It is Solved! Andy in Tech support was lots of help and I needed to install the latest Catalyst drivers from ATI.

Bump

I just installed 12 and OGL rendering no longer works. It just renders a white screen. All the other render setting work fine and if I open the same file in 11.5 it renders fine. (The scene is just a blue extruded rectange in isometric view)
I am on a PC, XPSP2, P4 3.0, ATI9800 with current driver 6.14.10.6414

chirp....chirp....chirp.....

Adobe Illustrator can open a PDF and convert it to DWG. Text is text, lines are lines. I do it all the time.
-
So.... After reading the pdf of new features is it safe to assume that other than changing the gobo projector that the spotlight module is still the same as it was in V 9.0? Left behind once again? Updatable worksheets? Update to lable legends? Position summaries? Accesories, intruments and position objects that stick to one another?
Please let us know if there have been any meaningful changes.

I have found that when I selct a dimension it flashes for 2 or 3 seconds before allowing me to do anything to it. Grouping, ungrouping, duplicating and moving symbols is much slower than V10. I am on 11.5.1

You can export the standard VW lights to cinema where they will be translated to the C4D equivalent. If you are wondering about exporting spotlight lighting instruments and visualizing them in C4D, then no you can't.
-
Maya is a great program that can create fabulous renderings and animation. Unfortunately there is no easy reliable way to get your VW files into Maya. DXF export is the best way and not very good. My advice would be to check out Cinema 4D (www.maxon.net). It can do everything Maya can in regards to Arch Vis and has a nice plug in to get your VW files into C4D. It's also half the price.

I heard there was a way to extract the image files that renderworks textures are based on using vectorscript. Anyone know how to go about doing this? Many thanks

They are very handy for placing something that you only want on that sheet and that needs to be at the same scale as the drawing. Legends and keys for example.

It now works with 11.5
-
You would have to make the object a hybrid symbol and have the 2d representation of it show no fill and the 3d with a fill.
-
Thanks for the response. I also emailed Maxon but have not gotten a reply. I guess I'll revert to 11.0.1 and wait for the update.
-
I upgraded to 11.5 and now my export to C4D doesn't work. The option is grayed out and says "Cinema 4D export US VW 10.qtr" not in directory. There is an rsr file there with the same name so I renamed it. It's not grayed out anymore, but still doesn't work.
HELP!
-
Hey thanks a lot. I emailed it to you.
-
Gee, I didn't think of that. It was handed from person to person to person.
I haven't been able to find any info on a program that uses that extension and have tried renaming to all the usual suspects. It's probably some cheap consumer cad program like 3d home designer or something.
-
I got a .cad file from someone today. Anybody have any idea what created it and if I can convert it to something usable?
-
The rendering engine that RW uses is very old and basic. Cinema's is regularly updated, optimised for current hardware and one of the fastest available anywhere.
-
You beat me to it!
-
Sure, but since each viewport can have a different scale you'll need one for each viewport. Just put a drawing label object (in the drafting tools symbol folder) into viewport annotations.
-
It sure would be nice if it worked exactly like viewports.
-
VW11 is all about viewports. They are a huge advance and I don't know how I ever worked without them. As others have mentioned, there is always room for improvement. I REALLY wish you could copy sheet layers and workgroup referencing needs to have the same functionality as viewports i.e. cropping, moving, controlling class vivibility, etc...
The Spotlight module is also desperate for an update.
-
OK, I sometimes need to diplay text at 270 degrees rotation. With adjust flipped text checked it will automatically rotate the text the other way. I usually get aroung this by typing in 270 in the rotation field on the OIP. HOWEVER, viewports don't obey this rotation. Even if it looks correct in the design layer the viewport will flip it and there doesn't seem to be a way around it. I REALLY don't want to turn off adjust flipped text because I mirror text all the time. Anything I can do????? Many Thanks!
Workspace Question
in General Discussion
Posted
I am teaching a class on using vectorworks for a specific application. I have put together a workspace that it well suited to this, but some students will be on Macs and some on PCs. Can the workspace file be used cross platform? Also what happens if I include a tool in the workspace that the student may not have available. For example: I have the Industry collection, but some students will only have spotlight. Will the unavailable tools just be greyed out?
Thanks!
