  1. I am working on a light plot and I realized that some of the lighting information was not on the class that I wanted it on. The info was some on some units where the Symbol was on the correct class but the Channel, Unit, Color and Template was on the wrong class. When I changed it to the correct class, it disappears. I tried turning on all classes and layers but it is still gone. Also, now when I try to move any lighting infor, like a template that is running into another lights info, it disapears. Before I redid the classes, I could move that information easily but now, no matter which light I select, I cannot move the info. Finally, doing the above action made the Label Legends disapear. THIS PLOT IS DUE AT THE END OF THE WEEK. PLEASE GIVE ME A FIX FOR THIS Thanks
  2. Is it possible to get VW to alphabatize and nermerically list all things in these pull down menus. For example, of I want to select everything by a certain Channel, I have to scroll through the list of channels in the pull down until I find the right one, because they are not numerically listed Thanks
  3. I have been exporting and importing from VW to LW successfully until I added scrollers to the plot. After I added scrollers in VW, I exported it out to LW and it went in OK but gave me the message that there were Multiple ID's that were the same. The units with scrollers had been duplicated so that I would get 2 of each scroller and 2 of each light that was associated with the scroller. Then when exporting out of LW and back into VW, it will give me the message that some units could not be updated and it is always the lights with the scrollers. How do I fix this? Thanks
  4. Kevin I tried this. I followed the instruction in the Help PDF. The last step is to Hit "OK" but there is no place to hit "OK" in the Data Tab. I have already placed all the lights, so I wanted to change this globaly. I dropped each type that I created into a corner of the drawing, after importing a light record, and then selected them 1 at a time and went to the data tab, selected light record, and put in the info. I tried placing a new light after this was done but it did not come in with the info. If I select the lights that I worked on, they still have the info in the Data tab but in the Shape tab the Values are not present and are present at all if I place a light from scratch Does this make sense? and can you help? Thanks Lonnielrafaela @aol,com
  5. Kevin I just created a symbol and then inserted it as a Light, I did not do anything to asociate with its attributes When I select the light the Properties box comes up like it is a light but I am not sure how to permanently associate things like Wattage and Type How do I do that? Thanks Lonnie lrafaela@aol.com
  6. I used the Replace Instrument Command and changed a bunch of lights from 36dgr to 50dgr. The symbols are my own and perform well but, even though the symbol changes, the Properties for the light did not The Instrument Type still says it is a 36dgr, even though the symbol is now a 50dgr and I did a 'refresh instruments' Any thoughts?
  7. I have successfully Exported out of VW and then imported into Lightwright and then dumped back to VW However when I try to Update the plot and then Export it and then re-import to LW, I have problems. 1st I tried the VW Lightwright Action to Import but got duplicates of everything in Lightwright Next, I tried the VW Lightwright Action -- Merge from Spotlight and it seems to come in OK but no changes are reflected Help!
  8. I have 4 Label Legends in my drawing I just edited one of them to change color and template to "right reading" It worked fine then I went back to edit the layout of one of the legends and all legends disapeared If I select a light, in its properties, it shows the correct label legend but if I go to Lebel Legend Manager, there are no legends listed Any ideas?
  9. I am using VW 9.5.0 on a Windows machine I have a drawing that in which I numbered all the pipes and everything works well but now I am trying to renumber sections and I am getting this error:"Error: _48 _50 - Index outside array limits." Does anyone know what this is from? And how to fix it. Thanks Lonnie
  10. I am running VW Spotlight 9.5.0.b7 on Windows. I am trying to create a hybrid lighting position that dwells on just 1 Class but no matter what I do when the Position gets created, it lives on both the Class that I created it on and the "None" class. I am not creating any of the lines orginally on the "None" Class and the symbol itself is fine on the Class I created it on, it is only when I convert it to a lighting posistion. Please tell me there is a fix for this! Thank you Lonnie
  11. Kacey Thank you for your response and for the info. I hope it is something they can fix. As for the symbol, I really think they should find a way to do it like AutoCAD, as it is very frustrating to always have your symbols in the same Class, if you want to use them in different drawings for different reasons. But it is more easily fixed in a Symbol, as you can go into Edit Symnol and change the Class Properties. Anyway, Thank you for your attentions. Lonnie
  12. Kacey Thank you for your response. "Living on 2 Classes" Somehow when I create a Lighting Position from a 2d/3d Hybrid Symbol, the Position resides on 2 classes. For ex:I created a Hybrid Symbol of the Class "LTG-Catwalks".Once the Position is created, in order to see it on the screen, I have to have the class "LTG-Catwalks" and the "None" class ON. If I turn off one or the other, the Position disappears. I have tested this many ways, and it is only when I create it as a Position. The symbol by itself, before it becomes a Lighting Position is fine. This disallows the possibility to use any class setting except for Show/Snap/Modify. This also happens when I create a symbol. When I draw the Symbol on the "None" Class and then Insert it on anothr class, both classes have to be on to see it. In Autocad, I can create a Block on the "0" layer and then when I place it in a drawing, I can put it on any layer that I want and can turn off the "0" layer and it will still display. I need to know if there is a way to do this in VW and how to fix the Lighting Position Proble, Thank you! Lonnie lrafaela@aol.com
  13. JGl The polygon was already closed Thanks Lonnie
  14. I have created a Lighting position from a symbol.I created the Symbol on my "Light Pipes" classI created the Lighting Position while in my "Light Pipes" classWhen I select the position, it shows it as on the "Light Pipes" class However, if I try to 'Gray Other'or 'Active Only' classes, it Grays the Lighting Position as well or causes it to disappear. No matter what I do I cannot get it to behave like it is actually on the Light Pipe Class I discovered that if I turn off all classes except the Light Pipes Class and the None Class that I get what I want. Why when creating symbols does it associate them with the None Class and how can I fix it Any ideas? Thanks Lonnie

  16. Is it possible to apply textures to the Curtain Object, Groups or Symbols
  17. I am attempting to create an image that will be a chunk of glass I create a Polygon with 3 sides (left, right and bottom) and then create a wavy line top to it with the freehand tool and then I convert it all to a Polygon and extrude it to about 10'. I then apply a the texture "Glass" to it and click start and end caps. When I render it, the front and back do not render -- they are untreated. I discussed this with a VW Rep at a lighting convention this last weekend and his fix was to make sure that Start and End Caps were on but I have done that and it still does not work. Any ideas?
  18. I am running Vectorworks 9.01 in Windows 2000 and after open a drawing I move my Mouse/Trackball cursor over the drawing and text is placed on the screen such as Align V, Align H, Locus, etc Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a fix? It is worse with the Kensington Pro trackball than it is with a generic Mouse Thank you Lonnie Alcaraz
  19. I am attempting to drop Seats into a theatre. I followed the manual and created a Polygon and then go to Spotlight>Utilities>Create Seating Layout but when it gets to the 'Create Seating Layout' window where the "Root" appears and other items are supposed to appear like "Chairs", so I cannot bring in Chairs. How do I add the directory in that window? Thank you Lonnie
  20. Thank you for the info. I will try it but 1st I need to get rid of the duplicates that do not appear anywhere except the paperwork and import/exports. I have tried to go into VW paperwork and delete them but since they are not applied to specific instruments, they do not appear to want to delete. Any suggestions? Thank you Lonnie quote: Originally posted by kacey1: I am going to make the assumption that you are using SpotLight. Do NOT import your first record as the manual tells you to. This is an error and will be fixed for the next release. You may find the SpotLight forum helpful; there is a more detailed post on the importing error. HTH
  21. I am attempting to export a file from VW to LW and then alter the LW file and export it back to VW. I was successfully able to go from VW to LW and then input Channel, Dimmer, Color and Template into LW and then re-export it back to VW. When I import into VW, it does fine until the end where it tells me that some units were not updated and are selected. The problem is that all units in the plot are selected and none have been updated. I tried to do the export again from VW but now I have double the amount of lights in my plot. The existing ones that I can see and the ones that were imported. How do I get rid of the duplicates and how do I successfully re-import all of the LW information? Thank you Lonnie Alcaraz
  22. Leslie I am fighting a similar problem with 2 monitors and was informed by VW that it is a bug in 9.0 and they will hopefully fix it soon but putting pressure on them would be good. I have about 3 people with the same problem and we are bugging VW about it. Thanks Lonnie quote: Originally posted by Leslie: On related topic - how can I get vw to remember document window size and position for a workspace that has 3x6 tool palettes on left side and side-by-side 2x6 tool palettes on the right side of screen ? I'm using an Apple 15" Flat Panel LCD Studio Display at max. resolution. Everytime I open up a document, the window is positioned as if I had a 2x6 palette on left and the same on right. Workspace Editor prior to VW9 allowed user atleast the illusion of being able to set the document default size and location. Sure would be nice to have that back - even better would be to actually be able to create a mock layout for the palettes and document window... Much Thanks-
  23. Thank you for the info I will give it a try Do you know if there is any hope of the problem being fixed any time soon? Thanks quote: Originally posted by McBrideNNA: There is a bug in 9 with remembering palette positions on windows using dual monitors. If your palettes are on the secondary monitor the horizontal position is not remembered. One temporary fix is to change your small monitor's designation from secondary to primary. This does not mean you will use it as your main monitor, the software just thinks of it that way. Do this though the display properties dialog. HTH,
  24. Caleb I tried editing a workspace and the changes stuck but it did not help the screen position. I will call technical support on Monday. Thanks for your help. Lonnie quote: Originally posted by Caleb Strockbine: A bug in 9.0 is certainly a possibility, but if so it's one that I'm not aware of. I did just try to reproduce the situation with VectorWorks 9.0.1 on a Windows 98 machine with a single monitor, and the palette positions saved and restored themselves just fine. Since I only have one monitor on that machine it's not exactly the same situation so the possibility remains open. I did just remind myself that palette positions are actually saved into the workspace file rather than the preferences. Sorry to have led you astray on that -- don't know what I was thinking. Can you make certain that the workspace file is writable? Can you edit it using the workspace editor and see your changes take effect? If that fails, I'd recommend giving the guys in tech support a call on Monday morning. No matter what the cause, chances are pretty good that they'll already have encountered the same question from somebody else and be able to advise you better than I can. The number is 410-290-5114. Hope that helps a bit. Caleb Strockbine
  25. Thank you for the info I tried changing the preferences and it held I am using Windows 98. Remember this worked fine with 8.5. Can it be something with 9.0? Thanks Lonnie quote: Originally posted by Caleb Strockbine: What operating system are you using? One likely explanation is that VectorWorks is for some reason unable to write its preferences file. This might be because the preferences file is locked, or you don't have enough user priviledges, etc. (Under Windows, VectorWorks stores preferences not in a file but in the Windows registry, but the idea is the same.) If this is indeed what's going on, it's reasonable to think that VectorWorks should be unable to save any of the preferences. Is that the case? Go to VectorWorks Preferences and change some of the preferences listed there. Maybe turn on the Black Background setting, or anything else that'll be obvious to you. Quit VectorWorks, and the launch it again. Is the preference you set still in effect? Another possibility is that VectorWorks never gets a chance to save the preference information. This would only be the case if VectorWorks always terminates abnormally (force quit, crash, frequent blackouts, etc.).
