  1. As complex as the door tool is, it sure would be nice to be able to show hardware: round or lever handles, louvers, kickplates, etc. Under the Part dropdown, there could be "Louver" and you could specify the size. Also there could be "Handle", round and lever. Save "Kickplate" for a future version.
  2. Sarah, it can truly be a nightmare: There's more to it - you end up with a gazillion 3D polygons, when what you want is, at the bare minimun, lines. Also, the importing of an ACAD drawing results in all Blocks being imported as Symbols. It's like everything that is a group in VW being converted into a symbol. In the case of importing an ACAD file, there can be hundreds of resulting "symbols". Unless I am missing something, there may not be a convenient workaround. Plus scale: If you encounter an annotation or drawing done within ACAD's viewports, I challenge you to make use of the ACAD file. Hopefully, this dialog will generate some needed responses. We would be pleased to read Katie's response.
  3. Take a plan layer at, say, 1/4" scale, complete with text notations on the same layer as the plan. Thinking you want to export it at 1:1 scale, you change the layer scale to 1:1. The objects enlarge OK, but many of the text boxes (those that were composed with the Callout tool) are now constrained to a single character width, yielding the result unusable. As a workaround, select all of the Callout objects and change their Max Text Width to say, 48" in the 1:1 layer. The text box is fixed! Then change the layer scale back to 1:48, say, and you notice that the text box is now way off the page! I recall that this isn't a new issue, and I think there is a problem with many of the PIOs, like the North Arrow, for instance. These problems are annoyances, and it seems like these "tools" aren't really very smart. Any fixes in the near future?
  4. Eh? Shift-click on any part of the dimension to attempt to deselect it. What is the "I" part? Try it.
  5. Is this a bug? 1. Select a number of objects. Include a dimension. 2. Deselect the dimension (using shift-click). The dimension can't be deselected. VWA 12.5.2 XP
  6. These are the instructions in VW Help: Cutting 3D Sections The Cut 3D Section command cuts a 3D section, or slice, through a 3D model while leaving the model intact. The slice is placed on a new design layer. To cut a 3D section from a 3D model: 1.Select the 3D model to section. 2.Select Model > Cut 3D Section. The cursor changes to cross-hairs. 3.Click to set the start of the section. In my Model Menu there is no Cut 3D Section command. This makes it difficult to execute. VWA 12.5.2 WXP
  7. Katie, From my experience, you do not necessarily have to hit the alt key.

  9. Katie, as you know, It's usually impossible to identify the number of objects, since VW counts a group or a symbol or a 3D object (of any complexity) as a single object. So with that said, I would say exactly a gazillion.
  10. Using the alt-select is not necessary to replicate the problem. I'm sure there is a relationship between the number of objects selected and whether or not the delete command will work. Selecting a number of 3D objects helps to ensure failure. I've go so far as to reduce the number of undos to zero thinking this might help.
  11. Katie, I can't tell you the degree of zooming - haven't studied it scientifically. This is a persistent problem that has been going on for some time, over several VW versions, and in different drawings, so it can't be unknown to VW techs, and it should be able to be replicated. As Dworks points out, it may have something to do with Alt-Select.
  12. No, it doesn't seem to happen in a new document, and in the drawing in question the problem ended. The drawing is a fat, complex one.
  13. I've tried zooming in and out to different levels, sometimes to good effect and sometimes not. If a group of objects is too large, or complex, it seems, then the less the likelihood of being able to delete them; reducing the number of objects sometimes helps.
  14. Checked and video driver is up-to-date.
  15. Twice within the last ten minutes VW crashed while attempting to use the Double-Line Polygon Tool. It occurred both times in the process of clicking a second time to add a second segment to a polygon. WXP VW 12.5.2
  16. Katie, since they are simple objects that are selected, and you can see their handles, how can the problem be the video driver? What does the delete command have to do with the video driver?
  17. If I select a certain number of objects and hit the delete button nothing happens. I've noticed this before. It seems that sometimes if you zoom in on the objects, then they can be deleted. And sometimes if you hit Ctrl-x, they will disappear. This is 12.5.2 on a WXP PC, but I think this is a long-running problem. Is this a bug?
  18. Yes, I viewed the new symbol in isometric, and the extrudes were not there. That view was done within Edit Symbol. You're right - the 3D components do not show unless viewing 3D.
  19. Is this a bug? A 3D Model, with roofs, walls and extrudes, dumps the extrudes when a symbol is created. The class of the extrudes is on (same class as the rest of the model). VW 12.5.1 WXP
  20. I think I know what the problem is: If you create a new object in a design layer, in a new class, it will be invisible in the viewport. It is annoying that this is the default; it could be otherwise. The same is true with the Save View command. It will not recognize any new classes (or layers) that are created after the fact. A good wish list item for Viewports and Save View would be to for these components to include, as visible, any newly-created classes and layers. As it is, as one adds information and complexity to a file, already-created viewports and saved views take a lot of time-consuming catching-up.
  21. Include degrees of slope (relative to ground plane) for line and object properties, so that after drawing a line, say, you can see its angle and change its angle.
  22. The reason for posting this here is to see if I'm missing something.
