  1. Using the "stake objects" tool is very useful, I have tried it. However, is there a way to create the roads without all of the data and dimensions (i.e. sketched out only). Also, this tool would be much more useful if you added the ability to set a right-of-way width. Perhaps this should be added to the wish list.
  2. Katie: I forgot to mention, we only use ariel type face. The print driver was just updated (I believe it has a Feb. 2002 date). Johnharley
  3. We have had the same problem too. We have an hp500 with accessory card and maximum memory. The system is a dell 933 mhz,512 megs of ram, ati rage card, using true type fonts, running on win xp professional. When I have had this happen I simply close the file... I then open it again and it prints fine. We did just upgrade to 9.51, I don't believe it has happened since then (it will probably do it today).
  4. I agree. We have been running VW 9.5 on a Dell 933mhz PIII with 512 mb of Ram, WinXP Pro and a 64 mb video card. Vectorworks is VERY slow to open, compared to AutoCAD Lt and Paint Shop Pro It is also slower at performing similar tasks. However, I have found Vectorworks to be far more stable than AutoCad Lt (crash city) and far superior to AutoCAD at bringing in outside images (i.e. jpegs, tiffs, etc) to work on.... But a slightly quicker response would be nice.
  5. I have been using the property line tool. This is a great feature, very easy to use. However, when using the "label" option, the bearing is printed on one side of the line and distance is printed on the other. The two notations are not equi-distant from the line (the "inner" note is always set back farther) and it looks a bit strange. How can I make the two notations equal distant? Or (better) how could I put them both on the outside but spaced apart? One final question on notation. How can I get bearings written using degree-minute-second symbols? Instead of "d-m-s'. Thanks
  6. XP appears to be working great. However, this situation was the same before up grading to XP. I do not want to change the system default printer because we also use the deskjet often for other types of documents. I guess what I am thinking of is; in AutoCad 2000 under options you can designate the default plotter/printer to be used by the program. Also, layouts in paperspace will retain the plot settings and always print to that plotter/printer. Is VW supposed to work this way? or, Does it always revert back to the system default printer(or plotter)?
  7. I am running on a PC with winxp pro. The plotter is hooked up via usb. The printer parrallel.
  8. Is there any way to designate a specific printer to always be used? (other than changing the system default printer) We have a Designjet plotter and a deskjet printer hooked up to the same machine. The deskjet is set as the default printer. When ever I print from VW9 I always have to change to the plotter for output.
  9. I view the discussion forum in both Opera5 and IE5.5 I have noticed no display changes at all. Everything is very easy to read. The revised format also seems a bit easier to navigate.
  10. I had a chance to try this feature. THIS IS REALLY NEAT! Now if you could add the option for a Right-of-way it would be perfect.
  11. I also tried running the script and got some strange answers. However, I am a beginer with VectorWorks and have zero experience with writing scripts. This illustrates why measuring in acres should be built in to the program "right out of the box". In my mind measuring objects and areas (not just closed polygons)is a must is you want Landmark and Architect to succeed.
  12. I installed XP Pro last Friday (replacing Win ME) We have had no trouble ,....yet. Actually all programs run much faster. Although in general VW 9 takes longer to open than Paint Shop Pro or AutoCad LT. It has seemed to fix one quirk we had with Win ME. When we would open a VW file from the start button > recent documents VectorWorks would start to open, after the prgram window appeared everything would disappeaer and you would be back at the desk top (We also had some strange quirks with AutoCad Lt). XP seems to have eliminated these problems and everything else appears normal (printing , importing, etc.) However, as with all windows products time will be the judge. Will it get all gummed up in 6 months?
  13. It would be VERY helpful to have a tool that would generate a road (or driveway) from a centerline. The tool could start by letting the user draw a centerline composed of connected arcs and tangents. Then, a box could pop up an ask: width of road, do you want curbing?, drop or swale? and size and finally do you want a right of way?. After defining the parameters the road would generate automatically. The present road tool in Landmark is very basic and is really only useful for driveways and parking lots.
  14. I also will try this technique. However, this is something that should be availabe out of the box. Newcomers to Vectorworks (such as myself)are concentrating on learning the program and should not have to spend time writing scripts. quote: Originally posted by Andrew Bell@NNA: No, but a quick VectorScript that does the conversion is pretty simple. If your units are "Feet and inches", the following VectorScript will show the area of all selected objects in acres: Message('Acreage is ', Area(Sel=TRUE)/6272640); You can create a plug-in menu item, enter that single line as the script, add it to your workspace, and give it a keyboard shortcut. Presto, acreage on demand.
  15. Using landmark is there a way to measure objects and areas in acres as opposed to square feet? This is cumbersome to continually convert values. ------------------
  16. AMEN! We recently purchased the Landmark version and I have been searching for the same feature. It is hard to believe this could have been overlooked in a program for landscape architects and site planners. If this is not available it should be at the top of the Landmark wishlist. quote: Originally posted by Mark Chevalier: Is there a way for the object info pallette to show polygon area as acres as well as / instead of sq ft? I see only sq ft and working on site plan parcels this would save a calculation every time. We are using 8.5.2 VW. Thanks! ------------------
  17. Please do add this to the wishlist. I think this Brings a greater ease of use to the program. we currently have this type of zooming capability on Autocad lt and Paint Shop Pro. P.S. So far I have been very impressed with the performance and potential of Vetorworks. Its just alot to lean while you still have to make deadlines. But I think in the long run it will prove very versitle and useful. quote: Originally posted by Brian O: John: I do not have an Intellimouse, however as far as I know of the only feature available in VectorWorks that can be used is the vertical scroll. I will be happy to add the other features to the Wish List to see if there can be greater interaction in the future.
  18. I am brand new to vectorworks. We are still very much "learning the ropes". My question is: does scrolling the intellimouse wheel have any real functionality in vectorworks? As far as I can tell it merely moves the drawing up and down. Zooming capabilities would be nice. ------------------
