  1. Maybe they haven't provided a live section tool. I didn't see anything regarding live viewports on the menu option, if they have implemented this it may be part of the section viewport or somewhere else maybe as a tool? However, there seems to be an additional Viewport in the menu called - Create Multiple viewports, I wonder what that is going to be or work?
  2. Yeah, the "clip cube" by Kevin Lee Allen seems to be good, this is the best feature yet for me. It could also indicate live sections as it seems to be a similar principle or could be a usable alternative to live sections? I didn't get the benefits or the concept of the "Detail viewport" by Bill Knight either. I guess I must be missing something. Seems to be like the Normal Viewport only with additional annotations added to the viewport, similar to those you get with the section viewports, anybody see the benefits to this one?
  3. LOL... I guess we are a difficult mob to please! Like probably most people here, I spend most of my time using Vectorworks and have high expectations of what it can do... I just wish it would get to where I want it to be right now, a lot quicker....nothing wrong with a bit of scrutiny and tough love!
  4. I wonder if that is it for teasers this week?, it has been over 24hrs since the last video.
  5. Oh I thought it was part of the symbol...that is very disappointing!!!
  6. I like that one! That will save a lot of time, wonder it it works with The EAP command too I presume it would?
  7. True I guess that is not quite right, :-) There are levels of features that can be purchased within Vectorworks but VW is still aiming for the small practices. The full version of Revit is not intended to be marketed to the small practices and therefore has much better features for larger practices e.g. multi user collaboration, better facilities for producing pictorial window schedules etc. This is what i meant by grow into.....maybe Vectorworks could grow into Archicad? If i were a new practice shopping around, this stepping of levels of software progression would be appealing. Maybe Vectorworks and Archicad could integrate and market themselves similarly...... or Vectorworks cause a revolution rather than a rather slow evolving process.
  8. The main advantage of a light version of Revit is that you/your practice can grow into the full version. With Vectorworks there is nothing to grow into, you are stuck with it as it is. As Chris said VW's target audience is small practices or sole practitioners, there is no next level. What happens when you get beyond this size you either have to make do.....until...? (I don't know the answer....either move on or wait for VW to develop further?)
  9. LOL...The beginning of the evolve has started to be written backwards, lets hope that isn't happening!
  10. Unfortunately that video failed to excite me.... actually feeling a bit depressed now after watching it... if that is the best they have got. A welcome improvement, but I was hoping for quite a few big improvements this year in Vectorworks, especially to help with modelling, like materials, live sections etc, there seems to be no additional tools on the palettes (although they might be hidden) . Maybe VW have concentrated their efforts on getting rid of the bugs and making things work as they should this year, but thats going to put them further behind the competition in the BIM race. Guess we will have to wait to the 18th and see if they have any big surprises
  11. Another feature that I would like is the ability to do a search within the notes manager database.
  12. Does anyone know if it is possible to combine the values of different spaces, using the space tool, I want to link spaces together so total areas can be shown on my drawings? for example - I have a row of terraced houses and i want to combine the Net internal area of the ground floor and first floor levels and show this annotation with the unit number, total area etc. on the ground floor plan only, does anyone know if this is possible?
  13. Yeah, thats what we need. You should add that to the wish list with those videos.
  14. I have a double monitor set up as well the main monitor is 24" screen so you could show a couple of views on this alone if the split across 2 monitors isn't great. (which is probably all I would need). The multiple view option would be a great benefit because you can work on live section and see what is happening on a live elevation, particularly useful for window, extract placements etc. the idea of seeing these views together would be a great benefit. Rather than the cumbersome way you have to check using Vectorworks i.e changing view and constantly updating viewports.
  15. [One could say that Revit is a user friendly database while Vectorworks is a user friendly 3D modeler with a user unfriendly database attached..... I don't think that it is as user friendly of a modeler as it should be, however I think it has potential. As Chris D has highlighted, these particular features and capabilities of Revit: - Live Sections - Multiple model views open - Building materials (not 2D Hatches) - Work Sets and Work Sharing seem very appealing! (as well as the others features mentioned).
  16. This really frustrates me. The Notes manager callout has a very small sections in Database window and I cannot find a way to adjust it. I wish this could be set so it shows at least 3 times as much. Better still have the ability to set this up however I want.
  17. You could try contacting manufacturers and asking for their products in CAD format. e.g. http://www.vitra.com/
  18. The slabs where still bound just not showing correctly but i just re-bound them. I cheated a little bit due to time constraints by adding a concrete mask on annotations layer to a couple of the joins. I constantly seem to reconnect slabs every time i make drawing issues anyway to avoid this?
  19. Thanks again Peter
  20. Using a sloped door for under a stair. Does anybody know how to slope the door the other way? i.e door opens from the left outwards. I need it to show correctly on both section and plans, I can't find a way of doing this?
  21. Thanks bc. It is something about the none class that is causing the problems for some reason. I have moved everything on the none class to other classes and turned it off this seems to resolve the problem and dramatically reduces the file size as well. The problem now is that wall cut outs and slab connections have all disconnected. I think Vectorworks wants to kill me you solve one problem then it attacks you with something else, all these problems happening, busting the gut working long evenings and weekends to make up the time lost resloving Vectorworks inadequacies and stress levels of missing deadlines is not good.
  22. Does anybody know why I am having problems with PDF exports? I assume that it is a problem with the export process itself. The sheet layer seems fine but when I export to PDF for printing, lines in the background show up. Unfortunately I am missing deadlines for this project that I am working on, because of issues like this, thought that i had solved everything now i am having difficulties trying to extract the 2D information from Vectorworks. I would appreciate any suggestions of possible solutions
  23. Changing the settings in the navigation palette>references>settings... and then change the design layer viewport to layer import worked. I now at least have something to trace over.
  24. Just wondering how others extract details from their modelled building? It seems that the file that i am working on doesn't work with workgroup references which is really annoying, it is very buggy, the section viewports of the referenced file has classes and components missing. I want to have the details in a separate file than the model, as the file is already very large. (I use a VPN for connecting to the main office for uploading and downloading files therefore i want to keep files as small as possible). The other other option I can think of is use the original file do the detail and then copy and paste over to the detail folder. Has anyone got any other suggestions?
  25. This is a must, I am also spending too much time working around this deficiency.
