Vectorworks abandoning perpetual licences
cberg replied to line-weight's topic in General Discussion
The cost of a Sketchup Pro subscription has increased to $399 per year. -
I could move everything as expected. @fabrica are you still using OS 12.4 Monterey. I didn't think VW2026 was compatible with anything before OS 10.15.x (Sequoia).

"Show Other Objects While in Edit Mode" changes in VWX2026
cberg replied to squirrelboy71's question in Troubleshooting
Each button could also control On (Black - Full Color), Off and Gray for the Viewport and the Sheet. But if you wanted a maximalist four button layout that's fine too, as long as the other dialogue box controls go away. Seven areas to control the same info would make my head explode! 🤣 -

Yes. I didn't know what to call that button, but referred to this document for some shared terminology. -
"Show Other Objects While in Edit Mode" changes in VWX2026
cberg replied to squirrelboy71's question in Troubleshooting
Oh.... The controls are toggling what's in and out of the crop window, but they are not toggling what's in and out of the page/annotations, which may be working as designed but which is kind of odd. It feels different from the Edit Annotations Onscreen Controls because there is only one level of hide/show to toggle. -
"Show Other Objects While in Edit Mode" changes in VWX2026
cberg replied to squirrelboy71's question in Troubleshooting
Perhaps I am not understanding some aspect of the new VW26 functionality, but the Onscreen View Control Button does not appear to have any effect while editing a Viewport crop. The video posted above shows what I am experiencing. This problem may be specific to my machine, my OS, or some configuration of all the various preference settings. Is this how the controls were intended to function? -

@Tom W. I will explore this further, but I am not experiencing consistent behavior in the edit modes you highlighted with the crop tool. -
"Show Other Objects While in Edit Mode" changes in VWX2026
cberg replied to squirrelboy71's question in Troubleshooting
There are now three places where this Edit Mode behavior is controlled. VW Preferences. Edit Viewport Dialogue Box. And the Onscreen View Control Dialogue Box. I am not sure how each should be set to ensure proper functioning. -

There is something buggy about this implementation, as selecting the button no longer changes what is visible outside the viewport. -
"Show Other Objects While in Edit Mode" changes in VWX2026

Make sure your VW preferences are set correctly to Show + Gray other objects while in editing modes. For a while, 2026 was behaving as you describe above. I tried a bunch of things but couldn't see anything outside of the crop. Then I clicked off Gray Other Objects and then clicked it back on. After resetting things, VW26 now allows me to see other objects outside the crop window. -
It would not surprise me that this feature eventually gets added to the VSS perpetual license version of the software. If I recall, several VW Landscape tools were added to the Architect version over time. Software makers share an interest in file health and ensuring Vectorworks runs smoothly. Bloated model files strain cloud processing resources, which must also have an economic impact greater than (or equal to) the additional revenue associated with switching from VSS to subscription.

Vectorworks abandoning perpetual licences
cberg replied to line-weight's topic in General Discussion
This is the second release where the discussion of Service Select going away has overshadowed any engagement with the new VW version. It must be tough to put all this effort into a product release, only to have the discussion of the company's business model take center stage. -
Thank you! I thought I had that checked at some point, but I did not.

https://app-help.vectorworks.net/2025/eng/VW2025_Guide/FurnFixt/Countertop_insertions.htm#h I've read the help section above several times, but I am having difficulties inserting the Kohler 2297 sink (downloaded from the VW library) into the countertop. Other Kohler sinks seem to insert without problem. What plug-in option is preventing the insertion from working correctly? Kohler 2297.vwx

I think I am good! I appreciate all the help!

Even if I create a NURBS Curve native using the Create NURBS Curve tool, Duplicate along Path does not accurately place loci on the path. It places them "Sort of" on the Path, which is maybe what the tool should be renamed. 🙂 Duplicate "Sort of" Along Path.
-
@VIRTUALENVIRONS Looking at your post, I don't understand your comment about interpolation vs. control point mode. I do not see these options in the Duplicate Along Path Command. Is there a different tool I should be using?
-
I don't think that's the issue. Everything in this file was done in VW. Duplicate along Path still places the 3D Locus point .238" [6 mm] off the curve. That's not particularly accurate, and it makes me question what else may not be accurate. VW Native Test.vwxVW Native Test.vwx

The curves are developed from survey elevation points along a bike path edge. They were laid out using a station point and elevations along a 2d Vector. The 3D NURBS curve was then offset. All of this was done in Rhino, as it was easier for me to accomplish those tasks in that program. Rebuilding the curve in the VW 3D Power Pack Toolset regularizes the geometry somewhat; however, it does not entirely resolve the issue. I can reduce the offset to about 1/64" [.4 mm], but the 3D loci still stray from the path. If the points were on the curve, you could use the Point Split tool and split the curve at the locus point. I cannot do this. There must be a mathematical error, or VW may not be well-suited for accurately duplicating objects along a complex 3d NURBS curve path. I can deal with the imprecision, as it's within striking distance, but there's certainly room for improvement.

Thank you @VIRTUALENVIRONS and @Steve S. I am not super fluent in NURBS modeling. Realizing my earlier segmentation error, I wound up rebuilding the curve and recreating the required work line overnight. I was trying to figure out how to stay in VW, if possible, since most things can be done here, but often with a different approach. Upon laying out work points for some 3d elements, I encountered a different Vectorworks problem. When I duplicated a 3D locus along newly created (hopefully legitimate) NURBS Curve, I noticed that VW (maybe?) did not accurately duplicate the 3D loci along the path in blue. At the end of the path, the locus appears 9/64" [3.58mm] off of the work line. Maybe within construction tolerances, but perplexing nonetheless. I am confused whether this is a graphical resolution issue, or an actual geometry problem. Is the duplicate along path tool the best tool for this application? The idea was to set centerline geometry along this layout curve. New Curve + Duplicate along path.vwx

Both versions seem pretty accurate but both require cleanup of the 3D end points. I've attached a file with your curve in magenta and Rhino in black. Your offset was 20". I needed a 12" offset. Offset Rhino+VW.vwx
-
No worries!
-
@VIRTUALENVIRONSYes. That is what I needed in VW. How did you do it?
