  1. Thanks for adding it to the wish list Katie. I didn't mean to stir up any anti-imperial sentiment. Living in Vancouver we often have the metric system shoved down our throats, its refreshing to work in imperial once in a while. Thus the single-character fractions would be handy. In the mean time I can pick them out of the Windows character map up to 3/4", but a tolerance of up to 1/16" would be preferred :-)
  2. I'd love to avoid fractions within dimension strings from doing this: 6'-7 3/4" I'd rather have this: 6'-7?"
  3. Katie What you're referring to controls the dimension layout. I meant the actual way a fraction reads within the dimension itself. For example: ? or 1/4 ? or 1/2 ? or 3/4
  4. Besides replacing the the text within the dimention string with something out of the character map, does anyone know how to enable stacked fractions and/or set that as a default?
  5. How do I get my Simple Door 2 tool to insert the door in the wall with my "door" class all the time?
  6. The Export Image File function is not working in VWA 10.1.0. Absolutely nothing happens when I select it. All the other export functions seem to be working. It worked in 10.0....any ideas?
  7. Problem solved. I rolled back the driver from Mouseware 9.75 to 9.73 and everything works fine. You still might want to have a look at it though. Logitech tech support didn't know what to do. It's the same problem with all 5 of our workstations running VW 10.1 and a Logitch Mouseman Optical with Mouseware 9.75. We're just trying to take advantage of the thumb button that worked from VW 9 to VW 10.0.1. Some of us like to program it with the double-click command and some with the delete command.
  8. I've been using the 4 button Logitech Cordless Mouseman Optical with VW for the past year without a problem and most recently with VW 10.1. I've just upgraded to the Logitech Cordless Elite Duo which combines a cordless keyboard with the aforementioned mouse. The keyboard is fine and the mouse works in Microsoft and Adobe programs. However, the prgramable thumb button does not work within VW 10.1 with the latest Logitech software. Any suggestions?
  9. Hey Yovav Does it say anywhere on this thread or on the download site that Nemetschek, as you say, "promised" to release v10.1 on the 17th? I don't think so. Be patient...there's a snowstorm in them parts.

    HELP!

We have a Building Permit Application to submit within days and one of our files seems to be corrupt. Everytime we try to open it we get a Runtime Error. Who can I send the file to in order for VW MotherCorp to have a look at it?
  12. It would be a bonus if standalone classes from a refereced drawing were listed with italics similar to that in the Layers palettes.
  13. Just copy the workspace (.vww) file to a floppy and carry it around. Or send it to a Hotmail account and keep the attachment in the 'inbox' and just download it whenever you need it. I have a relatively complex workspace and the file size is only 275kb.
  14. I've found that the trim tool is basically for lines. Use 'Clip Surface' for trimming away segments of polys....much better.
  15. It'd be nice to have options within a group similar to that of Layer Options. So not only would you be able to see other objects while you're in a group, but you'd be able to grey others etc.

    VW CRASH!

It seems to be an issue with Adobe Acrobat Distiller setup. As soon as I use Print Setup and select another printer, it works just fine.

    VW CRASH!

Everytime I try to open a file from within VW I get a Runtime Error. The only way I can open a file is from within Windows Explorer. Is there a fix?
  18. Now that you understand the difference and it sounds like you're stuck using Vectorworks, its time to let go. You have to make the philisophical decision to continue thinking you're designing and building something line by line, co-ordinate by co-ordinate, or creating a presentation which best describes to the guys on site what you want built. There's nothing wrong with admitting that you were sucked into the AutoDesk marketing ploys about , we all were at some point. If you want to design a building use a pen and paper. If you want to graphically present your building design use Vectorworks, and if you want a fancy shmancy model use Maya. Time's up. Thanks for lying on Dr Runtime Error's couch. See you at our next session.
  19. DZens You sound like the typical Acad user struggling with VW for the first time. Don't fight it man...just let take control. Judging by your first few posts (re: trim command) and your rants here, I'm guessing your closing in on one month of Vectorworks usage. I started using Acad with r9 and dithced at r14 to take up VW8. I was cursing the CAD gods as to why my firm decided to purchase VW. After 3 months I turned the corner and was wondering why I'd used Acad for all those years. You just have to accept the fact that you're not drawing a building as AutoDesk marketing would have you believe, you're creating a presentation as if you were using Illustrator and Quark or InDesign. And Vectorworks just happens to be the most logical graphic design program dressed up like a CAD program.
  20. Gonna chalk this one up to a gremlin...seems to be ok after a reboot. If the problem persists, I'll forward the file to you.
  21. Vectorworks: Visual Quicktart Guide by Tom Baer published by Peachpit Press. This is one of the books we encourage new users in our office to read. In Medias Res is a company in Vancouver that specializes in tutorial books and training CD's specifically for Vectorworks. Talk to Geoff or Pete at 604-878-0289 or check their web site at www.inmediasres.net Any switch from AutoCad to another software is a good switch....
  22. I've just created a new blank Vectoworks file from scratch creating my own layers. When selecting a layer from the layer pull-down menu, it shows all 12 of the layer I've created. When I enter the layers dialog box, it shows only three layers. I've closed this file and reopened it numerous times to no avail.....any suggestions?
  23. Has anyone noticed that after installing v10 that access times to remote drives on a server have slowed to a crawl? I initally thought this was a Windows workstation/server issue, but when accessing files via Windows Explorer access times are reasonable. However, when opening files via Vectorworks 10 going through the CTRL+O or File>Open commands, access times to open folders on remote drives is taking forever. Has anyone else been experiencing this? FYI I'm running WinXP Pro workstations and and NT 4.0 server...all running the latest service packs.
  24. AutoCad is the classic Marxist example of the Bourgeois being upset by the Proletariat. In this case, Vectorworks playing the roll of the Proletariat (cue Fiddler on the Roof theme). The Bourgeois (AutoCad), comfortably numb in their ignorance, refuse to admit that advances by the Proletariat (Vectoworks) are much greater than what they?ve become comfortable with for the past few decades. In this case decades amount to the number of releases in which AutoCad made little to no attempt at injecting revolutionary changes into their archaic system. When the Bourgeois actually take into account what the Proletariat have accomplished, they hide their fear with empty comparisons refusing to admit that the Proletariat have erased that fine line between the two classes. And besides, AutoCad lines look cheap compared to those sexy VW lines. Vive le Vectorworks!
