  1. I love the way that it follows the terrain and the ability to add gates is really fantastic!
  2. on a windows machine, search for Character Map. This will show you all the useful character types and the code you need to type in. on a macintosh it is option+0
  3. I don't think you can add additional fields to this dialog box.
  4. what is happening? does the dialog box open?
  5. if you want to go back to the old way of drawing, you can activate the legacy settings. This will allow you to go back to Screen plane mode if that's what you need. Activating these legacy options will only affect the current file as they are document settings rather than Vectorworks settings.
  6. like Tom W, i have added the 15º to my snaps. To do this add ;15
  7. in that case, select the object, go to the Object Info palette, click on Data, and click on the Attach IFC.. button. You will have to add some IFC data, otherwise the objects will not be exported.
  8. hi Daniel, it would also be a good idea to divide your plants folder up into the type of plants that you want such as trees, shrubs, groundcovers, etc. If you put each plant type into a separate folder in your favourites file, it will make it easier to look for the plant that you want.
  9. I don't have any spotlight objects, but I was able to export plants, hard scapes, site model, and a building from Vectorworks into ArchiCAD is an IFC Project. The export IFC project is under the export menu, near the top. If it's not showing on your workspace, try changing to one of the other workspaces like the Architect workspace. If that fails, then maybe you need to edit your workspace and add the export IFC project to your workspace. I hope this helps:
  10. I like Jeff's idea of using the hardscape to find the area, as it allows you to do a lot more than just find the area. If you use a hard cape, you can also set the 3D elevation of it and you could even use the handscape along with the buildings to do solar studies. Here is a movie I made to show you:
  11. I was asked by a subscriber if creating a quick house and Vectorworks was just as quick as creating a quick house in ArchiCAD. In this movie, you will learn how to import and scale a site plan, import and scale a house plan, trace over the house plan to create a slab, and use that to create walls and roofs.
  12. is there a reason why you don’t use a Draped hardscape?
  13. maybe the texture is too small, scale up the texture or get closer to the object
  14. ah, the old class issue. You have to be aware of the classes that you assign object to.
  15. the file shows lines in 3D, if you convert these to 3D ploygons, then you can use them to create the site model.
  16. If you use classes and set the classes attributes to Make All Attributes By Class, then you can change the graphic style of the line (but not the fill, depending on the plant options) by viewport.
  17. I use the fit wall to objects to edit the height of the walls. model the shape for the top of the walls, then use the fit walls to objects.
  18. I understand the gridlines created to only create the grids on viewports that are perpendicular to the gridlines. If your view ports are not at the correct angle, then they won't show up automatically. In this case, maybe you need to add the manual gridlines to the viewports.
  19. I can place the drains where you want, but be very careful about snapping to the loci, maybe Vectorworks is snapping to the loci and therefore it can’t see the slab.
  20. There is a solution for this. You can turn off the class for the linework, colour fill, but leave the outlines on. Ideally, you should create your library with a series of classes that will allow you to quickly change from the graphic design to the technical plan without any redrawing.
  21. you can do this with a viewport, it will allow you to crop the view to the size required, with out affecting the original data
  22. I have a youtube movie that shows how to import a plan and scale it to the correct size. You just need the first minute of this movie:
