  1. thanks williams7. tried your trick, works the same on my machine.i when a bit farther: since we will want to place the multicircuit unit somewhere , we might want to rotate it. tried it. rotated right unit right 90, L and part of center did not move. double clicked pan or zoomed and they followed.ok.but when i tried to do the process in reverse to bring it back, o boy! what a mess! also, since there is usually multiple occurances of that multicircuited unit in a plot, i tried to do a symbol of that o boy! another can of worms. bottom line, multicircuit does not work properly for me, could someone at nemetschek give us a feedback as to probable cause.
  2. thanks william 7 for the advise. even if it did not work for me, it gave me a lead.i multicircuited 3 instruments, i selected the Right ins. and moved it. what it moved was the Right ins. plus a part of the Center unit. but when i tried to select the rest of Center unit or Left unit no go.then i selected all 3 and voila!!! the selection handles of L and C appeared in line with the symbol of R, but the drawings of L and part of C are elswhere. then if i do a zoom in and zoom out in succession ( it redraws the whole thing) , L and part of C moved to where they should of moved. since it is evident that this is not the way multicircuit should function, is it a platform thing or a vw thing? i have a G4. mac os 9.2.2 and vw sl 10.1.2 what have you got william 7?
  3. i tried again to apply the multicircuit thing, by reading the book. the help file, etc... , still can't get it to work.it will not move as stated:" as a single unit" let's see: i create 3 objects. .with each i create a symbol, one right, one left and one center. i then insert the symbols and convert each to a light instrument. i set them in proximity of each other and select all of them and define them as multicircuit.then i clic on one instrument and move it. it moves and rips part of the instrument next to it to move with it. i don't think that qualifies as "moves as a single unit" if there is something i am doing wrong, please point it out to me!
  4. sorry it took so long to come back. no martin it stays individual instruments, not as a single as it should be.
  5. since i updated to sl 10.1.2, i do not get the error messages i use to get in 10.1.0 . but i still don't have a multicircuit instrument.i have read the book and the help file but no result. help!!!
  6. since a lightplot is an instrument of communication, -on the one hand, to the people who are doing the work: wouldn't it be nice if, in sl the instrument schedule gave the delta x value(relative to center) of a lamp so that the stagehands could hang the instrument at the right place. -on the other hand, for the people doing the actual lightplot, wouldn't be nice if we could visualize a zoom instrument, spot or flood or in between a fresnel, or see a par as an oval; without having to duplicate an instrument x amount of times + then edit its values (not at all a user friendly). -wouldn't it be nice if i could draw a truss that stands up vertical to the floor. -wouldn't it be nice if the oip could be modifiable
  7. thanks, after consulting various forums, and peoples, it looked like the same problem i and others had with 951 to 952 to 953. so i extracted what i wanted to keep in my 10.1.0, trashed it. then reinstalled a new copy. i guess it was because i had moved the file out of the application folder , because i found it in there(finally). ran the update. now it works. i swear i will never never again touch the vw folder again. so at least that problem is fixed
  8. system is g4, os 9.2.2. i have sl 10.1.0 today i tried updating to 10.1.2 and got a installation successful notice. WHY am i still running 10.1.0
  9. i want to be able to print a report where i will find the x value( position) relative to center of a lamp on a specific pipe. i would also like to see a par 64 beam which is natural i.e. OVAL.of course it would have to rotate. i would like to be able to vary the size of a beam without having to do multiple copies of a lamp and edit its parameters.
  10. i had the same orsimilar problem. go back to the labl edit, go left of the work space , about 256 feet. that where i found them, select and drag em back. hope that helps
  11. that is what i had understood. i feel reassured that my comprehension of english is not that bad. let say that i have an FOH made up of 24 zoom units, 6 for a cool wash (3*2), 6 for a warm wash, a pair of 3 at each end for a fan across stage and 6 specials. that means that i need at least 11 edited duplicates of that instrument to see if my focus intentions are sound. to me, it would be much more efficient and labour saving if i could access the ins.and resize the beam directly.any chance of this being added to the wish list?
  12. ok i understand now. to get an accurate count, i have to input that info. On page 4-5, it says that circuit number indicates where ins. is plugged. since i have no data as to what circuit is available where, isn't misleading and counter productive in some cases to input a abstract value? would it be possible to automate a transfert of the instrument unit number to that field? or better yet, should not the summary be a result of a count of different channel numbers , taking into account wattage of ins. and capacity of circuit/dimmer.
  13. os 9.2.2 on G4 tower at 933mhz, 512meg. ram with vw sl 10.1.0 yes, sometimes it happens as you describe it. And at other times, it's as i have described it. It happens my way when i have just imported the thing and edited it for the first time. if i have edited it before , i can't reproduce the behavior i have describe and it behaves like you say.
  14. I define a focus point, i select a lamp and define it's focus point, and click the draw beam. What i get is 2 cones, one inside the other that relate to the beam and field values of light info record of that lamp. Now, if i want the lamp to cover a specific area and have a drawing of it. i would have to edit the symbol's light info record in the resource palette and apply that new info to the lamp i'm working on, shouldn't i? but then the base values of that instrument are changed for every new usage of that light symbol, is it not? so how do i focus ( point and ajust the beam) for each lamp? and i hope your not going to tell me it's with the gobo projecter thing
  15. Since i can't access the light info records of any lamp in the OIP data pane,( or can i ?) the only way i have found is by the book :to choose the symbol in the resource browser, make it active and choose edit. Once i'm in the edit window i have to deselect the object in the window and the info should be in the data pane of the OIP. well!!!!! -if the object in the edit window was not selected, i should have it -but if the object was selected i have to deselect it, reselect and deselect to get the info? is it something i don't understand ?
  16. I have a valid light position, 24 lamps on it with a label legend that works (different channel numbers, unit numbers and colors show up). The lamps have the right light position info ( name, z value). Every thing is there. But when i select the light position summary for circuits, i get 1 circuit needed and 23 tofers.
  17. thank you .now i understand the logic of it. and yes it does highlight. being first a visuel person, my focus is always on the drawing ie workspace. i assumed incorrectly that i was still in it. - since there was no visuel cue to the fact that i was not in the workspace, it always looks the same anyway - even if there is a visuel cue to the fact that i'm in a palette
  18. good to know it's a knowed problem.i have vw spot 10.1.0 . as i posted later last night, i finally found them 236' left of origin. i tried to make an other legend with 4 labels this time, when to edit layout and reset origin in that window, and no go, closed it and reopened it still no go. but why is the legend name show both names one over the other
  19. thank you for clearing the confusion i had. i guest it comes from the fact that in other programs, when i change something in a PALETTE and confirm that change, i default back to the workspace. as in vw spot when i go to the oip or the resource palette for that matter i am not in the workspace anymore. there being no visuel clue to the fact that i am not in the workspace, which by the way would be nice, i assume incorrectly that it was as elsewhere. thank you for your time
  20. i wrote earlier that the labels in the ins. label manager edit window where not there. in fact they are, there 236' left of the place they should be. do i get my bug chaser's t-shirt for this?
  21. try this, make a straight horizontale line.go to the oip and resize the length. press enter to make it so. now try nudging the line or zooming the worksheet. NO GO ! is that normal behavior.to be able to nudge or zoom , you have to select the select tool and reselect the line, or if you did not hit enter, yu have to select the select tool, select the line , now it becomes the resized you wanted to see and it can be nudged .... to me it would be logical that when i choose an object and modify its attributes, that object is still available to me to continue doing what i need to do with it and not have to reselect it. or did i miss something in the book again?
  22. i swear i read the book this time.i made the 2d and 3d objects, i created the hybrid symbol and checked that it did display in 2d and 3d, and it did. mind you it would of saved time if the graphical representation of how to make a 3d showed the right hand half of the object to be seeped and not the left side, but i did learn something new in the vw bible so... anyway, i converted my symbol to a lightning ins. and then went to page a3 of the spotlight book to see about attaching a light info record.did it by the book, until i hit the instruction" 2- select the new symbol, and select organize>edit symbol" its funny but in 10.1.0 i don't have that menu "edit symbol" did i miss something here? when to the nna tech board and checked out the topics and their was a solution. great that sums up about 8 hours of time i have spend on a detail and idid read the book ! is there light at the end of the ...
  23. it's the same problem as another guy came up some time ago but i can find the solution he got.i have these light ins. on a plot. i wamt to make a label legend. i open the label manager, choose addand name it, then choose what i want in it, then i want to edit the layout. sofar so good .hit the edit layout and there is the lamp but where are my labels???
  24. SYSTEM OS9.2 ON G-4, DESKJET 932C AND 1220C.VW 9.5.3 WITH HP DRIVER 4.3 IF I PRINT ON THE 932 I GET COLOR, IF I PRINT ON THE 1220, I CAN GET COLOR ONLY IN LETTER FORMAT. IF I WANT TABLOID FORMAT IT GIVES ME LETTER FORMAT. I CAN'T GET IT TO GIVE ME TABLOID EVEN AFTER I CHOSE TABLOID IN PAGE SET UP (99.9% OF THE TIME). IF I USE THE HP DRIVER 3.2 I GET TABLOID FORMAT BUT NO COLOR.
