  1. Can we please have the possibility to "paste in place" layer links? It would be very useful in setting up similar drawings where the layer links have been positioned on a sheet.
  2. It would be very useful if through the object information palette a wall could be substituted with an other wall from the stored wall types.
  3. The wall tool in VWA draws a wall with the currently selected wall in the Select Wall Type Menu. It would be useful if the Select Wall Type dialogue box was available from an item on the Mode bar when the tool is selected. This would also be consistent with other tools that have settings which can be accessed in this way.

    Wall textures

Help please, I am having problems with applying a brick texture to a wall. It seems that RW does not wrap the texture around the ends or faces of openings in the wall automatically. In the Obj. Browser if I apply the brick bond texture to the top/side faces (middle option) it needs remapping to the end face of the wall. I have used the "Set by Face" button to map the texture to the end face. The texture then needs to be rotated 90?. The texture is however randomly offset depending where I click on the end face of the wall in the preview window, in other words the horizontal joints do not line up with those on the main face of the wall. This can presumably be adjusted by trial and error with "offset vert" option under the 2D options. Surely there must be an easier and straight forward way of wrapping the brickbond texture around faces of the wall. What am I doing wrong? What happens also if you draw walls by class. You can apply textures to the three sides of the wall in the classes edit dialogue box but you cannot map them there. Surely one does not need to later edit each wall with an opening or exposed end to change the mapping?
  5. CAUTION! After creating a symbol and assigning it to a Class the elements of the symbol (lines, arcs, etc.) do not take on that Class. Only the symbol's Class is apparent in the Object Info Palette (unless in Edit Symbol mode) not the class of its elements. CONSEQUENTLY THE SYMBOL MAY NOT APPEAR IF THE SYMBOL'S CLASS IN ACTIVE/VISIBLE AND THE CLASSES OF ELEMENTS USED TO CREATE IT ARE NOT ACTIVE/VISIBLE ON A CUSTOM SHEET FOR INSTANCE It would seem that there should be a warning to normally assign at least all 2D elements of a symbol to the same Class as will be given to the symbol itself. BETTER STILL, SURELY A SYMBOL SHOULD ACT AS THOUGH IT HAS THE CLASS ATTRIBUTED TO IT IN THE OBJECT INFO PALATTE.
  6. So what does the "scale text" option actually do?
  7. Does scale text in linked layers work or have I not understood the method? I have text on a layer at a scale of 1/50 and want to display it on a linked layer at a scale of 1/20 so that the text would plot at the same size, i.e. would be smaller relative to the drawing at the larger scale. I have linked the layers, selected "project 2D items" and, in the layer scale dialogue box have left "scale text" unselected. The text remains the same size relative to the drawing in the 1/20 layer. I have made a trial file with a line of text at 10 points and put a tight rectangle around it at 1/50 scale. Linking it to a 1/20 scale layer the text continues to fill the rectangle with either "scale text" selected or not. Can anyone please help?
  8. I have files set up with drawings positioned for plotting out on A1 size paper. Sometimes I wish to print out or fax small areas of the drawing on A4 size paper. This involves moving the print area. How can I reposition the A1 print area EXACTLY back to the original default position after having moved it for printing the smaller area of the drawing?
  9. The 8.5.2 beta posted does not seem to support longer notes as promised. However there is a work around for original problem posted. Blocks of text of any length can be converted to a Symbol for placement in more than one place or on other drawings. "Organise" Menu -> Create Symbol. In the Create Symbol dialogue box, if you choose "options" and check "Convert to Group" the symbol becomes a "Blue Symbol" and can be edited after placement, with the Text Tool.

    Key Notes

Kevin, thanks for your help. I must admit that I did not really get the point before of Key Notes being separted references to text placed elswhere on the drawing.

    Key Notes

Can anyone please help? When I try to place a note with the KeyNote tool the text of the note does not appear on the drawing, only the number of the note. I have found this both with the sample Keynotes provided and with a note I prepared by using "Add" in the KeyNote Manager and typing in the text.
  12. Cutting 3D and 2D sections through walls does not seem to transfer details of cavities and hatching. Why is this?
