can be adjusted independently of the class visibilities of the SLVP. So a class called "Door Tags" could be off in the DLVP and on in the SLVP so the door tags of only the layers NOT in the DLVP will be visible. Confusing? Easier to do than describe... For this to work the SLVP layer visibility settings needs to have visibilities for embedded DLVP settings checked.

If you search up workgroups on this forum you will find lots of info on this. Essentially the location is set in the user folders tab of the preferences dialogue. Go to Tools menu-> options> Vectorworks preferences. Once you set up your office workgroup on the server save your drawing templates in the "templates" folder as template (.sta) files. (Got to File, menu-> save as Template). They will then appear in the drop down list when you go File->New. Just reread your post. If you just want to import the titleblocks into files then the "titleblocks" will need to be saved into the appropriate folder of the workgroup library. I don't use the Title Block manager (yet) so can't help beyond that.

Yes, not ideal. However we typically have floor plans at 1:50 with overall key plans at 1:100 or 1:200. Those 3 scales cover 90% of plans for our projects. For smaller scale detail plans we don't show the space label as it's usually not in the right place and not really necessary.

I agree. Only draw back is that cross sections of the decking will not show the roof profile or is there a way to do that with roof styles?

Collapsable Sheet and Layer Folders
Boh replied to Liene Cikanovica's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
They could be preset up in your project template file(s) For 3d work you need to name your viewports so that you can place section line instances in them. There is a script you can download on the forum (haven't got time to fine it right now) but it renames selected viewports "Sheet No. / Drawing Number / Drawing Title." One of the best tools ever! -
Collapsable Sheet and Layer Folders

Should have also mentioned that VW2019 has class & layer filters that should come in very useful for you. I've played with it a bit and it really helps navigate around a file that has 400 odd classes... https://www.vectorworks.net/training/2019/getting-started-guides/bim-architectural/layer-and-class-filtering -
Collapsable Sheet and Layer Folders
Boh replied to Liene Cikanovica's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Well there are lots of ways to skin a cat... We have an office standard system using prefixes to group design layers together and a bunch of blank design layers to act as separators between groups. A screen shot of a job attached. You are probably working on more complex jobs however this one is a 3 storey commercial refurb project, not huge but complex enough. We have our files set up for 3d modelling so the DL's are stacked for the model and generally only 3d info and 2d info that needs to be on a DL go on design layers. Everything else we try to put directly on the sheet or in VP annotations. This keeps the number of DL's down. Many items like legends are symbols that go in VP annotations. So looking at your list of DL's we would have: "Annotation" & "Legends" in VP annotations. "Schedules" are worksheets are just text? That could go directly on a sheet. "Space Tags" would be part of space objects that go on a "Floor" DL (not on their own DL) Our construction details are generally 2d and we place them in VP annotations. The VP may start out as a detail viewport but we draw over that in annotations so when the detail is finished we may turn off all DL visibilities for that VP. In this way the VP is simply acting like a container group that can be scaled and go directly on a SL. Elevations & Sections are typically live sections of the 3d model so don't require there own sheet layers (However note we did do some 2D sections for this project). Hope that is useful info! -
Does anyone know why this happens with extrude along path objects in hidden line renders? It is fine in OpenGL as per screenshots below. If I edit the extrude profile & switch it to screen plane, then sometimes the objects reappear only to find them gone again later on. Changing the smoothing angle in background render settings doesn't seem to make any diff. The extrude in this instance is a pipe railing with circles for the profile.

Like your styles Grethe! If you have time I'd appreciate your expert comments on this recent post of mine. Thanks

Delete all annotations in selected viewports
Boh replied to NicoleD's question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
Great script! Dumb question: I didn't think DLVP's had annotations? -
Thanks for the feedback! Revised one below taking on board your suggestions. For some reason I couldn't get the soft shadows working on this, they are much harsher in this version for some reason. Soft shadows are greyed out in the visaulisation palette. Do you know why this might be? I haven't touched ambient occlusion but without soft shadows that seems to have toned down a bit. It quickly got washed out as I adjusted the ambient light up so haven't touched that. I think OpenGL only works with up to 8 lights hence that's why I had that note. I've taken a couple out of this version plus lowered the light z height and tweeked the light level too. Nice comment about keeping the perspective looking undistorted. I struggle with that as it's really hard in a tight interior space. If people have more suggestions I will keep updating the image and notes settings and reposting.
