  1. In other words, the requested functionality does not exist, so I'm suggesting workarounds to help find a solution under a deadline (plating up a drawing set) before a VE is released 2 years or never from now.
  2. Sure but clipping a model is essentially creating a section view, so it's really just about faking the wireframe "render" of the clipped model (within the limitations of section viewports).
  3. Totally get that. Thought that others stated that it won't work. I think the closest way to fake wireframe (albeit the most expensive rendering time) would be a to use dashed hidden line (and possibly class the dashed line). Or possibly shaded without textures or colors, grey layers set to 100%, and some other fiddling to get there.
  4. Confused. Hidden line definitely works when I right-click a clip cube to create a section viewport:
  5. If I understand the question correctly... Whenever I create a VP from a CC, I can nav back to that CC. Whenever I create a VP that's not from a CC, and then check that box, I can create a CC on that DL but I'll have right-click on the CC to create a new VP. That workflow is a bit like creating a section on a sheet layer (like most architects do). It's a bit idiosyncratic but a CC section is a section, so it want to be hidden line. Hopefully some of that is helpful.
  6. Totally compatible with VW (not so much with UE/TM). Maxed out M1 ultra is life-changing. Lengthy discussion here:
  7. Btw for context, what this means for me is not just a case of raw speed in the benchmarking sense. It means I'm finally using VW in ways that I've never been able to on a Mac. For example, workflows that include lots of RW to help visualize lighting and projection design, heavy model imports from vendors that I can't import on this machine because I just get the SBBOD, higher quality / LOD settings for various render modes... all while project sharing and referencing shuttle files. On that note, the referenced 100 million point cloud still works pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty good on the MBP. Whatever VW is doing with point clouds is super efficient.
  8. Been onsite with the 2019 MBP (maxed out with latest GPU) for a week now, and I want to throw this thing at a wall. I got used to the Studio / M1 Ultra (working on the same file all day everyday for the past 2 months). Going back to what you used before is always the acid test, and this is excruciating. There's no contest. When it's moving, it's slow. When it's not moving, it's constant beach balls / Force Quits. I can't wait to get home, and get back on the Studio.
  9. Thanks to some people that are smarter than me, I think I understand the discount next steps: Now through Sep 13, purchase v2022 perpetual license for 25% off v2023 is released on Sep 13 v2023 VSS is free for one year until it's time to renew VSS in Aug / Sep 2024 Is that correct?
  10. For me, it's been Vectorworks 20BeachBall. Record number of force quits (restarting for the third time in two hours as I type this) with so much lost work, I want to throw this MBP at the wall.
  11. From the mass email I just received: Now, riddle me this: Will the discounted perpetual license cost of 2023 be 25% less than 2022? Or will the discounted perpetual license cost of 2023 be 10% less than 2022 because 2023 will be 15% more? Or will the discounted perpetual license cost of 2023 be 0% less than 2022 because 2023 will be 25% more? Or will it be something totally different? I'll bet a taco it's #3 There's still time for a third mass email to clear up the confusion caused by the first two...
  12. Agreed. And yet that is the thing that’s being killed off for new users. That’s what’s so unexpected after all these years. The messaging went from “We need to create incentives to get more users onboard with VSS” to “Shut it down. Subscription only.” I can only assume that VSS has been great for us but a loss for VW.
  13. This sounds like the most accurate description of the change (after filtering out the marketing, hopes and dreams). What I’m just now realizing is that 2 things have been killed: Perpetual licenses The path to Service Select (pricing) vis a vis perpetual licenses Where there were 3 pricing models, there is now 1 (plus a legacy ghost plan on the side for those of us grandfathered into it). The other assumption here is that the cost of more frequent updates (quality and stability) will be underwritten by increased revenue of new users (as existing VSS users won’t be adding any revenue). The next generation is gonna have to skip their avocado toast to afford renting the software required to do our jobs. Also, I’m suddenly interested in VW quarterly earnings…
  14. Is it just VW or macOS that freezes? Does macOS log you out, and then bring you to the login screen?
  15. Took the Studio out of the box just shy of 2 months ago on June 11. I was absolutely 100% expecting dust to be an issue with this design, so I've diligently dusted my desk surface every other week. Today, as I was swapping out some cables with the new monitor, I tipped it on its side, and discovered this: This is the first computer that I've had to vacuum, and it looks like I'll be setting a reminder to do it monthly! Again, I'm not surprised by this idiotic design whatsoever. I even have an old Google search for trivets to help elevate it off the desk. Lord Jony Ive of House InnerCaps may be long gone but Apple are still haunted by function following form.
  16. Me again. Just when I thought I was out... Found this email in my inbox this morning: Without bias, I'll let everyone else decide how these rates from Maxon (also Nemetschek) compare with VW pricing. Notes: ZBrush was acquired and added at no cost to customers We need more of that, and less of Braceworks bending us over a barrel Just include ConnectCAD in Spotlight for crying out loud That's not to mention users have 3 confusing cable tool options to choose from in a paradox of choice $149 is the most expensive all-in monthly plan for Maxon $328 is the most expensive all-in monthly plan for VW Same products as my VSS plan which is significantly less Imagine spending 30-40k (after tax) on VW over a decade
  17. How did @digitalcarbon’s point about sending the developer a file for them to fix overnight turn into SS fixing bugs? Seems like a lot of the stuff I’m saying is getting taken out of context and twisted around to start a flame war, so I’ll see myself out.
  18. We just need Epic to buy VW and make it free for everyone. Then maybe we’ll have a fighting chance of Spotlight Lighting Devices working in Twinmotion.
  19. You’re right. That’s why I used Spotlight / Designer / Braceworks / ConnectCAD as an example.
  20. I've done this with SS many times. They have a FTP site for uploading files (or you can just send them a Dropbox link).
  21. 96% of marketshare sitting on the table with greedy Autodesk. Imagine if a $99/month sub came along and disrupted that!
  22. As we've been able to for years. Here are the existing plans (Designer plans cost more when paired with BW and/or CC):
