  1. When I create a new floor, I cannot get the top to show with a texture. The sides will have one, but not the top. Changing around the settings—Overall texture, using Class Texture or specifying a texture—doesn't matter. If I open an older file, the existing floors render properly, but copying that floor into a doc created in 2019 results in a blank-topped floor, and new floors created in the older file act the same way.

Doesn't matter whether I use OpenGL or Renderworks, nor does it matter what texture I use. Everything else in my reasonably complex model renders normally.

  2. I've been using VW 2019 for a couple weeks, on both new and imported files. Starting just today, it's being really weird about deleting some windows—they will persist in the wall after I delete, or won't let me pull them out, or even move them. This has happened on both new and imported files. I've closed files and the program and reopened, and sometimes it persists, others it works normally. On one file, I can delete some windows but not others.

I, uh, need to be able to change my design.

  3. Just upgraded to VW 2019. Trying to publish multiple letter-size sheets to PDF, they show up on a much larger "sheet". That is, I've got exactly what's within the page on the sheet layer appearing surrounded by white space on what appears to be a C-size sheet. It's neither centered nor pinned to a corner. If I print individual PDFs, they look exactly as they should. I've checked Scaling options on the Sheet Layer menus, and can't find any sort of scaling options in the Publish window.

  4. Suddenly, about a week ago, VW stopped being able to import images (I'm on most current version of 2018, Mac). It goes through the dialogue, asking about JPG or PNG, and I can even see a preview if I click Edit Attributes, but after I hit OK< nothing happens. I've tried on Sheet Layers, Design Layers, various Class settings—nothing. I need to be able to include map images for permit drawings, so this is pretty urgent. I've done it literally thousands of times over the years, never an issue before.

    Anyone else?

  5. Has anyone tried to create a wall type for Superior Walls precast foundation/basement walls? It's a thin concrete product that's sort of coffered, with ribs. I can very roughly approximate it by ignoring the ribs, but if anyone has a better solution, I'd love to see it.

  6. I've always converted my modeled (viewport) elevations to 2D for the final drawings so that I can get them just so. Now I'm in VW2011, and it doesn't seem to be possible - Convert to Polygons is grayed out, and I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing. I thought Cut 3D Section might help, but it doesn't.

Do I really need to do everything in Viewport Annotation, using white boxes and BS workarounds like that?

  7. OK, I'm being completely flummoxed by lighting and windows in various rendering modes. I'm rendering the interior of a church, so the lighting from/through/of the stained glass is critical.

The glazing in my stained glass is By Class, using a texture ("Stained Glass 1") that is set to be Transparent by Color Filter (using a light buff). The sun object is shining directly through the windows. As a control, I've switched one window to being Clear Glass, per the Window Settings dialogue.

In OpenGL with shadows turned on, the whole interior is dimly but uniformly lit, with light on the floor through the Clear Glass window. The stained glass texture in the other windows appears opaque - it is no brighter than the adjacent walls.

In Fast Renderworks with Shadows, I get light on the floor from all of the windows except the Clear Glass one, although the Clear Glass window at least appears bright and I can see through it. The room as a whole is quite dark; I need to turn on Layer Ambient to be able to see anything but the sunlight on the floor.

In Final Renderworks, everything is completely black.

Fast Radiosity looks awful (weird splotches of highlight and lowlight), and has no sunlight on the floor.

Final Radiosity completely bogs down my machine (incidentally, just last night it rendered a simpler interior with artificial light at a decent speed).

What on earth is going on, and how do I fix it? Would having a Renderworks HDMI background help? I haven't had a lot of success with those, either.

As far as what my client is looking for, the bare minimum is what I'm getting with Fast RW + Shadows, but I've told him I can do better than that.

  8. OK, we're on a mixed Win2K/OSX setup. From my G3, I can print to all of the network printers, no problem. My question is about being able to print to either of 2 Epson SC 1520s, one of which is hooked to a PC, the other to a G4. Seems to me I should be able to do this semi-easily, but I can't. Even when I check the "Show printers connected to other computers" box, the thing just doesn't seem to want to show.

    Any ideas, anyone?

  9. Whoa.

So this is, like, close to useless? We almost always run 24" rolls, so if I want to print, I need to switch out the roll?

Why was this never a problem with PCs or RIP? They're able to deal with this with the same aged plotter.

This is a major problem. I'm not sure I can justify switching anyone here to OSX. How has this not come up in any of the discussions I've read about Gimp?

Sorry, I'm just baffled and distressed. Criminy.

  10. OK, so I did the whole Ghostscript/Gimp-print thing for my OSX.2.4 G3 on a Windows network, and it worked beautifully.

EXCEPT (you knew that was coming) it printed my D-size sheet the wide way on 24" roll paper. I can't find anywhere to make this adjustment. I mean, yes, I could set it to Portrait and it would presumably feed correctly, but that's stupid. My sheet is in Landscape format, but I need it to rotate when printing, not work on it sideways.

    Help, anyone?

  11. OK, I downloaded a fresh driver, and it's the same one for the 45. Regardless, I can print tabloid from Mail, but now I can't even print Letter from VW. The error message flashes by quickly, but it's something to the effect of

    error in sending PSStream...

Or, I get no error message and no printout.

I'll also be checking OSX boards.

  12. I can get other OSX-native programs (like Mail) to print 11x17 to our office's printer/copier, a Toshiba e-Studio45 Series PS3, but VW steadfastly refuses. It always worked fine with it in OS9, and it looks as if it's spooling. It will even print letter sized. But something about the 11x17. I double-checked, and the Pedestal Option is installed. I have no idea, but this is a big problem.

  13. Hard Drive OSX:Applications:Vectorworks 10.0.1

After the first failure, I renamed it. Before, the folder name was just Vectorworks, or maybe Vectorworks 10

I guess the issue is simply that the 10.0.1 Updater doesn't update the application file. It says it's installing 60 files, and seems to complete the task correctly.

  14. OK, I'm running OSX with 10.0.0 on the OSX drive. I've downloaded 10.0.1 and 10.1. When I install 10.0.1, it seems to work, and some of the folders (Release Notes & Plug Ins) have newly modified dates, but the version on the program itself is still 10.0.0, and 10.1 refuses to install, saying that I need to install 10.0.1! I've been through this twice now.

Do I need to restart or something?

  15. OK, sorry if this is a dumb question, but:Why can't I edit the scripts that come with VW 9.5? I just want to tweak - make the point size smaller in the databox, things like that. Am I missing something, or has one of my favorite VW aspects gone away?
