  1. Hi All, We are starting to use the space tool regularly for our area scheduling however we are very restricted by the number of fields that do not behave like numbers and so can't be summed or included in formulas. For instance the 'number of occupants' - we need to add up these fields for escape purposes. None of the user defined fields act as numbers either so we cant even fudge it (perhaps using the proposed area field but we need more than 1 manually entered number field) It seems like none of the user data fields behave like numbers even those that you would expect like count fields. Does anyone know if 2013 has rectified this, as we are updating soon? Thanks Tim
  2. NO worries Pat - thanks for your input - good to know it is not just something I was doing wrong. I can imput manually for now anyway.
  3. Thanks for looking at this Pat, - I can't recreate that behavior. I have follwed the steps as you describe, and tried an example in a clean worksheet and it still will treat a numerical entry as a number even if I have the cell format set to text?? I'm not sure if it is a preferences thing - I have tested it on a couple of machines in our office and got the same behavior. Do you have any thoughts on why the results these formula return are out by a factor of 2? Tim
  4. Hi Pat, Sample file attached - I would like the formulas to read from the parameters in Column B (ie Floor level, building, position) which relate to fields from my space objects. It works for fields that have text inputs (A,B,C etc) but not for numerical input. I guess a work around would be to use 'One' instead of '1' for floor level etc but this seems a bit clumsy. I have pasted my spaces into a clean worksheet so I am pretty sure there aren't duplicates and there are no viewports. Thanks, Tim
  5. Is it possible to set the criteria for a database row from a worksheet cell? I am preparing an area summary for a project that has multiple storeys. I would like to be able to enter the floor (or any other criteria for that matter) in a cell on the worksheet and for the various database rows that I have to then use that input. ie. at the moment the database criteria is (('Space'.'11_Floor'='X')) where X is the floor number manually inputed. I woudl like to enter a cell reference in place of X however this doesn't seem to work. I have tried 'B2', '=B2' and =B2 to no avail. I have also changed the formating of B2 to text to see if that helped. This seems to be related to the number formating of the cell - it works fine for text based input as just =B2 (eg if I set the Floor value to A in my space and enter A in B2 then the formula calculates correctly. On a similar topic when I use the CriteriaArea function for the gross areas of spaces my results are all out by a factor of 2 - does anyone know what I am doing wrong?
  6. I am having this issue with design layer viewports. The walls are copied and pasted-in-place, and work in the base file but when I reference them I get lines appearing between walls - has anyone come across this before?
  7. I am having this issue too, changing units to m does help but as we use mm across all our other drawings it is a confusing workflow - it doesn't seem to happen with all our site models just on occasions and is very frustrating when it does occur. Also working with such low precision can lead to errors and makes working on the sheet layer very difficult.
  8. I gave the wall style a single component of the width that I required and the recess tool seems to work as promised. It is only at planning stage so we don't need to show the detailed build up of the wall yet.
  9. I still can't make it work with a styled wall - I have a styled wall but without any componenets and the same thing is happening, I have tested an unstyled wall with some random compnents and it seems to work then. Does anyone know if you need to have components (even with styled walls) for this feature to work correctly?
  10. I am producing live elevations (using section viewports with background render RW & foreground render HL) from my building model. When I attempt to enter the annotations layer of the viewport the rendered elevation turns into wireframe with the result that it is extremely difficult to identify the correct location for my annotations (as all the internal walls & doors clutter up the elevations)and I have to re-render the elevation which is time consuming. Does anyone else have this problem - is there a setting which I can adjust to stop this happening?
  11. I totally second this one - it has been a real pain to create custom doors just for Assymetric doors.
  12. Hi Aasemblage, Have you had any further luck with this? We were hoping the notes manger had reached a usable level of functionality too, as we currently use the notes as sybols technique as you have outlined (with a concurrent excel database for searching generating a huge duplication of effort). Second your final comments on notes functionality too.
