  1. If you rotate a side light - CMD-L - the purpose & color information flips top to bottom. If I go into the label legend manager and select non-rotating and then rotate the instrument using either the modify - rotate menu, or CMD L - to rotate the instrument 180' (not flip) all the information on the instrument, except instrument number, is in the wrong place. Instead of purpose and color in front of the instrument they are way above - and channel number is way below, instead of behind the instrument. I tried this with at least 7 different instruments, with two different label legends, both set as as non-rotating and got the same results with the information being in weird locations. ????
  2. A label legend will be with the document you created it in and it should be the "active" legend until you create more than one - then you can set which one you want active when inserting instruments. There is a way to export them, but I started by creating a "master" document that includes all my label legends, stage, lighting positions, lights, etc. then I just rename it to the show and edit from there. Depending on what kind of work you do you can modify the idea. I work in a single theatre mostly so when I go to another spece I have found I can still use my master, just means more modifying. Jim

    Newbie

beams orginate where a lamp would be in an instrument. Are you using the floor tool to create a floor? You need to have the lights and floor on the same layer. Jim
  4. Since I haven't gotten my plotter yet, I print out on letter size (gives me 12 pages), then I trim and tape together. If purchasing would get the PO processed my hell would be over!!! :-(
  5. Have you tried the modify - rotate - rotate - menu? That is how I rotate objects. It lets you enter to degree of rotation and it appears to be correct rotation, but I don't work in such close tolerances.
  6. Kevin, "CMD L" twice to go 180' is rotating I know. As I said - If you rotate the instrument (a side light) the purpose & color information flips top to bottom. If I go into the lable legend manager and select non-rotating and then rotate the instrument using either the modify - rotate menu, or CMD L - to rotate the instrument 180' (not flip) all the information on the instrument, except instrument number, is in the wrong place. Instead of purpose and color in front of the instrument it is way above - and channel number is way below instead of behind the instrument. I tried this with at least 7 different instruments, with two different label legends, both set as as non-rotating and got the same results with the information being in weird locations. ????
  7. jim - five doesn't seem like that many Kevin, not true - IE: side light SR with color on top and purpose on bottom in front of the instrument. Rotate - "CMD L" twice to go 180' and the color is on the bottom and purpose is on top. Non rotating is not enabled.
  8. I create label legends for each orientation of my instruments SL sides, SR sides, FL, DL, Bk Lt, etc. That keeps the information the way I want it for each type.
  9. I did some more playing over Thanksgiving. I placed a focus point (height 5') then focused a S-4 Par to that point and placed it directly over the focus point at 24'. I also tried a Shakespeare 40'. when I rendered them I got perfect circles!!.Try playing with it with "draw beam" on, that will help you to see what is happening to the beam as you move the instrumant around. What I suggest is to make a copy of the plot, and take a couple of different instruments and play around to see if it is the particular type of instrument?? You can reposition an emitter by ungrouping the symbol and the placing the emitter where you want it. All you need to render is the emmitter the actual instrument is not needed, but it will no longer be an insturment, and things get kinda weird so use a copy of the plot to play with.

    Vista

Be nice it someone from VW would give us some information on this. If 12.5 is not, what is the time line for a compatsble version?? Anyone from VW there??
  11. I have heard about the potential problems with hardware and have been looking at the issues. I bought my laptop with a Vista upgrade option. I would assume the the VW people are aware that Vista is coming out and should be able to tell us about whether 12.5 is compatable with Vista, or give us a timeline about upgrade compatability. Anybody at VW there????
  12. Is VW 12.5 compatable with Vista???

    Vista

Anyone know if VW 12.5 is compatable with Vista?
  14. Interesting, I tried it after I read your message, your right, I haven't done a direct downlight in a rendering before. My guess is that you might have to do a bit of offset on the downlight, or possiblely relocate the transmitter to the front of the instrument?
  15. I would download the 12.5 update and see if that fixes it. 12.5 fixed a bunch of problems but I don't recall hearing your problem in 12.
  16. You could go back far into the spotlight posts and see if there was a thread about your problem. You should get 11.5 at least if you can still download it from VW. Not sure anyone is still on V11. Highly recommend V12.5, if you can afford it, V12 solved many problems.
  17. When you insert the instrument are you clicking on the instrument insert tool before you insert the instrument? When you right click on the instrument and select edit then click the light information tab there should be an intensity slider.
  18. you need to be using at least V12, I believe, to be able to set intensities. It is in the edit window where you turn the light on and off
  19. David, What I did for a column in a set design. Created the 'skin' with the Round Wall Tool with its thickness set to - your preference, extrude to the height you need, and then apply the (in my case it was a stone) texture. Rendered fine for me. Could it be a problem with your texture?
  20. Thanks Steve, I took a look and, not a shameless pitch, your stuff looks great. I am working in one house pretty much. I gave the creating a position a try and - gosh!! I got it right!!. All my pipes are 50 or 60' so I only needed to create two symbols. You already starting on the summer??
  21. when you inserted the instruments did you use the instrument insertion tool in the SL menu? What platform, version, operating system, etc are you using??
  22. Try http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
  23. Right click the instrument and get the edit window of the instrument, click on light information tab, you will see "light on" and intensity (brightness in VW).
  24. Hey Mr. T :-) It is a bit of work. I would think that close to 90% of lighting positions are 1 1/2" pipes, and like instruments VW could supply a couple default 3-D lighting positions, 1 horizontal, 1 verticle, that we could edit??
