  1. Through the nvidia control panel, there is a command "check for updates"? I had an update a couple days ago.
  2. Attached is the file, you'll see the wall going up to the roof with the shed dormer. Curious to see if you have the same problem. The 3D reshape tool is a good idea, but it's a little tedious.
  3. I have a single wall that I'm trying to fit to 2 various roof slabs that are side by side along the walls length, but it only fits to the lowest roof slab when I run the command and ignores the higher roof slab... Is drawing 2 walls the only solution because it's a little annoying if windows/doord are required at these 2 wall junctions.
  4. Would be great to have the following abilities for the "Dimension exterior walls" command: 1. In the "Dimension walls to field" add: To ext face of wall component core component as set in wall style. 2. Add options for radio button "Dimension T-joins in ext walls": Center of wall, Face of wall or face of core component as set in wall styles. I would actually use this tools with these options added. Hope you's be listenin'
  5. Any one had this issue on PC? When I use the "Ctrl+press mouse scroll wheel" to orbit around my model I only get a bounding box around the model until I finish the movement and let go of the buttons. But when I use the flyover tool the whole model rotates as is. How can I get my mouse flyover to show me the whole model and not just a bounding box? Thanks,
  6. Hi Ray, thanks for the suggestion but all my drivers are up to date, graphics card, Bios, processor chip and windows 7. Any other suggestions? I notice in your signature that your running VW 2011, this may be the stability difference, or are you doing mainly modeling or 2D drafting?
  7. TOO MUCH VERSATILITY OR JUST NOT ENOUGH CLARITY?...YOU PICK! Ya know back on this Stories issue, as example of confusing look at a basic thing such as wall heights, it can be set/modified via any of the following; -Layer settings -Default Story Layers dialog box -Wall styles preferences dialog box We can input different numbers everywhere but it's not clear which setting overrides another or is simply cumulative...not clear or too versatile? You Pick! Here's another one. The default Stories "Names" vs the "Level types" in the "default story Layers" Dialogue box; Whats the difference? their named the same in the out of the box software. Also, When you give these Level types a name such as "Floor" or "Slab" , you'd think you could tell me if I'm going to be drawing the Top or Bottom of Slab when I'm going to be using the slab tool, no, I have to guess. Now that I got that off my chest, I THINK THE PROGRAMS FUNCTIONALITY IS THERE, BUT IT'S ALL ABOUT SEMANTICS that the program engineers need to get their head around and then explain it to us or even better make it so clear and versatile that I don't need this forum to be able to use the function.
  8. I'm experiencing many crashes in a day as well, the stability of VW is not impressive to date. I sure hope NNA engineers are hard at work cause this is my 2nd project on this VW program and I'll just scrap it (or maybe just use it as a PDF to DWG converter)if the next service pack does not come out soon and fix this. I've been monitoring my CPU and GPU usage % and it is nowhere near being maxed out, so this leads me to believe it's just sloppy programming.
  9. Same problem here, i'm new to this software and I had hopes of greener pastures but it's starting to appear that it's got all the same issues as the competitions...Half-baked software programing... All the same issues as ADT circa 2005. We're on a road to nowhere! Oh yeah we're takin' our time.
  10. So simple, yet it can drive me nuts. I am so happy this forum exists!
  11. Can anyone tell me how to modify the font size of the DTM Contour elevation text labels. I've created a site plan and put it into a viewport at 1/16"=1'-0" but the text for the contour labels is tiny. Thanks,
  12. Is there a way to connect walls that are in line with each other from end to end. After eliminating some exterior wall notches I end up with this condition.
  13. Thanks M. Pickup, probably quicker than fiddling with the settings, I'll go searching the local manufacturers websites to see if they have some DWG/DXF blocks available to avoid me the pain of creating my own engineered structure components catalog.
  14. Oh I got it now, semantic confusion. It's labelled "Wood Floor Truss" but if you check the box "use solid web", give it a thick 1 1/2" flange and a thin 3/8" web shows like what I call an I-joist and not a "Truss" which usually has a triangulated rigid web by definition. Still a very flexible tool, just don't agree with the semantics. Thanks,
  15. Thanks, but can I access those I-joist symbols to use with the "create joist from polys" command?
  16. I saw a nice video w/ Wes Gardner of NNA doing a floor framing drawing w/ I-Joists but I don't have this as an option in the floor framing tool drop down box nor in my stock libraries through the resource browser. It just seems odd that I'd have to go hunt down engineered lumber sections (I-joists, LVL's, PSL's etc..)it being pretty much the current north American standard for framing floors in residential and small commercial projects? Maybe someone could help? Much appreciated!
  17. Can anyone tell me what this function is commonly used for? And How, when I select it does not even have the same view as my viewport. Thanks,
  18. Hi, i've searched the forum but can't find anything on this.. Is there a way to have the window ID-Tag create a new unique sequential number automatically, instead of having to re-enter the settings dialog every time. I usually start inserting a bunch of identical windows at once so doing this manual numbering is dull and slow. Thanks
  19. Well thanks for all your two cents, I agree christiaan that your suggestion would be best but I'm assuming they would have done that in 2011 if it was possible. I read a recent article where Biplap mentioned NV was already pushing the limits of what is possible with the parasolids engine. Maybe NV could read this and fill us in.
  20. Extracted planer faces should have the ability to be associative to it's relative wall. This would allow to modify wall length or height and we would not have to redo all are elevation hatches. just a productivity thought.
  21. Would it be nice if there was a new bldg cladding set of tools where you could detail on all your wall faces siding and masonry corner details, belly bands, window perimeter and cornice detail ect. It would really be BIM cladding with emphasis on the information because then we could not only extract siding quantities but also trim work quantities (being an ex-estimator, trim and corner bricks can cost as much as the cladding).
  22. Hi, so I was all excited when I saw the new extract planer faces, but I'm still having trouble. What is the best and easiest way to create a black and white hatch on my elevations (ie: on exterior bldg walls). I would like to be able to stretch the walls afterward and have the cladding hatch pattern associative to the new wall length. I tried the extract planer face and hatched it but is there a way to make the extracted planer face associative to the wall? (and it's openings). I tried to simply pull on the extracted planer faces control handles but all the openings are no longer aligned. The other problem I encountered is I also need to modify the extracted plane so it does not hatch over the corner trims I add to my elevations. Any suggestions?
  23. Ok Ok, so can you tell me how to create these custom textures on the fly?...can't seem to figure it out. Do I need to Photoshop one? Another thought, can I do a hatch pattern and turn it into texture? That could be quick!
  24. Thanks, but how can I do that in just plain black & white line drawings for perspectives and elevations?
  25. Sorry but this method does not help me getting me perspectives looking like my elevations. Seems theres only a 2d solution here. To end this thread, will someone from NNA step up to plate and let us know if they are dealing with this program short coming. Personally, I don't care! I'm just in the process of trying 30 day trials of various software (while things are slow) to decide which one to invest in. I like many aspects of VW vs competition but I cannot go with it unless I know what NNA roadpath for VW is headed towards...hey fair enough maybe they don't know themselves. But most firms need to know this type of stuff before investing a lot of time and money. www.fpwi.ca
