  1. Hi @Andy Broomell, I've been using your Drawing List for years (including from the Sheet Border days!) I was wondering if you might have a solution to  a Drawing List that runs too long for the sheet size? In the past, I've just inserted two instances of the Worksheet and covered up w/ white rectangles but I was revisiting to see if there's a more elegant solution. Thanks for any tips/ideas you or others might have!

  2. I created a worksheet to use as a sheet index, pulling info from my sheet borders/titleblocks.

The worksheet pulls several extra blank rows and I can't figure out how to get rid of them. Screenshot attached. I'm confused because there are 12 sheets and the header of row 2 correctly indicates 12. But there are 22 rows? How can I get rid of these? Messing around with adding a Criteria, it looks like I have 22 sheet borders, 12 of which have the right record attached. How do I find those extra 10 and get rid of them? I couldn't figure out how to use the Criteria to do it.....

    Thanks.

  3. Hi Alan,

I tried the same thing and they are still not updating. Everything else seems to be working fine... the Drawing Label's number/sheet/scale all work correctly and my title block coordination seems right. Is there some other setting I need to adjust? Just to be clear, here's what I'm doing:

Select a viewport, go to the Data tab and enter in a name for the viewport. Then I use the Drawing Label tool and insert a label into the viewport's annotations. I just leave the options as is (the Drawing Title field is automatically filled in with the file name in the dialog box). Then the label appears and it just has "[Drawing Title]" in that field -- I am hoping for the viewport name to show up here instead. I think that's how it's supposed to work?

    Thanks!

  4. Hi, I have a similar issue. When I enter in my Drawing Labels, the Drawing Title does not automatically enter in my Viewport Name, even though I have the automatic drawing coordination turned on. I can't even seem to change the default title... it just always fills in [Drawing Title] when I place the Drawing Label inside a viewport's annotations. The default was my file name and if I change the Drawing Title field in the options, it only uses that new default if I place the label on my sheet layer, not inside the annotations.

I've attached the file in case that helps.

    Am I missing something?

  5. I think I have a similar question as the original poster here:

My new office uses the section marker as shown in the attached screen shot. The problem is that this marker has 3 text fields instead of the usual 2. Top number and bottom right are drawing and sheet number respectively -- normal. The bottom left number refers to the sheet number that the drawing is from (ie., the sheet that the floor plan is on) -- weird to me, but not my call.

Ideally, I would like to be able to use this marker with automatic coordination but have not yet figured out a way to do this. The closest I have gotten is by doing the following:

    1) In the Section Markers file, created a new symbol that looks like this. Inside this symbol, I added a text field that is linked to a record that pulls the sheet number (using _SN suffix).

    2) In my drawing file, I go to my section viewport and turn on the section line instance on for the Plan drawing. The section line appears on the plan and I select my new marker symbol as the marker style. I then have to uncheck the “Text Auto-Fill” box and then manually enter in a bunch of spaces in front of the Sheet Number (EX201) so it is scooted over to the right instead of being center aligned with the drawing number (5).

So this is really clunky and is only semi-coordinated (only works if I keep text auto-fill checked until I am positive about the layout of my sheets, then go back and uncheck them all.) Plus, if I use the marker at a different scale, the font sizes don't match up.

Is there another way to accomplish this? I thought another way to do this might be to create a marker symbol with fields that automatically refer to the appropriate viewport (in addition to the field that refers to the current sheet number). Then just insert it a symbol and skip the Section Line altogether. But I haven't been able to figure out how to make the fields that refer to the drawing number and sheet number of a specific viewport.

    Any suggestions/ideas appreciated!

  6. Turns out my computer has an integrated graphics accelerator as well as a higher end graphics card and it was defaulting to use the integrated one. Works fine now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

  7. I've been adding image props to show photographs on my walls for an exhibit. As I was adding them, I would go to a camera view in Open GL to see the image props. After adding about 20 or so, going into Open GL mode would cause Vectorworks to freeze up. I've played around, re-done all the image props with lower res images (and deleting the original image textures) so that the file size was reduced greatly down from 45MB to 13.5MB. However, it still happens. If I turn the image prop class to be invisible, the rendering is fine and I am able to use the Walkthrough tool in the empty gallery. I made a second class for the image props and played around with having fewer image props and everything works fine when there are fewer (15 or so image props).

I haven't used image props much since I started using this computer, but when I check the Task Manager, it looks like I am using 73% of the computer's memory when I try to open GL render a view with all the image props?

Is it a graphics card issue? Memory issue? File issue? (Other files seem to work okay, but I don't typically use many image props).

File is too big to upload here, but I've uploaded it here:

(I actually can't even open this file anymore because the last time it saved, it was in Open GL mode, so if it opens for someone else, that would be helpful to know)

  8. Hi Pat,

The problem was inserting them at all. Whenever I chose the Door tool, it would revert to the Selection tool as soon as I moved the cursor over the drawing space, as Grant described. The strange thing is that I can use the Window tool just fine. I was originally working on a DWG drawing that I'd imported.... I tried it on another drawing, with a lot fewer components and it was still giving me the same problem.

I just started a new document and it seems to be working fine in the new document.

As for class/layer/object names, I don't have any named just "Door" but I have a couple classes with names that contain the word "door" so perhaps that was the problem.

  9. Hi all, I seem to be having the exact same problem that Grant (the original poster) wrote about. I'm using VW2011 so I'm not sure the problem is the same as what nbahnij and Judah Warshaw are talking about above... but I went ahead and did the Workspace Editor fix anyway. Problem is still occurring.

Grant -- Did you ever manage to fix your problem? I don't see a follow up post from you....

  10. Hi, thanks for taking the time to take a look. I just checked for updates and it says:

You are running VectorWorks 2008 Service Pack 3 (Build 88670). No application updates are necessary at this time.

I'm at a loss but at least relieved that someone can confirm the odd behavior.

Thanks for the help. I'll just have to figure out a way around all of this...

  11. Hello everyone,

I've been using Vectorworks for several years but am just starting to learn to use the sheet layers and viewports. I'm working on my second file using viewports and have run into some problems, hence my first post here!

I've attached the file here. As you can see, on Sheet Layer-2, I've got 2 viewports. One shows just the base of my object, the other, the frame for box. (they are on the same Design Layer, but are in different classes).

    A few things I don't understand:

    1) For the left viewport, if I uncheck "Project 2D objects" it won't let me select or move the viewport?? That is not what I understand that checkbox to mean? There shouldn't be any 2D objects at all in the entire file. Checking and unchecking the same box when selecting the right viewport doesn't seem to change anything at all. This isn't that important but it kind of irks me because I can't understand what's going on.

    2) The main problem: the rendering modes don't seem to do at all what they're supposed to. Everything worked like a charm on the first file I tried all this on.

2a) Hidden line rendering and dashed hidden line don't seem to do anything. It just looks like Wireframe.

2b) OpenGL makes the entire viewport go blank, even though there's no crop on the viewport and all my objects are solids with colors....

2c) Sketch seems to be the only rendering mode that does what I would think it would do.

2d) I don't really understand the difference between background and foreground rendering. When I select Sketch (the only mode that seems to work), for either background or foreground rendering, it looks the same... my object gets rendered in Sketch (no background objects anyway).

I tried looking through the forum for similar problems and most rendering problems seem to do with RAM, but my file size is very small and the object in the file is relatively simple with no textures applied.

    Any help is much appreciated!!

BTW, my version of Vectorworks is 2008 Architect without Renderworks.
