  1. Anybody know why I am getting these lines showing through the PDF of my elevations? This has meant I have missed another deadline for my office. It shows correctly on the sheet view but when i do a batch PDF export this is what happens.
  2. oops...It was class related after all, home time i think!
  3. Nope that didn't work. I thought it had for a second, i had project screen objects unticked it showed briefly and just disappeared again when i updated the viewport.
  4. I created a recessed meterbox symbol which is set into the external walls. It doesn't show in the SLVP but when I click into the DLVP it shows up fine. This is baffling me. (It is not class related) Anybody know why this might be?
  5. Anybody know if this half baked feature has been sorted out yet in 2013? I am just about to start the process of adding different revision numbers to over 100 drawings it would help to know if they fixed this bug.
  6. What a waste of time.... so it is useless for making window schedules then!
  7. +1 seems silly they haven't transferred the options within the stair tool to handrail tool. It would also be good if : - they could create a continuous link between the top and bottom of stair handrails to the handrail tool. - have the ability to have changes in direction with the handrail tool or at least be able to connect ends like you do with the walls.
  8. Yeah, I wish I hadn't! Like everyone else has posted, I think it is related to the autosave and this is probably why my most recent backups are corrupt (if i go to my next backup it is usually ok). So the scenario when i get these crashes seems to be: when I have more than one file open and autosave is on. Please fix this, this is really frustrating!
  9. What version of Vectorworks are you using? I think the parametrics is best...but, the really frustrating thing is there are many options of how to do things but no designated VW workflow, so it takes a while to grasp how everything works and lots of trail and error along the way to see what works and doesn't. The Vectorworks YouTube videos help and if you are signed up to the VSS they also have quite a few useful videos their too, (there are also a number of VW trainers if you want to go down this route).
  10. Just had Vectorworks crash after updating to 2012 SP5, I went to get my back up copy and now the hatches have disappeared from the backup of my file, they show in design layer but not the sheet layer viewport. I suggest that Vectorworks remove this video This is far too problematic of a way of putting hatches onto Elevations....especially extracting this information in viewports. I am constantly having problems of planar objects not showing correctly and there are far too many problems with this to be an efficient workflow!
  11. Looks like I am getting frequent crashes now since updating to SP5. (Surprisingly I didn't have many problems with SP4 crashing) The crashing happens when I have more than one file open and switch from one file to another. Anybody else experiencing this yet?
  12. +1 Yes, please let us show the sections through the stair ends how they should be constructed! Here is a link to a precast concrete manufacturer in the UK you may wish to have a look at for some different scenarios: http://www.bison.co.uk/knowledgebase/downloads/product-details/
  13. Just came across this issue today, thanks for posting this Deiter & Christiaan that solved my problem. A concrete stair should have its class and fill set by default to show concrete, sometimes I wonder how VW logic works! (Maybe that is an upgrade for the future )
  14. Thanks Vincent, I didn't see that thread, that works for the benchmarks and levels. But did you ever get this to work vertically? I got this image from the internet (I think it is a Revit image) this is what i am looking to achieve and how we normally show the vertical section lines. I think my only option is to show these on the annotations layer! Thanks for the feedback guys!
  15. That seems to be a reoccurring answer!
  16. Thanks, the only thing that worries me about showing them on the annotations layer is that you have to do that for each sheet layer, make sure that it is accurately aligned in each instance, and then hope the structural engineer doesn't want to move the positioning about.
  17. I guess I could draw vertical lines from the end of my grid lines, this will save me showing it in on each annotation layer
  18. I have just drawn the structural grid lines for the project I am working on a plan view in 2D, Is there an easy way to turn this into a 3D grid? currently I am thinking of creating a number of 3D loci at each end of the grids and then snap to these points on the annotations layer to create the grid lines for the sections. Anybody got any other suggestions?
  19. Great, so there still might be a chance for my top 3 then  1. Materials 2. Live sections 3. Improved window and door tool and schedules
  20. Thanks, So they only have one more to come.....I thought these where the warm ups before they started to show the good stuff..... Looks like i am going to be very disappointed with 2013 then!
  21. How do VW normally release the Preview videos. Do they normally release videos towards the end of each week or is it sporadic? I assume they have some architect/building designer beta testers? it would be interesting to see what their best bits of 2013 would be!
  22. Thanks Vincent good to get some feedback on the differences Yeah i dislike AutoCad, but thats because Vectorworks was a far easier product to use to produce 2D drawings, seems it has lost this advantage when adapting to a 3D workflow. Was thinking that Revit may actually be more intuitive than VW, as it set up for 3D, but guess it has its disadvantages/workarounds too. I presume once these hybrids have been set up you can take them from project to project, so extra work at the beginning but will pay off later? Yeah that would be annoying, our projects are mainly new build housing with the very occasional refurbishment. What about overlaying other consultants 2D drawings over your files, I presume this can still be done? I suppose a lot of it comes down the needs of the practice you work for and the workflows within those offices. The risk that i can see staying with Vectorworks is Revit will develop further and further ahead, and I am not sure if VW will ever catch up in time. Clients will expect the same level of information that those using Revit will offer, and then we won't be as competitive as an office. Good job I don't have the decision making responsibility when it comes down to software, I can just continue to grumble with the tools VW provide.
  23. I think your workaround is the best, but you can also reshape the 3D walls on an elevation view, this how i have done this previously however this is a lot more complicated especially without live sections (lots of switching on and off classes). Thanks going to try this your way the next time this occurs.
  24. Hi Vincent, Obviously the office you are in doesn't rate Revit very highly. What are the main reasons for the dislike? Everyone that I know that uses it always sings its praises, so I have always thought it to be a superior product. Would be interesting hearing your take on it coming from a VW background.
