  1. This sounds a lot like the problem I am having here: http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=35957&Number=177428#Post177428 SP1 better work some wonders!
  2. Thanks for the responses. I don't think it's good enough to accept having to finish a project in its original version given the hectic release schedule and promised benefits of VSS. That being said there are some positive signs.... As an update to the issue I can confirm that this particular problem is Machine specific in our office. Only one machine (mine) has trouble with the file. I am able to carry out all steps of referencing on the other machines.
  3. Ok his one might take a bit of explaining but here we go. I have been modelling up a 3 storey building in 2012 using layers to separate Grid, Slabs, Floors & Roof. The main drawing (The model file) is used as the base for all other detailed drawings which are created with viewports and annotations and title blocks. It is important that drawings are separated into a number of files for other staff to work on concurrently. So we have "Model files" and "Drawing Files" as a workaround to concurrent drawing. In 2012 this worked well and all of our drawings are set up in this fashion, it enables multiple people to detail up a job using a central model file. But... After converting the project from 2012 to 2013 using batch convert there is an issue with referencing. Some layers within the model can be referenced while others cannot. i.e. the "Grid" layer works fine but the "Floor Plan" layers fail. The attached PDF illustrates the problem. It is a high resolution PDF so you can zoom in to see the screen grabs. I have tried to turn off all the classes when creating the viewport to try and isolate any objects in the failing layers that may be causing the problem. This did not work as the program crashed as soon as I selected the Floor Plan layer as active in the viewport.
  4. Vincent, many thanks for helping on this one. I was afraid it would be a bug. The more I develop these projects in 3d the more apparent it becomes that I need something like WinDoor.
  5. I have uploaded the two files here: Thanks, Lee
  6. See attached for a section cut that is showing some objects beyond the cut. This only happens in the high detail render options. i.e. in open gl the problem does not occur. Any advice on why this might be happening
  7. Hi, I am struggling to resolve an issue with the sills on my windows. When the window is inserted into a wall, the plan detail offsets the sill lines. See attached for the plan details of the window inserted into the wall and sitting on its own. I have also included the settings for the sill of this window. Any help on this would be great!
  8. I have used the wall recess tool in the past as a workaround for this problem. See attached - the window object is on Level 2 and there is a wall recess object on level 1. The 2d representation on level 1 can be whatever you like as it just needs to show up when you produce a VP plan. There are also option in the wall recess object to control what is shown in plan - i.e. "no break", "full break with caps", "full break without caps"

Afraid this makes no difference to the problem.

    Shadows

My issue is that the 3d objects project shadows onto a plane lower than their base. I cannot seem to get the ground plane (the plane on which my shadows are cast) to match the base of my 3d drawings. There is no issue with lining up 2d objects in elevation. To help illustrate this issue I have set up a drawing of a 3d cube, added the heliodon tool and as you can see the shadow is cast lower than the base of the cube making it appear as if floating in mid-air over the ground plane. Turning to elevation the heliodon object and the base of the cube are at the same level (y=0). This lead me to look at the point light tool and as you can see in the attached file using this method places the shadows in the correct location. It seems to me that either I am missing some option/ setting in the Heliodon tool or that this is a genuine bug for the tool. I hope this better explains the problem?

    Shadows

Hi this is still not working for me. How can I see the ground plane settings? Is it the case that the ground plane will always be set to "0" when looking in elevation? I started a new drawing with a simple extruded box and am still having the same problem. Could it be that the Heliodon settings are not correct. Also I don't have "ground plane" as a pre-set working plane.

I'm not really sure how to set the ground plane?
  13. I have an insulated block external wall that alternates in finish from a projecting copper rainscreen and rendered surface. I would like to show a small return of copper mid-wall. See attached screen grab. Is there any way to do this short of manually drawing in the 3d surface?

    Shadows

Is there any way to get ground shadows to project onto an object that can be set at the correct level? I have attached a snapshot of the issue I am having with the shadows. Currently the shadow projection is offset from the building. i.e. the shadow cast by my supporting columns seems to go through the ground. Any help on this would be great!
  15. Hi, I have been experiencing a problem with spaces over multiple stories. Basically the spaces on first and second floor seem to be tracking the geometry on the ground floor. See the attached extracts at ground, first and second floors. Is there a setting I have to adjust to ensure that the spaces track only the geometry on their own layer?
  16. OK so I will just conclude that on a school project with 200+ rooms the spaces tool is useless. Very annoying. There has to be some improvement on this tool as it promised to be one of the major benefits in using Vectorworks on Education projects, where occupancy data plays a key role in developing the scheme.
  17. I have experienced a strange problem when inserting doors while the wall settings are set to hide detail. After door insertion the solid fill to the leading side of the door vanishes. Any help on this problem would be great. See attached for before and after shots.
  18. Well I've had a go at turning off as much information as possible before editing the spaces and the problem remains. I wonder if there is some hidden option that I have checked that is causing this problem. I have tried this file on a number of hi-spec machines in the office. Does anyone else have these problems using spaces? Does anyone else use spaces?
  19. Hi, I am having real trouble with the space tool. Our building is about 350 rooms and I have used the paint bucket tool to auto-create spaces to walls. The trouble is the speed of the tool and especially the speed of updating the boundaries after wall changes. It takes my machine upwards of 10 minutes to compute the change. A screen grab is attached FYI. As you can see the change in area is minimal but clicking "update boundary" from the OIP sends my machine into cardiac arrest. PLEASE HELP!
  20. I have a question regarding the default content in VW 2011. I have created some clean content libraries for hatches and gradients that I want to load into all drawings started in our office. I have set this up with success however the "out of box" default content is still mixed in with my custom hatches and gradients. Is there any way to purge all of the default content that comes with VW2011 so that only the information I have set up in the "Libraries" folder shows when I start a new drawing? p.s. see attached screen capture of the default gradients that I need to expel from the libraries. Cheers,
  21. OK installing SP5 for VW2011 seems to have resolved the issue. So the tool is now working.
  22. I have run into trouble with the custom stair tool. I cannot get Vectorworks to bring up the custom stair settings dialogue box. 1) I have tried pressing the preferences button when inserting a new stair 2) I have tried using the "settings" button on the OIP when an existing stair is selected. 3) I have tried to use menu item Modify>Edit custom stair when an existing stair is selected. The script that brings up the custom stair dialogue box seems to fail. I have attached screen dumps of methods 1) and 2). Anyone else had this problem - or similar problems with scripts that seem to fail? Cheers.
  23. Thanks guys. It was the OIP that was not set correctly.
  24. I am having trouble getting some of the object drawn in plan to show up correctly in 3d (isometric view) I'm sure this is something to do with the Plane settings however I cannot find where I am going wrong. See attached images where I have drawn a coloured rectangle in plan. The second image shows in isometric view that the rectangle is not located on the layer plane with the rest of the drawings. I have checked that the active layer plane is selected when drawing the rectangle.
