  1. Thank you all for the suggestions. Farookey, I'll try your method as it sounds like it will solve what I'm trying to achieve.
  2. I've use the 'Create Roof' tool to create a roof and the design dictates that I cut a notch out of the corner. Is there a way to modify this in a way that would be similar to the 'clip surface' command we use for modifying polygons? I'm looking for a shortcut that would save me having to redraw the whole roof just to accommodate a notch in the corner. Thanks in advance.
  3. When I try to update one of my elevations, by clicking the 'update' button in the Obj. Info. box, the whole drawing hangs up and I have to do a forced quit to exit VWs. Any thoughts as to why this is happening? It's only happening with one of my sheets of elevations in the file and not with any of the other sheets. Thanks very much!
  4. DWorks, your suggestion worked. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
  5. I'll give that a shot. Thank you!
  6. Can't find any topics on this by searching the forum...is there a way to change the text size in the title blocks that come with VW 2010? Thanks in advance.
  7. Thank you Pat. I think that's my problem. That option was turned off and I wasn't even aware that it existed! Cheers!
  8. I'm suddenly having a problem where a window won't 'insert' into a wall properly. Previously, when I inserted a window, the wall lines would turn red and it seemed like the wall 'sucked' the window into location. Now, nada. A second problem is that when windows would be inserted in walls and I go to render an elevation, all that appears is the jamb, sill and head (essentially the window frame) and none of the other details would appear (such as awnings or sashes, etc.). It's as if those elements of the window are being obscured by the wall. Does anyone have any suggestions for solving my problem? Thanks a lot!
  9. Thanks for the explanation! I, too, didn't clue into the bit about dragging the icon to the header.
  10. I've searched topics but can't find an answer for my problem. I want to manually edit a dimension, that is fudge the text, without having the dimension lines themselves adjust to the updated number. Does anyone know how to do this? The only thing I can think of is ungrouping a dimension and then adding the text I want. In autocad, editing the text within a dimension is easy.
  11. Thanks for the tips. I'll see if I can't come up with something that works without creating too much busy work. Islandmon, I'm not sure I'm clear on your suggestion. When you say crop and frame, do you mean to create a viewport? I can see taking a building section and then creating a viewport at each location that one would draw a detail.
  12. Do your create details from the building sections drawn in Vectorworks, or do you create the details from scratch. If the former, is there a way to do a detail bubble on the section and link to another page? I'm assuming the simplest way to do this is to create a viewport of the area to become a detail and link it to a detail sheet. I suppose what I'm really wondering, is what method of creating details is most efficient and accurate?
  13. I'll have a look at that and see if it is the problem. Thank you!
  14. For some reason my stairs have started 'floating' when I view my drawing in 3D (isometric views). That is, they appear in isometric, but are also appearing as themselves in plan form within the isometric. It's as if they have somehow become unanchored or disassociated with the drawing somehow. Is there any way for me to 'anchor' them back to the drawing? Thanks kindly.
  15. Thanks for the tips and advice Wes. Your last sentence is very true. I've been using Autocad for 20 years and VW is a very different way of drawing requiring a different way of thinking about the process of drawing. I'm slowly getting my head around it.
  16. Thanks again, Jonathan. I tried your section option, with the 3D view, and was fumbling along but figured out what I was doing wrong. I wasn't updating the viewports as soon as they were created. I was getting frustrated because I'd create the viewport and see only a wireframe drawing despite creating a hidden line rendering during the viewport creation process. I finally right clicked and saw the update command and gave that a try. Well, that solved the problem. I'm slow, but it sinks in eventually!
  17. Thanks Jonathan. I'll have to pick that up when I'm able.
  18. Wes, thanks for the tips. Where I'm having problems is with the actual viewports themselves. Should I be creating viewports using the elevations I set up on my Mod-Section/Elevations layer from the Mod-3D Model layer, or from somewhere else? I've been doing this and seem to be having problems.
  19. Jonathan, thanks for your reply, I tried creating the viewport of the elevations that I created, but when I go to the elevation sheet, I see only a rectangle, but no elevation. When I double click the rectangle as if to edit, I see the elevation, but when I exit that view I'm again seeing only a rectangle. I checked to make sure I had no fill selected on my viewport. Where am I going wrong? I'm not having any problem with floor plans, just elevations.
  20. I'm sure there is a simple solution, but I'm getting frustrated finding it. I've worked my way through Mr. Pickup's 'Vectorworks Essential Tutorial Manual' a couple of times and am using it (along with his VW Architect Tutorial Manual) as my guide as I put together a set of drawings for a small house addition. I've created elevations according to his instructions using the Mod-3D Model Layer and forming the elevations front, left, right, back and placed them on Mod-Section/Elevations layer (pages 144 thru 151 of the manual). How do I get these elevations from the Mod-Section/Elevations layer to a sheet layer? If I try transferring them to my elevation sheet, the scale is lost (the scale reverts to 1:1) and I can't do anything to adjust the scale in the sheet layer. At least I don't see a way of doing it. Can anyone help me set up an elevation sheet drawing properly? Thanks kindly!
  21. Thanks for the tip. I used the 3d loci and also set the elevation in the object info pane. It seems to have worked fine. If one uses the stake object tool, does it do other things that the 3d loci doesn't?
  22. Thanks Peter, I'll give that a try. Setting up 3D loci should be fairly straightforward. Also, thanks for the tip re: a signature.
  23. I can see how one sets up a Site Plan when you have a survey that shows contour lines. Most of my survey plans come not with contours, but elevation points, instead. Is anyone able to show me how to create a Terrain Model from such a survey? Thanks kindly!
  24. Yes indeed! It'll all fall into place eventually. Thanks again.
