  1. Loving 2024. Just have a few questions regarding the equipment summary key. Where has the HIDE UNUSED TYPES toggle gone? I run an ESK with hundreds of symbols loaded in order etc. Which is a huge time saver for me. Now that I can't hide the unused symbols it means I have to spend time building the key every time. Can this toggle please be brought back or is it hiding somewhere new? The news that we could display fixture modes in the equipment summary key sounded great, but it seems like it involves a huge amount of steps to get the information to display.... Download the GDTF information for the required fixture, at https://gdtf-share.com That's if the fixture has a GDTF file which I found a lot of fixtures are not on the site.... ETC Lustres..... GLP X4 bar 20 etc.... were missing.... Then I could request someone build me a file or build my own. Time consuming. When it's toggled onto SHOW GDTF MODE every symbol then gets a '1' under it, which means you have to download a GDTF file for every symbol used to make the ESK look neat. Is there a way to display the dmx footprint with mode info? That's a very useful combo. I have been copy pasting LW info onto plans to show relevant fixture mode info. Am I missing something here? Is there a simpler way? Will this get better? many thanks and a happy new year to you all....
  2. Many thanks Jesse, these are great. Much appreciated.
  3. Thanks for your reply Steve, agreed on all your points. I have purchased many of your packs over time. However as my VSS price has been increased by over 50% this year, I did think Vectorworks could pull it out and provide some accurate fixtures. The only reply from VW so far is to hurry up and wait... 'I cannot offer a timeframe for when a resolution will be released in the software.' Perhaps I will start a list of all the unsatisfactory issues that need to be resolved. As I am now paying a larger amount of money for this service I expect there to be accurate symbols, plugs ins that don't crash freeze like the instrument summary. Which when originally designed by Josh Benghiat worked perfectly, since VW took over its gone down hill to a sluggish pile of.... Of course they say a change is coming in 2024, needless to say the issues have been present for at least 3 years. Thats a long time to wait for a software fix, obviously it tells us where we sit in priorities. So will the Lustre 3 be fixed any time in the next 3 years? The fixture was released by ETC in March 2021. We are getting very close to the 3 year window. I'm curious to see how many other LD's feel this way.
  4. I know this has been mentioned before on the forums.... Could the ETC S4 Lustre series 3 symbols be drawn to show correct size and shape (721mm). You are currently using incandescent S4 symbols which are smaller (579mm). Thanks.
  5. I have similar issues. LX plan references set plan. Music stand symbols on set plan at +00mm have jumped to LX positions +6000mm on LX plan. This jump does not happen in the original set plan. Have not found a way to fix this. As mentioned above this should not happen. Makes sections look pretty stupid. Anyway a solution would be very welcome. This has been passed onto VW support and a bug filed.
  6. Hi There I am contemplating upgrading to the latest MAC OS + VW 22. I am however still on a 2018MBP with intel chip. There seems to be lost of happy M1MAX people. It would be great to get some feedback from older machines/people?
  7. I find the best way is to copy paste from Lightwright the relevant fixture information. I have however wished this feature upon VW's legend/key. Hopefully someday.
  8. I've found running the 'Purge' tool helps to speed up instrument summary.
  9. Happy NY everyone, I've placed chain motors in my drawing and then moved the origin of the drawing. Now the chain motors still reference the old origin position. I've tried redrafting the chain motor, data tags, measurement labels all have the old origin point. The OIP shows the chain motor at the new origin position. Y=+4650. The reference point further down in the OIP references 'drawing origin' with Y=-1700 which is the old origin position. Any thoughts would be most welcome. Thanks DC
  10. Hi Rob just looking for the ETC lustre series 3 symbols in VSS. The only ones I can find have a red lamp base. Sadly this red feature disappears when I have 'Gel colour as the symbol fill colour'. They end up looking like a standard S4. Is it possible to remake them so they are similar to the lustre series 2 with roman numerals? Thanks Rob......

    Side arms

The best way I have found to build booms with boom arms is to use the ladder position function. You can set individual height for horizontal pipes and you can remove one leg from your ladder. Sadly it does not count boom arms but with the time saved ( this boom took about 2 min to make) you can just count them. 6m boom.pdf
  12. Josh having just upgraded from 2020 to 2021 two days ago, the delay in the instrument summary is disconcerting. In VW 2020 it would take about five seconds to load and edit the summary, now it's closer to two minutes with VW 2021. Has there been a change to symbols that I am unaware of? Do I need to upgrade all my heritage symbols? I saw Tom's reference to inadequate lighting records. All my symbols have records. Is there a way to reload the instrument summary plug in like when it used to be your third party plug in? Hoping you can help D Just to add to this feed. Any new instrument summary made in 2021 is super fast. Any 2020 instrument summary is unbelievably slow. I guess I have to re-build my templates.
  13. Thanks Kevin, I run 2 external monitors from my 2018 15" MBP. I would like to know if egpu's may any difference to VW. If anyone has used one let me know. There has been a lot of posts on VW being incredibly slow. This may be a way to fix this issue. best DC
  14. Dear Spotlight users, has anyone used the new 'Blackmagic eGPU' with the 2018 mac book pro? I am keen to know if it helps with graphics. It mentioned it helps speed up openGL. I am sure there is a better place to post this but I do value the input of entertainment designers. Many thanks DC
  15. No have not been using Sams plug ins, however I have just used X coordinates in LW and as most units where 0.001 of a mm off the full number the paperwork started to look fairly ordinary. Easy to clean up but really just a fault of the mirror tool locking onto something ever so close to the centre line. Just need drop down menu to select the mirror reference point on the X or Y. Thanks for your time DC
  16. Hi Mark have you had any progress on this request? I was just about to put in the same one. Thanks DC
  17. Anytime Fabrice. BTW thanks for your comments on spotlights greatly needed improvements. I could not agree more! D
  18. Hi Fabrice, try holding the shift key as you click on the next lamp for repeats of the same ch number.
  19. Hi having had this issue where VW 2017 Sp3 turns off XML communication with LW, I can confirm, that I have no G drive or dropbox etc in my system. This happened to me about a dozen times. Its interesting that you say VW turns off functions when you slow down as during my interaction with VW support I have turned graphics card to 'Good performance and compatibility'. This seems to have fixed the XML issue. Very sad that my 2015 MacBook pro which has the fastest graphics card and ram that you can buy requires this to run smoothly and to allow XML communication.
  20. Dear Mickey, I have the same issue with LW6 and VW 2017. Seems to be an issue with SP3.
  21. Hi, is there a way to lock the ch and colour to the ends of the luminaries so when they rotate the ch stays near the base and the colour follows the nose? I realise I can make multiple label legends but if you could lock into the base of the lamp or the nose it would save so much time. thanks DC
