  1. You need to run the installer from the CD, you're missing some key changes to the system. Best Regards, Sean
  2. From the tests I've run and old manuals that I've read, this was never a capability of this tool in 8.5 or 8.0 from my tests. I think its a good wish, however, for a new feature. Best Regards, Sean
  3. In which version of VectorWorks did this capability exist? I've been back through a number of old versions and can't find an extend tool that does this. Regards, Sean
  4. For those users who want to run an English copy and use Chinese or Japanese text in their drawings, we've tried to simplify things in VectorWorks 10.0.1. On the Macintosh, this should work automatically. On Windows, there is a minor change that you need to make to your installed application, it is detailed on the 10.0.1 CD in a file called "Double Byte Support.txt"
  5. One tip: you can disable the docking for any single palette by holding down the control key when moving a palette.
  6. There are two strategies to do this: 1) You can use the "Ungroup" command in the Organize menu to convert the Plug-in to its primitives (lines, text, etc.) These you can edit and then you can regroup the components. 2) You can link text in a symbol to a record which will allow you to have a single notation symbol that changes based on text you enter on the Data pane of the Info Palette. Look in your manual index under "Linking text to record formats" for more information. Regards, Sean
  7. VectorWorks 10 has an option to save without automatically without confirmation. You shouldn't need any scripts to do this now. Regards, Sean
  8. In the Workspace Editor there is a command called "Previous View" in the "Page" category. This is the same command that is executed by the button in the View Bar. If you add it to your workspace, you can assign a key equivalent.
  9. G4-Altivec, We have been able to reproduce the copy and paste crash on Jaguar in house now and are working to develop a fix. As soon as we can develop the fix we'll update the 9.5.3 patch. Regards,Sean
  10. We generally do not release prior information about upcoming releases, and there is no information yet available about the next release of VectorWorks (besides, of course, 9.5.3). Regards,Sean
  11. We plan to have a 9.5.3 patch available quickly, initially as a beta while we continue tests with the final 10.2 version. It will also fix any problems introduced with QuickTime 6. NNA is a long-time supporter of Apple and we continue to aggressively schedule support for their new technology. We now have a much closer relationship with Apple so hopefully this will run more smoothly with future releases.
  12. We do not generally release information about future products. Over the past few years we've worked hard to improve our development systems to make sure that all bug fixes carry forward into future versions, however, so you should see the fixes being made in 9.5.1 and 9.5.2 carry forward into future products.
  13. quote: Originally posted by TiTaNiuM sAMuRai: I understand the no-fill for consistency's sake, but if one is in Plan mode -- not just Top view -- why not fill the 3D faces, as is done with walls? The reason we draw 3D in wireframe in plan view is that there is no way to know which polygons to draw on top unless a rendering is done; rendering is essentially the step that determines which lines and polygons should be visible in that view. Walls (and other "hybrid" objects) have special 2D view constructed for them since they must show up in unrendered 2D drawings correctly. Regards,Sean
  14. Bud, Another case that can cause this to happen is if you have moved a copy of the RenderWorks Library into your extensions folder. Try doing a search on your hard drive to see if you have copy there and delete it if you do. The RenderWorks Library should only be in the sample folder as a VectorWorks application. Regards,Sean
  15. Your problem sounds similar to one we had during betas of 9.5.0 where you updated a 9.0.1 copy that had RenderWorks installed, but did not enter a RW number during the 9.5.0 update. If you remove the Renderworks file that is in the same folder as your 9.5.0 application, can you launch? If so, you'll need to re-run the updater to get a 9.5.0 with RenderWorks (you don't need to download again, just run the updater). Also, could post here and I'll add to the improvements list for the next updater version? Regards,Sean
  16. Luke, If you mean the center point along the arc, use the snap to distance constraint (set to 50%) to find this point. You'll get an "Along Line" hint at the center. If you want the center of the circle included by the arc sweep, the arc must be set to have fill and the snap to objects constraints will snap to it with a "Center" hint. Regards,Sean
  17. The stacking order is maintained properly in VectorWorks 9. Regards,Sean

  19. Chris, The problem is that we don't have a good way to protect RenderWorks rendering in the Viewer. Unless we develop some kind of watermarking system I don't think it will be added. Sorry,Sean
  20. Ken, I'm sorry to hear that you're disappointed with the Viewer, it has been a popular feature of the VectorWorks 9 product line. Customers now have an easier way to convince service bureaus to support VectorWorks and to exchange their drawings with contractors that don't have VectorWorks. The interface is extremely simple compared to a full copy of VectorWorks and I've said before I disagree with you that access to layers and classes are not necessary for other to view drawings. Perhaps not in your case, but for many they are. We developed the Viewer as a "lightwieght" copy of VectorWorks so it retains many basic concepts such as the fact that there is always a selection tool active. This means that drawings have some simple editability but we decided that the value of a Viewer outweighed this disadvantage. We will work in coming versions to improve this. As with any feature that you don't like, you can always choose not to use it if it does not improve your process. The positive feedback we've received, however, indicates that it is a valuable addition to the product line in its current form. Regards,Sean
  21. Ken, Which do you think would aid your drafting more? 1) A single click extend tool (maybe a mode) that extends one line at a time to a selected boundary (a la 8.5). 2) A command that takes all of the selected lines/walls and extends them to a boundary that you click on after picking the command. Regards, Sean
  22. Donald, Are you aware that the location of your click makes a difference? In a crossing case, you can keep either segment so depending on if you click on the short end or the long end will make a difference as to how it is extended (think of a cross rather than a short overlap). I couldn't duplicate the results that you mentioned with this in mind. Regards, Sean ------------------ Sean Flaherty CTO Nemetschek North America flaherty@nemetschek.net
  23. quote: Originally posted by Archken: Sean, the biggest disappointment for the new Connect/Split tools is their general limitation to single segment editing. Either the Connect or the Split tool takes at least two clicks for each action if there is one segment to be edited, while multiple segment editing seems totally overlooked. For example, in version 8 either the Trim tool or the Trim command can be called by a separate shortcut key. If a complex predrawn polygon is the trimming object for a bunch of lines, then one or the other Trim can be called quickly and a marquee selection can pick up the trimmed pieces for deletion. In 9 they're gone. The Split tool seems to work one segment at a time, so the entire complex polygonal shape has to be traced segment by segment requiring two clicks to split at each segment as defined by the polygonal shape. And what if it has curved segments? Similar for the Connect tool. Perhaps I am missing something? Ken, I think you've seen the notes that we'll be re-introducing the Trim tool in 9.5. Are you also aware that the split has a "point" mode that lets you click once and split at that point? The "line" mode also splits multiple objects. With the Connect tool I think you miss many of the efficiencies that have been added. For example, look at a case with two intersecting segments (or nearly intersecting segments) in VW 8. If you wan to "clean-up" the intersection, you need to choose from a variety of tools and commands (trim, extend, join, trim (not to be confused with the other trim), and selection) based on the specific geometry. Now you can use the connect tool to handle all cases, including those where the segment is part of an open path (poly, polyline, 3D poly, NURBS curve). Regards, Sean ------------------ Sean Flaherty CTO Nemetschek North America flaherty@nemetschek.net
  24. Ken, How would you handle the "extension" of a wall to a line? Would you want the wall end capped to match the contour of the line (for example, slanted at the end)? Regards, Sean ------------------ Sean Flaherty CTO Nemetschek North America flaherty@nemetschek.net
  25. The viewer includes classes and layers because many people do not take advantage of the sheets capability. Although I wish that we could get everyone to use the product in all its glory as we designed, many people still use classes and layers manually to set up views. RenderWorks was not included in the viewer because we didn't feel that we could properly protect its functionality. Since there is nothing to keep a user from copying a rendered image out of the package using a screen capture utility. I suggest that you use the Render Bitmap tool to embed rendered images that you want to print or view.
