  1. I am unfortunately stuck with the DXF. Though what you are saying sounds promising. I did attach the file. Did you have success with the model? Are you certain this is the best way, or just your best guess?
  2. I have a DXF file that we brought in from another software. When brought into vectorworks it shows up as a 3d wireframe model. We want to be able to render this and give the wireframe model some depth for a photo sim. What is the best way to do this? I have tried the extrude along path with sucess, unfortunately this model has over 1166 lines and this is just not a solution to do one by one. Ive tried selecting the similar components in an attempt to do a batch extrude so to speak, but doesnt seem to work. I have attached the file. Any suggestions would be great. This seems like it should be a rather simple task for VW.
  3. Just curious how many users may be in the area? Wondering if there would be any demand for training in this area? Are there any workshops or groups sharing knowledge out there. Thanks!
  4. Nobody? I thought this would be a common question.
  5. I have installed 2011 on two computers. 1 at work and one on my laptop. Now I want to take it off the laptop and put it onto my Imac. It will not allow me to do this bc of the 2 license agreement. However if I delete it off of the laptop will that enable me to put it on the iMac? Or is it two installs and then your maxed out?
  6. Ok I figured that out. Now the issue I seem to be having is when I create a pad and a boundary it only shows the proposed contours in the 2d model even tho I have selected the option to show existing and proposed. This issue with the site modifiers was caused by bringing over my workspace preferences from 2011 to 2012. So this is not recommended. Your best to create a new workspace in 2012. As soon as I defaulted back to architect workspace the site modifiers began to work again.
  7. This is the tool that appears to be a bull dozer in the site planning tool. The minute I select it it says "The plug in tool site modifiers could not be selected. Check to make sure it is in your Plug-ins folder." Now i did this and there is nothing that I see in the plugins for 2011 or 2012 that says site modifier. I have no problem using this tool in past versions inculding 2011. Any ideas?
  8. Right. Thats exactly what I do. It appears the the SRF is the correct class to use as I have talked with a VW rep today. However the VW rep was inclined to use the pad and boundry technique. Seems each show the same results. They also came upon some glitches so its hard to determine when Im right and the program is wrong. I could send you a file if your willing to take a look at it in your spare time.
  9. RIght. My last questions is when I recieve DWG should I be creating the model from the countours class themselves or from the SRF VIEW class?
  10. Ok. I think I discovered my problem. I was working in such a small area it was there it was just hard to see. For some reason I was under the impression the road nurbs wasnt the right tool but It appears to give me the results Im after.....i think!
  11. Ok. I was able to use the Road 3d nurbs and it appears to work. When I entr flyover mode or go to isometric views it appears to be working. However when I go back to top plan and update the model it does show anything but my existing contours. No proposed. Is the 3d model independent from the 2d? Do i need to make a 2d modifier in order to see the changes in the 2d model?
  12. Cipes I was just reading an old post of yours where it seems you were doing something similar. I guess my issue is what is the work flow once the model is created. If I want to show a road leading to a square compound. That road could have a bend or 2 at the most. My boss wants me to be able to "grade the existing contours" by generating a model for the client. So the finished model would show what grading would be needed and show the existing grading as well as the proposed in one 2d plan. When I convert my 3d polys that represent the road to site modifiers they dont show up in top/plan. I just think my workflow is the issue after creating the model itself. If that makes any sense. When I explore how to make a road in the manual it often refers to landmark. Some have stated it can be done in Architect. We really work in the 2d world so this is all new to me. Boss isnt to interested in having someone come in to show us. So I have to play with the cards Im dealt. It is really hard to know if your headed in the right direction without some guidence. Nobody in my office has any idea and Im of course the guy who has to "figure it out."
  13. There has to be some people in Cleveland that use Vectorworks 2011?? Ive been using it for over 5 years now and have no problems working in the 2d world. We only deal in 2d Ive dabbled in 3d. I notice the AEC model has a 2d and 3d model so Im not sure if one would need good 3d experience. It also appears that some of what Im trying to do would require Landmark?
  14. Im looking to get some training on creating a simple site model and a figure out how to use site modifiers correctly. I have fumbled thru alot of it but really need someone who can bring me thru the rest. Im trying to import a DWG survey The order of workflow I have been taking: 1) Import the DWG. 2) Select the file and where it states "Architectural Objects" I leave this as 2D 3) Then the next msg window has a drop down menu for "Convert Objects to" and here I was told we want to make all objects 3d as seen below. 4) Then once the drawing is imported I take all the objects in the AutoCad Design Layer copy them and place them into a blank document in VW. 5) I then turn all layers off and turn only major and minor contours remain on. I select these and then AEC>Terrain>create site model. Then turn all the layers back on. Here is where things tend to get interesting. If someone In the Cleveland Ohio area is interested in this please let me know or simply post a reply. I have VW with a laptop and can easily travel to a location that suites the trainer. I am willing to pay for the session and can work around your schedule.
  15. I guess my question is how did you select the different lights in the report? I only am able to use the default selection in the report? Also I see in the report you named the rooms but I dont see that in the drawing? It would be great if you could post some general steps. But this is exactly what we are looking for.
  16. Whoops ok my classes were acting silly. I do see the report....let me see if i can figure this out! A little more guidence would be great.
  17. Im not following? I see where you have the spaces on the seperate design layer. I guess Im asking is it possible to create a report that will tell me for example room 1 has 3 lights with 6 bulbs. Room 2 has 4 lights with 8 bulbs. I was under the impression you could create a report that would tell you what items are in what spaces?
  18. Ok so I already have recived some great feedback on this board and Im looking for a bit more. Im curretly working in 2011. I have a a building with multiple rooms. I have used the space tool under the SPACE PLANNING toolset. I was able to trace each room to generate each space. Then I placed lights in each space. From there I tried to create a report that would show me how many lights are in each space. The issue Im having is it seems I can only generate a report for all lights and another for all rooms. I cannot figure out how to create a report that will tell me HOW MANY LIGHTS are in EACH room. Right now I can only get a seperate count on lights and a seperate count on rooms. Ive attached a picture for clarification.
  19. Im trying to set up a border based on Viewports using the document setup. When you go into document setup you need to select your drawing area which i did then you select your sheet boarder which i did then you select your title block which I did. Where it gets interesting is in the area of the document setup box there is the USE BORDER SETTINGS at the bottom. there are 2 options here. The first option AS PREFERENCES WHEN SHEETS ARE CREATED. I was under the impression that if you select this option that it should place the selected border on ALL sheets once a viewport has been cut to create that sheet view? However when I create a viewport and put it on a sheet there is no border show? Any insight how to create a border that works with viewports and places the border on ALL sheets. Or do I have to go with the latter option shown in border settings which is TO CREATE A BORDER NOW ON LAYER: and then select the layer everytime?
  20. yea. you are right. Im just suprised it would take this many commands. Not impressed so far.
  21. This is what I was thinking but it seems odd to me that there isnt just a simple way to do this. I have to extrude anlong a path with a solid rim profile? No option to just trim back to surface as flush?
  22. Ah ha....i took a stab on the last post think its up there. Let me hear what you guys think. Again very new please be nice lol.
  23. not sure how to attach an image? Ill glady post up here. Any help with how to achive this.
