  1. @Flair-Studio This is precisely why I posted that file…to offer up to VW users a few more choices relating to furniture items for their renderings, etc.
  2. @P Retondo......getting into the weeds a bit deeper with this.....I think I found a way for you to achieve what you wish...for the most part 🙂 I attached an updated 2020 file near the bottom, after the screenshots. have a look and digest the info. Let me know if you have questions. 3d Dimension 2 v2020.vwx
  3. So, I did some testing. 1) I rarely dimension with annotations in a viewport...with a few exceptions. Especially referencing a design layer that is in top plan view. 2) You can't 3d dimension an object in an isometric view within a viewport using annotations....like your example. You could, but it would be very time consuming, as you noted. It would need to be done sort of on the fly in a screen plane environment. 3) You were also correct that, sadly, modifying the text size within a viewport, using the 'advanced properties' option will change the text size, but it doesn't keep the text centered on the dimension line. Not sure why that is the case. Seems stupid 🙂 4) Would you really need to have multiple situations in a sheet layer viewport where you would need to change scale a lot? Doesn't seem like that would really be necessary ?? *5) Another option, if you really needed to change the text scale in a SLVP, would be to just duplicate the design layer you wanted to reference and change the text scale in THAT design layer, then reference that to a SLVP. That would be very quick and easy, seems to me. 6) I didn't really have any issues 3d dimensioning when referencing differnet working planes...not suer why that was an issue in your case. I attached a 2020 file if you want to have a look. May God be with you, my son. 🙂 haha DIMENSIONS TEST v2020.vwx
  4. I don’t think you want to use screen plane….that could prove to be undesirable… give me a few minutes and I will head to the computer and check all this out and export a file back to 2020 for you to review..
  5. @P Retondo you should be able to do that in 2020…I believe. the trick is to set the working plane appropriately pertaining to each dimension, on the design layer. Try that and if you are having trouble let me know. I am making lunch at the moment 🙂
  6. Paul Some very good thoughts you brought up pertaining to a possible VW Store with all the fixings 🙂 I really like the idea. Wow!! I am humbled by the video example ! Can I have your autograph?? 🙂 I had no idea you were a c4d guy. These days I use it with Redshift...beautiful and fast rendering! But....that said...we here are still in the VW universe, as are the regular users, so we also have to play in this sandbox too, hence my thought about a VW store of sorts, so folks can download VW items instead of importing other file formats, etc. I better shut-up now....so this thread doesn't irritate people 🙂 One more little 'gift' I just finished a few minutes ago....for you and the world. Version 2022 per usual. Lots of ' 3d fillets' ! Table & Chairs-Craftsman.vwx
  7. Yes, and related somewhat to your thoughts, I was also thinking that it may be a good idea to have a sort of “VW Store” where folks could make available to other VW users items that require a bit more complex VW tool useage that many users do not possess when new to VW. Over the years, I won’t tell you how much money I have spent on the Turbosquid site purchasing some really nice, tasteful furniture items to use in my renderings. One caveat with that is that when you import those items into VW the file size is always at least 5 times larger than the original !! Which is why I normally default to using c4d as my go to rendering program. Plus, because those imports are usually meshes, the textures and materials can many times not map correctly to an object. But….if these types of furniture, etc are created directly in VW, that problem usually becomes moot, and the file sizes become more manageable. Again, just a thought pertaining to a potential “VW Store”, where those that take the time to create these items would be compensated a bit for their time. Perhaps our friend @Pat Stanford could bring this idea up to the powers that be?? Maybe if I type louder he will hear this 🙂
  8. I did consider posting it up in one of the more visible forum categories, but then decided it may not have been appropriate.
  9. Paul Yeah, you are quite correct, once the thread goes bye-bye, they do get swallowed up and become a bit more invisible and less accessible. I agree.
  10. @VIRTUALENVIRONSThat is a thought. You thinking it is a bit too hidden down here? 🙂
  11. Hahaha…..interestingly, the person who posted that IS British….I won’t hold that against Tom W ! 🙂 Pat & Jeff…thanks for your thoughts on my meager offerings. I simply thought it would be nice to offer up some furniture items that, with all due respect, was perhaps a cut above some of the native VW furniture . Plus….I did have fun creating some of it!
  12. Awhile back someone posted a request to create some 'bespoke' ( I hate that word...so pretentious !) from some images that they posted. Of course, no real data, dimensions, etc were included for anyone to actually accurately create what they wanted. I sort of think they were just fishing. 🙂 Anyway....I kinda went nuts and did take some time to create, although knowing full well they would not be totally faithful to their images, some of the furniture items from their posted images. Here is a snapshot of the images they posted.... ......and here is a screenshot of what I created, and a few other items, using VW tools. Anyway....the attached file is a VW 2022 version. Certainly not furniture for just any interior Rendering, as the styles do vary, but there may be something in the file some of you could use 🙂 You will need to un-zip the compressed file. Did this to keep the file size a bit smaller. -Kev FURNITURE BESPOKE.vwx.zip
  13. I am curious….why would you even need to export all this to Illustrator? Why not just do all of this using VW? Again, I have no idea pertaining to the end product of what you are creating.
  14. @Mickey You didn't specify which version of VW you are using.... That said, here is a pretty good pool table. VW 2022 version. It is a semi-large file, so you can mess with 'Simplify Mesh' from the Modify menu, but be careful not to over simplify ! 🙂 POOL TABLE.vwx
  15. @DHudson Also....out of interest I exported the extrude along path object on the design layer to the "EPSF" format, then opened it in Photoshop, flatened the layer and it seems to have worked?? You may need to mess with the resolution. What ya think?? Maybe try it on your end.
  16. Pat & @DHudson Pat, perhaps this will clarify a bit more why he was having a few issues. Not relating to the Illustrator export, but just creating the EAP. 1) when I imported the dwg file into VW 2022, the profile came in as an 'None' filled polyline. As you noted Pat, it needs to have a solid fill to show correctly when rendered as hidden line. 2) it also came in as 3'6" tall...typical of dwg imports....you almost always need scale them....unless of course @DHudson wanted it to be 3'6" tall? 3) it also imported in a top plan view, which the shape would need to get flipped around to an elevational view to extrude along path correctly. 4) The screenshot below is an isometric view illustrating what Pat was trying to convey regarding the position of the shape in relation to the path object, prior to executing the EAP command. Notice the object touching the path shape (a simple rectangle in this case). In this situation I positioned the top edge of the object shape tp the path object, but that could easily be re-oriented. *5) Sometimes the EAP will fail to produce the desired results because of the direction of the path in relation to the item/shape used. You can note this by double clicking on the extrude along path object after it is created, selecting the path object, and in the Object Info Palette ticking the box that says 'show direction' In this case it wasn't really necessary, as there was not conflict. Just good to be aware of this. Anyway, sometimes the whole extrude along path option can be confusing to those starting out using VW. Maybe this de-mystifies it a bit 🙂
  17. Mike Don't ever believe what Tom W says. In fact, never ever make direct eye contact with him! 🙂 Sorry about posting that file and not asking you what version of VW you use. My bad. It may be of no interest to you, really. I probably got ahead of myself a bit. I have just found InteriorCad to be such a time saver as well as just, for the most part, a great piece of additional software to use within VW. IF you are interested in seeing that file, le me know and I can create a 2021 version for ya. Also...do you mainly create cabinetry, etc for your business, or do you specialize in other areas as well ?
  18. And to take this a bit further....I used this exact methodology on this commercial project in California..
  19. Phillip Looks like nobody has piped up yet regarding your inquiry. There are probably several ways to facilitate your curb dilemmas. One good way would be to simply make an extrude along path on a 3d polygon on the site model layer that uses the correct elevational data. You would have a few options to procure this, depending. This will get confusing to get into the weeds with this using text, but the reason I am suggesting creating an extrude along path is that it will allow you to tweak the profile of the curb and get it exactly as you want it to look. Using this methodology you dont need to mess with any of the more exotic site model based tools. I did a VERY simple example of a curb using two different close-up profiles noted in the screenshots below. Hopefully this makes some sense.
  20. Mike Although not perfect, I do think with some thought and planning, the symbol route may work pretty well for what you do. Nice presentation shown in the PDF !!! Not sure how you created all the sheets and views, but I imagine it took some time? Especially with all the parts layout? InteriorCad does that too...with one click, which is pretty cool. I attached a 2022 file of a cabinet created in InteriorCad. You won't be able to manipulate any of the settings, but you should able to rotate the vuew, but factions, use the clip cube too as well....just for fun 🙂 Be sure to note the sheet layer...that is where it automatically placed every part of the cabinet! Again, not forcing InteriorCad on you...just making you aware. Mike M.vwx
  21. Ok then, no worries 🙂 Yes, I am using 2022.
