  1. Even that would be an improvement.
  2. I admit I am also an AutoCAD user. But I also use Paint Shop Pro. Many graphics programs use some form of number coding. When you get acustomed to using a series of pallettes it's just easier to punch in numbers. I still think number input of colors would be an improvment.
  3. Is their any way to enter colors for layers, objects... anything, by using numbers? I'm refering to the numbers which print out on the Vectorworks color palette. The flyout dialiog box can be difficult to use and get the exact color desired (for those of use over forty...the eyes are as sharp as you young whipper-snappers). It would seem to me this should be included the object information. If this is not possible it should be added to the wish list.
  4. Sorry about that, I am using VW10 on windows. I can also choose where to save the file, however when you go back to save another file it keeps defaulting to C:/program files/vectorworks (which is probably the last place you would want to save active work to).
  5. When saving a new drawing, is it possible to change the default location of where the file is to be saved? OR... better yet can I add a location to the choices on the left hand side of the dialogue box? Such as: D:/Projects.
  6. I am trying to devise a technique I can use to "feather" the edges of a rendering (2d rendering). This is mainly needed for site plans that have large areas of tree masses which go well beyond the property line. (I generally like to show the context of a site, rather than just cutting everything off at the property line). One idea I had was to create a mask as the top layer. The mask would then have a cut-out in some shape. I was wondering if it is possible to use a type of gradient were the mask could go from all white (at the edges) to transparent (in the middle near the rendering). OR is their some other way of accomplishing this? I am using VW10 (win) Landmark.
  7. Sorry about that. I'm using VW10 Landmark. I have played a little bit with the image infill. It looks promising but the image is always too small. Is there a way to adjust the size of the image? Or, does this have to be done in an image editing program?
  8. Does anyone out there have a good looking, quick technique for tree masses? Not just a veg-line line or plant-line with green in it. This is for 2d rendering only. I would like something with multipy colors of green (3-5 shades). Any suggestions would be helpful.
  9. The new zoom feature in vw10 is really great, and very unique! Using the wheel with no keys scrolls up and down. Using the wheel holding down the Ctrl key (win) zooms in and out. Using the wheel holding down the Shift key scrolls left and right. This really is a smooth way to navigate around a drawing. I guess the programmers have proven, you really can improve on an old trick. My hats off to you, well done.
  10. Thanks TS this worked beautifully. I was able to do exactly what I was looking for. Do you have any tips for working with large raster images. These are tiff files that are 30"x42" (at 100%) that were done at 300 dpi. So they are pretty hefty. I have a 2.0 ghz dell, with 512 mb of ram and a 64 mb video card - but I still experience some delay when move around on the drawing.
  11. Is there a way I can bring a raster image into Vectorworks (or Renderworks)so the background is transparent? I would like to be able to layout blocks of color behind the image with the line-work on top. Just started using VW 10.
  12. Boy, the economy must be slowing down with chatter like this. My biggest challenge is continuing to learn a software package while still making daily deadlines.. Don't all of your clients still give you deadlines?? Do you guys have clients?? Just kidding, but things do get off on tanget here at times. Personally, I think VW's support is top notch. It certainly is far more responsive than A***desk.
  13. When you choose a printer, are you printing to Acrobat Writer or Acrobat Distiller? I believe for graphics and accurate formatting you must print to Distiller. I have used Acrobat 4, printing from both Vectorworks and AutoCAD and have had very few problems.
  14. Hey, that really neat! Thanks.
  15. Is there a keyboard shortcut to "de-select all" (so the tool presently used stays active)? I know I can right click the mouse button and choose this option. I would prefer a keyboard shortcut. I am using the WIN version of 9.51
  16. I have not been able to "force" it to crash as you suggested Matthew. But the Error message is exactly as Anita stated in her message. I did manage to make a screen capture of the error dialog box is that is useful to you.?
  17. Amen!!, Adding the dimension pop-up to the dialog box would really help. One more minor suggestion. Could the icon be tweaked just slighlty? When the tool is activated the user preference icons (upper left) show offset lines meeting with a corner. However, the icon on the tool bar shows offset lines meeting with a "rounded" corner. I quite often pick this by mistake for the fillet command. (I hope I'm not be too nit-picky)
  18. Please do something to improve the use of the offset tool! In its present form in is cumbersome (and down right irritating). My biggest complaint is that the newly created line, arc, etc. is active(selected). Therefore to offset a new item (or the other side) you have to deselect the newly create item. I admit this is useful if you want an offset of the newly created object (such as parking spaces). As a Land planner I use the offset tool ALOT, mostly for roads and right-of-ways, but also lots lines and yard setbacks. What would really be great (since we're talkin wishlist) would be a user setting where you could specify "offset to one side" or "offset on both sides". But in any case the newly created object should simply appear, so you can use the tool again immediately elsewhere. Thanks for listening.
  19. What version of Acrobat are you using? I have v.4 and have have some success. However my understanding is that v.5 is supposed to be more CAD friendly.
  20. I just tried opening another drawing and got the same results. Then I tried drawing a line, selecting the line and tried to change the color. It crashed as soon as I picked the color box (to open the pallette). Any thoughts???
  21. This is really more of a question as opposed to a problem. I am working on a 24 x 36 inch sheet, my plotter is an HP designjet500. When I go into set print area and pick "page" the print driver spools one page however some of the objects on the sheet (towards the edges) don't print. If I set the print area to Arch D or 24 x 36 the page prints fine. However, I noticed when the program spools to the plotter it actually sents 4 sheets, I see the print driver say: "printing page 1,2,3,4". After all this, 1 24x36 sheet prints out. Why is this spooling 4 sheets.
  22. While working on a drawing, in recieved a "visual basic C+ somethingerother runtime error". Which forced the program to shut down. This consistantly happened at the same point (3 times) After drawing a rectangle, I have the object selected and I am trying to change the fill color. In the attributes palatte, as soon as I hit the color bar the program crashs. I am using the windows version with XP pro, the system is a Dell933, with 512 megs of ram, 32 meg ATI vid card. Question: I just remembered something. Would moving the origin point cause this????
  23. David:Thanks very much. This is exactly what I was thinking of. I loaded both of these scripts. The first one is working great. The second one seems to be giving me some trouble. It loads and compiles fine. But I can't get it to offset the line/arc. Is there someting in particular I need to do while executing the script. Do I make any adjustments to the offset tool?
  24. Is there an easy way (or does anyone have a script) to offset two lines, one on each side of a central line? When performing this function the offset tool can be irritating. This is because after choosing the line to offset, the new line is now active. So if you click again-you either get: a new line farther from the centerline or a new line on the centerline. I guess another way to solve this would be: some way that the new line is created but not active.? I'm not really "up" on scripts, but there must be some way to do this. Any suggestions would be welcome.
  25. Question: What is the best type of polyline to use for drawing contours? For instance, if you are tracing them from a scanned document. I would also like to be able to export them later to AutoCAD and have them show up as fully editable p-lines.
