  1. @beanus I have a 2017 MacBook Pro 15" and it has been great. I used it with a CalDigit TS3+ and had great success with it while working on an extended assignment in Australia! Can't speak to the Surface devices but my wife goes through a laptop a year because of hardware failures. Mac's are expensive but dependable and reliable.
  2. I don't know if this a 2019 issue or I haven't been paying attention but there is something clearly wrong with text sizes and labels with the planting tool. As you can see in the attached images I have plant tags that show as 10 pt on the design layer but when one goes to the sheet layer the text shows as larger than that. I only just now noticed it because the drawing label tool is set to 10 pt and it is scaled correctly. I've tried different fonts as well just to verify and each time the plant tag is bigger than it should be. Any help on resolving this will be greatly appreciated!
  3. @Danielle C What version of VW are you using including which service patch and what OS? If your text is set to points when you view it through a viewport on a sheet layer regardless of scale it should come out the same point size. I will be posting on a separate new string a much different issue I'm having with plant labels. While the label shows that it is 10 pt when I switch to the sheet layer the viewport shows it larger than it should be regardless of font. This is a problem that I need fixed since the labels are not to scale they are eating up too much real estate.
  4. @Nakyma Not that I'm aware of. Is your desire to have a road grading tool that can create parabolic vertical curves that can respond to horizontal curved alignments. Would you also want to apply a road profile that essentially extrudes along your road centerline in such a way that it can super elevate or simply a crowned profile with 1:50 or similar slope and curb and gutter then sufficient width to provide for sidewalks and lastly a set variable for the cut and fill slopes to return to grade? I imagine you bought the software for other reasons than the site modeling tool, if so what were your reasons for purchasing?
  5. @Christiaan I'm curious about your use of the workgroup reference rather than project sharing? Have you tried or have experience that you would be willing to share. I have worked with other clients and we historically done projects that reference our modeling into what I call sheet files but with the advent we have switched to project sharing. Now, project sharing has its issues as well and can be frustrating but it does limit the number times you have to go back and forth between files. Best of luck and thanks in advance for your opinion.
  6. @EJW Sorry I should have asked or clarified this. It might be worth upgrading to designer.
  7. @Patrik Gren If you are intending to use this as a shared resource for other users you can save the standard plant database to DropBox or on your server. I use DropBox so I can access the same database when I'm traveling and working with my laptop. Once that is done delete as many entries you want or mark them as favorites or add project names so you can recall these from time to time.
  8. @ericjhberg I agree totally. As you know we are both pushing beyond that perception as are others like @mcgregorcoxall with there global team!
  9. @ericjhberg I read your post on irrigation and wow that is annoying!
  10. @Dillon I'm very late to this but I have the same issue and it is terrible that we have stepped back just for the ability to modify contours in the model, which didn't really work that well! Please fix this!
  11. @Tamsin Slatter I was working on assignment in Australia at the time and no longer have access to the Vectorworks file. I will look into this and try with a different file. Thanks for following up.
  12. @ericjhberg I hardly use the grade object tool. As a matter of fact I hardly use any of the tools directly in the "Site Planning" tool set. I typically draw the polygon or polyline that I want to define the object or in your situation "site modifier" and go to Landmark > Create Objects from Shapes and selected the desired element. I don't know if this is any faster or slower but I feel that works more smoothly.
  13. @KarynT I agree 100% this needs to be fixed. Seems like such a simple thing since you can already do this with doors. Speaking of doors we should have the same feature if you had a garden wall and you wanted to have a gate or a door with out a header.
  14. @NikF I wasn't familiar with Placemaker until now. Depending on where you are one can get similar data sets through GIS. Some of this is free and in other locations you have to pay. After you have determined the availability you can import legacy shape files and create and create a site model from the contours. With some extra knowledge of Marionette and some help from Vectorworks forum users you can create scripts that can query the data sets for building and assign buildings by use to a class and extrude them to their assigned height. I had some help to achieve this as shown in the attached image. Best of luck!

@ed209 I assume by your screen name that you are Robo Cop Fan! Me too! What kind of training have you had with the site planning tools and as "Architect" is that as a Landscape Architect or simply Architect? I ask as I provide training and support internationally for just this kind of situation. Enjoy your holiday! Cheers!
  16. @Roger Webster What I have done for my clients and myself is use one of the existing reports (don't know about the UK version but there should be standard ones) and modify them to satisfy my clients needs. The attached image shows a modification needed to show the canopy size for municipal review and approval. Best of luck. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
  17. @EJW I have worked extensively with site modeling and I would suggest that you use hardscapes. Not only do you then get data rich information modeling with the hardscape but you can also use it as a site modifier. In this way you don't have to have duplicate objects thereby reducing the potential for errors and omissions. Also you want to look at long curves carefully. When using a site modifier or hardscape they calculate in a straight line and if the arc is sharp or long enough you will not always get the result you are looking for. To resolve this I have found that breaking these situations into smaller arcs or segments. Hope this helps in your efforts.
  18. I did this and made sure that the export site model was checked and the resulting output was only my hardscapes that are also site modifiers. Any future input will be greatly appreciated from anyone.
  19. I've been doing a lot more work with Site Models and have come across a couple of situations that would make for a much better experience. Could we have the proposed contours stop at the site modifier defining the limit of grading. This would be more like how it's done traditionally and would read a heck of a lot better. Can we have a tool that would add contour labels where you direct it to by drawing a line across the model with control over middle or top of contours? The current labels seem to generate based on number of vertices and end up in the worst spots. Looking forward to seeing the continued maturation of the software!
  20. Jeff, I don't know if you are going to get what you want with 2017. I know if 2018 you can use a hardscape object with the site modifier at either the top of slab or the bottom however this is exactly as it sounds so if you cut a section to get the 2" "pop" you want your hardscape can only be 2" which will not give you the proper section of the hardscape in section. It would be great if one could have a hardscape with similar parameters as the "Landscape Wall" tool with offsets set by object. Perhaps this can be a future improvement. One possible solution would be to use site modifier "contours" with slope and set them 2" below the top of slab. Could be done easily enough if you offset the original poly and decompose and then make shapes from objects. Best of luck.
  21. BJRobinson, What I have found is that you can use contours with slopes at the top and bottom of walls to get the desired effect. If you want to have the wall slope you should then take you wall tool and modify the top by moving the grips.
  22. @NeilB This is great information. I've built my personal TBB up to a point but want to go next level. Perhaps I missed it but why couldn't you have text pulled directly from the sheet layer field(s), viewport name(s) etc?
  23. When will the hardscape object have the ability to be made up of different components like a wall? Say you are doing concrete pavers on sand setting bed on compacted gravel? Wouldn't it be great if these elements showed in a detail section?
  24. So I want to create a series of symbols that have Marionette wrappers embedded within them. The marionette wrapper would take data from an attached record defining the shape and depth of the symbol. By doing this we can have one symbol that is for all telecom hand holds and by changing the records the marionette wrapper would change the shape and depth of the symbol to match. We could then have one standard top view for a legend but on dimensional control plans we could show the accurate size and have a worksheet that quantifies all the hand holes by size. Not sure if all this made sense but the is the gist of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 0485 services symbols.vwx
