  1. Ok But with all the changes that were made to the program creating a little more usefull titleblock for spotlight would have been nice. A basic Spotlight titleblock: Show Name Venue Designer Scale Date Drawn BY Those with more specific needs could add to the basic one.
  2. David Thanks. Been looking for awhile for the key. The way they moved everything around :-( Are there directions in the manual to help create a custom workspace? Sounds like the way to go, but I have gotten so gun shy about changing anything in 12. I have been using this program since Mini-Cad something, in 1992 and this new version has been the biggest mess up of a good program... I still have not figured out how 12 is better than 11.5 except for correcting some bugs, and it cost a bunch to get. Have you solved the titleblock issue? Jim
  3. Kevin, You suggested I: Look up "Creating a Custom Title Block" in the online help. It will guide you throught the process of creating the title block and show you how to set up the text linked to record for the symbol so the fields in the OIP will work correctly. Basically you make a symbol of your title block and then use the text linked to record comand to automate the process, Kevin, I am confused - there are titleblocks for other VW products - ARCH, ASME - the ASME and ARCH titleblock has a bunch of fields specifically for them Why do I have to go through 25 steps to create on that will work for LDs???!!! couldn't you guys just reset the fields in the Spotlight titleblock you offer to reflect whet LDs (USITT) really need? Show Name Venue Designer Scale Date Drawn BY And maybe 3 open fields for misc stuff instead of the one you offer now?? and title it USITT???
  4. Worked Thanks Any chance you have found an instrument key for a light plot yet?
  5. To extrude a 2-d object - the command is in the Model menu (You select the rectangle and then extrude it. It will ask for how many inches you want to extude it to and then you will have a 3-D object.
  6. David, Thanks I will try it. Have you found an instrument key yet??
  7. Tried switching - NO JOY
  8. I haven't tried switching will try it but have tried everything else!!!
  9. Still cannot correct this problem!!!!!
  10. I had a similar problem with using gobos - had an instrument slected on another layer and all the info would change in every instrument on the other layer. I am in 12 there is a thread about this. Jim
  11. Kevin, I will give it it a try. What happened to - if it isn't broken don't fix it - the old Title block was so easy, now everything seems to require one to jump through so many hurdles !! :-( Jim
  12. Sure jtallen24@cablespeed.com I am on a PC platform, so if the problem is with the Mac version it won't show up on mine but I will take a look Jim
  13. What version and platform? I am on V12 on a PC I just placed a light (at 20') and focus point at 5' Went to edit instrument and turned beam on, set it to focus point A. The beam showed up in top plan view and when I went to standard view - right - I saw the beam in profile. If you are looking to render a light, you need to be sure you have a floor placed on the layer at 0"Z that you have the instrument and focus point - all of these need to be on the same layer to render lights. Also you need to be sure your rendering settings are as specified in the renderworks manual. this help??
  14. Does anyone know how one creates a title block?? especially without a border... The title block for Spotlight in VW12 doesn't have a place for the information we need IE: USITT recommendations - ? Name of the producing organization ? Name of the production ? Name of the venue ? Drawing title ? Drawing number (i.e., ?1 of 4?) ? Predominant scale of the drawing ? Date the plate was drafted ? Designer of the production ? Draftsperson of the drawing ....the stuff we need for our drawings. I know that you can't put everything in, but one would think if they were going to put in a title block for Spotlight it would be one that is close to the above USITT standards. I can't find any info in the manuals about how to create a new title block???
  15. Right click the instrument and select properties - you can set the Z of the instrument to get it up in the air. The focus point is set at 5' you can set the height when you insert it, or you can change it in the same way - rt click and proerties
  16. I was happily - well sort of - working along and then something I did caused the "Basic Tools" menu to expand all the way across the top of my screen and I will be damned if I find a way to put it back on the left side of the screen like is was I now have the top 1/3 of my screen cut off by the menu. With the way all these menus intrude into the workspace they should make one of the minimum requirement of the program a 19" monitor!!!!
  17. Does anyone know how to set up a lable legend for an instrument that is not facing upstage or down stage??? I am trying to set up a sidelight instrument and CANNOT figure out how to align the information blocks so they will be in front of the instrument. Something has changed in this menu from previous versions!!! Figuring out this program is mind numbing!!!!!
  18. Kevin, Also you realize there is nothing in the Spotlight users guide about title and key blocks Accoring to the Spotlight (Key to instrumentation) manual I go to the Spotlight> utilities>key to instrumentation But WOW there is nothing like this on my screen. 1) there is no spotlight menu to select 2) the only utilities I can find is in the tools menu and there is no key to... listed in that menu But from what I can see from the manual this not the Instrument Key I am expecting from previous versions of VW
  19. Hey anyone find out how to just insert a title block or instrument key without a border???
  20. I don't want a border just a title block and instrument key - so how do I do that??
  21. I cannot find the title and key block insertion tools. Anyone know where they went???
  22. Kevin, It was updating the other instruments on the set layer also - not just the one on the lighting layer that was selected. So it appears that if I have an instrument selected on the lighting layer ALL instruments - selected or not, on the set layer will change if you edit information for an instrument on the set layer ???? Additionally when I insert new instruments into the set layer they will have information placed into them that reflects what is in instruments already on the set layer without doing anything except inserting them and converting them to instruments!! This will not happen when I insert instruments into the lighting layer. Also why is the information being change in the "edit instrument" window not being reflected in the "instrument properties" window? Thanks Jim
  23. Does anyone know how to set the scale for a new drawing - all layers at the same time? Or does one have to edit each individual layer??
