  1. I agree with Pat. 18gig is not that much. I am running a MBP M1 Max 64gb for 1.5b years now and i have a lot of huge and detailed files that i mostly work in 3d on. That works pretty pretty good in comparison to the intel i9 machine i used before that. in other words - no comparison. not sure what the M3 processor will bring in performance but i think the main benefit in real is as much ram as possible will get every Mx machine more healthy...
  2. As soon as you define a record field that contains a pop-up entry and you list the result in a worksheet you will get drop down menues in which you can alter the value. Same applies to title blocks and generating a worksheet for reporting your plans.
  3. Different object types have different options to works with. So referring to your screenshot sit might be interesting to see what object types you are modeling with.
  4. Thanks Tom. I expected this to work different. I was thinking, that when i reference a symbol from an external file (my led library) and the reference is out of date, that everything is updated. I made a test in the library file. I inserted a symbol into the drawing and changed a value in the RM. Then i dropped the symbol again. The new one has the new value, whereas the first keeps the old. But when in doubleclick the first symbol and nothing is activated, in the data tab the new value can be seen? So it seems, that when a symbol with predefined values is inserted it looses a kind of connection to the predefined set?
  5. I am using a referenced symbol that has a record format attached in the source file. When it´s placed in my new drawing the records follow. When i change an entry in the source document of that symbol it shows up that my reference is out of date. After updating the reference i can see in the RM that the entry of the record has changed, but all symbols that are placed as instances of the referenced symbol still show the old entry in the record, that i changed. Why does that entry not update automatically? screenshot of the symbol in the RM this is the record entry after updating the reference
  6. I am trying to get the following done. I often have to construct sub-structures for i.e. led modules. Mostly i use profiles from a company called ITEM. For a long time i always used simple extrudes, but i want more .-) So the idea is to draw these profiles with the structural member tool using custom shapes. Simple works. But each different profile has a different weight. Ah- no problem i thought. Created a record format, attached the 2d symbols - ready set go. No. After drawing the structural members, the record information attached to the 2d symbols is lost. Then i attached the record to a new and fresh structural member, worksheet opened - ready set go - works- Cool, i´ll make a PIO of that and then i have a library of my profiles with weight and naming attached .-) PIO generated in the OIP and record still attached and the result in my worksheet. BUT - when i use the structural member tool and choose my plugin-style and draw a new element, the record information is lost. The plug-in object that is now in the recource browser - there is no option to attach a record information... What the hell am i doing wrong? Any help is appreciated... these are some of the profiles. i use simplified versions of course.-) the screenshot show what i described above. the 3rd one ist the one that was drawn with the structural member tool. the second one a copy of the first after the PIO was defined in the OIP
  7. Hi Nikolay, forgot to reply. It´s nice to have a "one click tool" but when i have to make a small change to the layout in the rack and have to generate a new worksheet i also have to reformat this. I´ll send you the file that i was working on directly about the subnumbering. But this is really only nice to have .-)
  8. I tried to follow this and inserted an light instrument, dropped the throw distance to 0, inserted a focus point and assigned the focus point to the light instrument. The throw distance then was automatically refreshed and i could see the beam... Did you do it the same way?
  9. When i use the "Make Rack Equipment Worksheet" the worksheet is created, but when i adapt something in the rack layout i have to use the tool again. It seems that the worksheet is generated only once and does not have a connection to the database. Is that working correct? In the online help this is described to work different with the ability to recalculate the worksheet and to make changes to the entries via the worksheet. I have then setup my own worksheet which works so far, but i can´t get the subnumbering into my worksheet like it is done with the vw tool. In the screenshot the left part is my own worksheet, the right show the one generated with the tool. Is there a way to do this?
  10. Works for me, but i had the same a few weeks ago with 1.1
  11. Thank you Nikolay. Then i´d make a wish to integrate a checkbox to the devices to keep their dimensions when placed into slots .-)
  12. I am using a tray to represent a oneRack from TVone. The tray is configured to 6HE and 2h and 12v slots. When i add a device, i.e. a fibre-hdmi converter, the physical dimension of that device change to the space the slot in the tray has to give. Is there any way that my devices will keep their physical dimensions as defined in the device builder? thx for any advice .-) original device device after dropped to a slot
  13. I usually always do the repair option first .-) We´ll keep an eye on that. Today it doesn´t appear. Maybe it was a small variance on the updateserver. But the TVA arranged it .-))
  14. Thanks Conrad. I´ll change the way i add devices .-) I always took or looked up existing or new devices in the device builder and inserted them into my schematics. After setting them up, where they are needed, then i gave the devices specific names... But that´s good to know the other way round that you described! thx!
  15. I recently added an audio/dante adapter with the device builder. But when it´s placed in the drawing it shows another Make and Model... The device that is written in the OIP has been added by my several days ago, but i did not use it... What might have happened or have i done wrong (despite the typo .-)) ...
  16. yes. i always let the libraries be updated. but usually the libraries get updates once or twice a month and not daily .-)
  17. Since the update 2, when i start vectorworks, there is by minimum once a day the message appearing, that the resource manager library is out of date. Also appears on windows machines in our office. Not a big issue, but does anyone else have this behaviour?
  18. Exactly as you described .-) The case was modeled in 2016 and still works down to it´s original shape .-) 250 of them have been printed in the first step and several after they have been damaged. But the ipads survived .-)
  19. The history of modeling in 3D is one of the best options insinde vw (as long as you don´t convert your model into something that does not support the history.-)). I have done several models that have been printed as 3d objects, that completely obtain their history to modify their geometry from the very first steps. I don´t know any other cad solution that provides that feature. But i think you have to differenciate between history base modeling and parametric modeling. Soliworks, Catia are, in my understanding, more parametric based. The same to Rhino in combination with Grasshopper. But these programms need a lot of knowledge to get the best for your final result and what you want to adjust. Several years ago we designed for a german car company some kind of "silver flow" architectural element, that was part of exhibition stands. That was completely done in Grasshopper and tweaked a lot of parameters. More part of a spatial component. And also several years ago, i designed an ipad cover, customized to the exhibition and clients needs, that i still can tweak from it´s basic geometry to the new meassurements compared to actuall ipad model, based on the history based modeling inside vw... attached 2 screenshot of "things" that are modeled with complete history, down to it´s original shape... printed hand that holds a small lcd screen ( luxemburg expo pavillon / dubai) ipad case for a visitor experience in vienna
  20. Hi Joseph, i wrote an email to support with the file attached and a link to the forum post related to the description. Shall i send you the project file in cc?
  21. We finally have begun to use project sharing with one of our projects. Our server is a Synology nas, fresh out of the box for 6 weeks. The project that we started with, is converted from a vwx 2022 version. The project was setup yesterday and in the afternoon the first message appeared, that the metadata size is to large and should be cleaned. The count was 99379 entities. We followed the instructions to clear the metadata and after that 2 users got the message that the working file is no longer valid to work with the project file. We generated new working files and copy-pasted the data from the old working file to the new one. So far. This afternoon the message about the increase of the metadata appeared again! This time the count is 59959 entities. The size of the project file is 150mb. Actually only 3 people are accessing this file. Two have administrative priviliges, the other one is set to project level. Vectorworks version 2024.2 Accessing machines are 2 windows pc´s with win10pro and my mcbook as in the signature. Connection to the server is set to smb only. Anything we might have done wrong or any suggestions why this happens in such short time? screenshots from yesterday screenshot from this afternoon
  22. working for me like always in vw23...
  23. Hm. The BIM related projects that we are involvolved, only rely on IFC data exchange. The BIM coordination is managed by an external company and they are checking all models from all participants. I.e. architects, structural engineers, hvac etc. They use Solibri to align all models and for collision detection and issue management. So i think there are many ways to do the job, but IFC, wether 2.3 or 4, has got defined standards that ensure a clean exchange via different cad solutions.
  24. I would always go the way of an ifc format. Revit is a proprietary format of a single manufacturer, whereas the ifc format is the official format for exchanging bim information. And the import into vectorworks is much faster than a revit file. In addition, a level of detail for geometries can be created within Revit, which cannot be influenced when importing from vectorworks. It can then happen that, for example, connecting elements between ventilation units are only displayed as individual 3d only lines, but a complete geometry is stored within revit.
  25. no, i don´t think so. viz palette does not to seem work better after repairing files. event though they stated it has been fixed with sp2 -.)
