  1. Does anyone have a 2D plan view symbol for an ATV?
  2. Assume you want a steel door frame to work with standard 8" masonry coursing. 7'-4" = 11 courses @ 8". A door standard height is 7'. With a standard 2" frame, you end up 2" short of standard masonry 8" coursing. Assume also that you want 2" frames at the door jambs. This means that you have 2" frame jambs and, ideally, a 4" door head frame. The VW door part variables don't distinguish between jamb and header sizes.
  3. I need a door frame head that is 4" high so that it matches block coursing for a 7-0 door. This is not uncommon. You would think with all of bells and whistles something as simple as this would be possible.
  4. Katie, Chose Times New Roman or Arial. I've emailed the text in a drawing file.
  5. Romantic is checked in the Text menu. It can be changed to Simplex, or Sans Serif. Otherwise all you get are rectangles instead of text letters. I'm not aware of any text variables in class or layer permissions/options.
  6. The problem is there is text in a VW file that can't be changed to a different font. It appears in 'Romantic'. Can't be changed to Arial or Times New Roman, for example.
  7. eas, Sorry, your original question had to do with where to put notes. In that regard, I would have to agree with those who suggest doing it by annotating the viewport, for the reason, stated above, to keep the design layer/model space unencumbered. For one thing, viewports inevitably change scale. For another, as earlier stated by someone else, the consultants don't need or want your garbage. You can annotate a PDF, if you use Acrobat, but keeping everything on your original document set has something to be said for itself.
  8. The drawing was started in ACAD and not by me.
  9. I imported an ACAD drawing, worked on it in VWA 12.5.1, XP, and exported back to ACAD. Some of the text endeed up with the letters as rectangles (in ACAD). Some of the text, not all of it, changed to 'Romantic' font (in VWA). Likewise, in the VWA drawing, the font, which had originated in ACAD, can be changed to san serif, but some of the fonts, like Times New Roman, end up with the letters as rectangles, not text.
  10. eas, Why not print to a PDF for issuing CA sketches?
  11. Is it possible to copy viewport properties from one viewport to another?
  12. Could it be simply a matter of setting the view to top/plan?
  13. One area not covered: When I create a viewport, in the sheet file I edit the crop line and give it a 0 thickness, so that it doesn't show. To find the crop line, double-click within the viewport, choose crop, and move the mouse around until it finds the now-invisible line. Sometimes it IS hard to find.
  14. In Set 3D View, it's the viewpoint and view angle that are critical, regardless of the origin. In perspective, the 'normal' cone of vision is about 60 degrees, so put the viewpoint quite far away and don't drag the cursor far, in the direction of the subject, once the viewpoint is set by the cursor, or there will be distortion. Always use 'Normal', and not 'Current'. (Why are there options?) And, Set Viewer Ht, or adjust real time. And, always set the viewer ht. and look toward ht. at the same elevation, or you will suffer extreme parallax (3pt. perspective, for which the eye, or mind, under normal circumstances, corrects). You sometimes/usually have to adjust the crop corner marks to get the image into view. Much of the above could/should be set as VW defaults. This would make the process much easier, and then you could make editing adjustments later. When you get it the way you want it, be sure you save the view, so as not to have to do this whole sequence again. Once you get the hang of it, you'll realize it is all very subjective (like art), and you will experience less trial-and-error.
  15. Actually we all upgradedd to V12+ simply because the mirror tool default was changed to retain the original object.
  16. Has anyone had experience integrating these with VW?
  17. Display and printing are, alas two differrent things. Just because it looks gray on a PDF, doesn't mean it will print that way - probably not. PDF is the way to go.
  18. Paperspace is where ACAD's viewports go. Just like VW. X-refs appear in model space (VW design layer) and viewports are defined there and appear in paperspace.
  19. And you're sure these aren't x-refs?
  20. Ray, but, do these ACAD drawings have any work done in Paperspace directly? Dimensioning? Text?
  21. I apologize for the digression, but note that Katie's last entry was at 8:43 of a Friday night!
  22. I'm sorry. Xref is the issue, but I wish NNA would address the work-in-paperespace issue, which seems to be the real hurdle.
  23. Katie, I don't think batch import is the issue. The issue is what does VW do with work done in ACAD paperspace? Turn it around: How does work done in a VW Viewport (Anotation) export to ACAD?
  24. I'm interested in how many firms use VW in the Seattle area? Most software outfits won't share this data. How 'bout in the Boston area (anyone)?
