I would like the ability dock the attributes pallette to the top of the screen. When it docks to the side of the screen, it squeezes the oi pallette and the resource browser and makes it hard to read. At least that's how I see it! Anyone with me?! Pat

I would like to see the ability to sort editable worksheets, in Spotlight, by at least two colums. When you create an instrument schedule, at the very least you need to sort by position and unit number! Adding this would take SL's usability to a whole new level!

YES, that sure would be nice...would save alot of head scratching and silent cursing!!

I actually rather enjoy using the PDF version...pretty easily searchable! pat

Are you subscribed to the VW mailing list?

whoa soccerkd11! 27 emails? flooded? You must not get alot of emails!! "that have nothing to do with my knowlage of vectorworks or improving my knowlage of vectorworks" It's your "knowlage" of things you don't know that are important! That email list has been and will probably continue to be a life saver for me! I have two words for you man...spellchecker and email rules...ok that's three words -
I am in the workspace editor and wish to drag (or copy) an existing menu item (including all submenu commands and menu line spacers), let's say "Machine Design" to my custom workspace. I cannot drag the whole menu item from the left column to the right column, only individual commands within the machine design category. Does this question make sense? I thought I used to be able to do this! Thanks!

Thanks Mike! I'll take a look! Pat

Hello, I am wondering if there exists, more tutorials and/or training for advanced 3D and rendering techniques. I am getting fairly adept at basic 3d, but am having difficulties creating more complex shapes (furniture and the like). I know that NURBS are the ticket but I am having a hard time finding something that works for me. If anybody knows of any good NURBS tutorials, please let me know! On another thought, I am exploring the possibilities of attending a training seminar that NNA puts on around the country but have noticed that most all of the sessions take place on either the east or west coast. Now I know that the people who live in these locals have a hard time believing that anything exists after 500 miles in-land but we actually have computers and do CAD. I am wondering why NNA does not offer courses in say, Chicago or St.Louis / Kansas City. This is a little bit closer to the geographic center of the country and a little easier to travel to! Just a few thoughts!

Hello, I have *finally* figured out how to enable 3D snapping. I fretted and complained...to myself...for a couple of years, not being able to figure it out! Now that I have, there is a question. Is it possible to enable 3d snapping in as a default? It appears that I have to go in and enable it in every new drawing (Double clicking on snap to object constraint). Thanks...and by the way...I love VW! Pat

I have a HP 130nr plotter and have been having a problem with the drawing printing out maybe 1/8 or 1/4 of the whole then spitting the rest out as a blank page! This started in v11 and continues into v12 Designer! Does this happen to anybody else? My associate uses ACAD and it prints to the same printer flawlessly. I'd say over the life of this plotter I've wasted 2-3 rolls of paper...getting a *bit* annoying! Any help would be appreciated! Pat

Docking Attributes pallette to top of screen
td4stage posted a question in Wishlist - Feature and Content Requests
It would be nice if it were possible to dock the attributes pallette along the top of the screen, horizontal instead of vertical. I stack my OI and Resource Browser pallettes on top of each other on the right side of the screen. When I stack the attributes in as well things start to get a little scrunched up. If I remember correct, the last version of ACAD I used (2000 I think) had the line weight and color stuff in with the toolbars at the top of the screen. Pat -
Hello, Are there light distribution files for Source 4 fixtures? Is it possible to create them? This looks like a neat idea! Thanks, Pat

I am very sorry for what has happened...unfortunately I can't give you any real advice other than what I do. I just attach a huge (I think its 6-8 inches long) key chain. I haven't lost one yet over 3 or 4 years now. And I am a key loser! :-)

Has anybody upgraded their educational license from VW 11 to 12 yet? I heard a rumor that if you upgrade from 11 to 12 a new dongle isn't sent and that the v11 dongle is used. I have two questions: 1. My v11 dongle is used mostly on my laptop and even with me being very careful, It is starting to get a little beat up. It still works, but some days I have to put a piece of tape accross it to hold it into the usb port. I could stand a new one! 2. Somebody please tell me if this is legal or not. I have a desktop machine in my office that I thought, once I have v12 up and running on my laptop, I'd install v11 just to have "in case". any comments?! Thanks in advance! Pat

Could be a good request for next update? Or maybe I'm just full of it! Pat

Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to edit what the focus point actually looks like. I would rather use a big letter rather than a little circle with text. I use sl 11.5.x and hope to be upgrading soon! Thanks, Pat

I am wondering if anybody could point me in the direction of a tutorial on how to model large rocks. Or, if anybody has a rock model or two to share, that would be cool as well! thanks in advance!

Thanks Katie, Is there a link or something explaining how to fix the ie help file warnings?! Or do you have to use firefox! Pat

I am getting ready to upgrade (from v11) and am wondering if VW/SL/RW includes pdf versions of the manual on the install cd. I think the v10 help link accessed the pdf manual. That was REALLY nice. I REALLY do not like the help files in v11. Mostly for the warning that pops up every time in IE, but also because they just don't seem to be as good as they used to be. Thanks,

Thanks EJ, Ive been to Vectordepot before, but what am I exactly looking for!

Please excuse me if this is not the correct forum for this question. I import quite a few 3ds models from the web for some of my work. Everything imports in but the polygon counts, even for a seemingly simple object like a rocking chair, is staggering. Somewhere near 7k - 10k! Is there some way, either in VW or another (hopefully low cost!) utility to accomplish this? Thanks in advance! Pat

gov_colin I know this may be oversimplifing. But a gobo is a small, thin, circular piece of aluminum with a pattern stamped in it. The gobo is then inserted in a theatrical lighting instrument and the pattern is then projected onto the stage. Common uses of gobos are leaf/tree patterns, clouds, windows, ie. They are quite useful and effective for theatrical design! I hope this helps, Pat

Merry Christmas All! I am wondering if there exists, or if anyone has, a symbol for a 3 cell, Selecon HUI cyc fixture. Preferably, the symbol would be all setup with Lightwright Data! Thanks,

Not a bad idea, but many times, at least how I work when I design, I am not really sure where the "subtraction" will be until I see it in 3d space! But hey...this is another method! Thanks alan!
