  1. Created this simple script that queries the attached records of imported shape file and copies the polygons into new classes by the land-use category with the record. Once created the user simply needs to assign the appropriate color to the land use.
  2. Your Chicago food tour doesn't include the "Twin Anchor"? Been to Chicago at least half a dozen times and all but one have made the trip to Lincoln Park and the "Twin Anchor". What's your favorite deep dish place?
  3. Good Morning! Thanks for your insight. Your insight gave me an idea. I went back to my original marionette and per your suggestion changed the values in the record to decimals rather than feet and inches and changed the drawing units to feet. Thanks to your inspiration the GIS data with embedded records extrudes correctly dndmoves them to the correct elevation however they are not generated at the correct geo-referenced coordinates. Would it be possible that this is in the node itself? If one was to simply extrude the polygon it will not change coordinates it will simply extrude by the value given.
  4. First time posting here so I will first apologize for any social faux pas that I make or if I don't include the correct information. I've been working with Marissa, and her help has been extremely beneficial, on several other ways to manipulate data from GIS file downloaded from various government agencies. This particular challenge is one that I felt would be very useful to architects, urban planners and landscape architects. The imported shapefile carried over the attached record for critical building information like use elevation and height. I've created a script that queries the attached records for building elevation and height. The resulting extruded shapes don't have the right heights or elevations. Where have I gone wrong. Additionally it would be great if the records remained attached to the resulting extruded shapes. For you planner types I was also planning on adding a way in which the assigned use can move the extruded shape to a new class using the attached record. Any and all feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
  5. I've never had that much luck with plotting or printing either at my home office with my Mac and Designer 2015 or at my clients office running on Windows w/ Landmark 2015.
  6. Matt, Did you ever make a decision on this and if so what was and have you been happy with your choice? One of my clients is having similar issue and we are considering change hardware as well. If you are still out there I would greatly appreciate hearing back from you.
  7. So other than the full screen issue is there any issues with crashes or un-expected behavior form Yosemite?
  8. Ozzie, We have all the civil information, curbs, inlets, edge of pavement etc. and then all the architecture. Even on occasion we have separate survey drawings and there associated information. Currently we reference in the drawings per the VW recommended approach into our base which we then prepare our designs on. That then along with the other disciplines gets referenced into what we call our sheet files. The purpose behind this is to have the flexibility of more than one person working on annotation, grading or even planting while all using the same background. Are you familiar with AutoCAD? If you are then you know that even when referencing in drawings you can easily control visibilities with a simple tool like the one in vectorworks but this tool works through to referenced files as well. Is there a similar approach in VW? Robert
  9. I'm a Landscape Architect working as a contractor for a firm and we have numerous projects where the other consultants are sending us updated AutoCAD files weekly. Currently VW is recommending that you import the DWG's into one file and then cut them and paste in place into a second. This is done to minimize the number of errors that can occur. This is working fine the greater challenge we face is that we are not sure what is the best practice for referencing in these converted DWG's? The VW preferred method is to use viewports. This would be most similar to AutoCAD xref's but once these files are referenced into the drawing where we are doing say layout you don't have the same ability to control visibilities as you would if they are native to the file. Is there anyone out there who has the same challenges and would you be willing to share with us your solution and or best practices? Thank you in advance for your assistance.
  10. What a difference a year makes. 15 million iPads in 9 months and growing!
  11. With the announcement of the iPad2 and Autodesk already supporting Sketchbook Pro NNA really should get on the stick and produce, what could be the greatest benefit to site analysis since remote sensing. With two cameras and faster processor this might very well be the perfect tool for anyone working on site development, architecture, landscape architecture.
  12. I would like to buy a RAID Network Attached Storage. Are there any users out there that can share their experience? I've been considering a Synology DS710+ and just want to make sure that I don't run into problems with my VW files on the network. I had bad experience with a LaCie Gigabit attached drive and swore I will not go back to LaCie. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
