  1. Companies as large as Nemetschek (especially public ones) do not "care" about the end user, period. Regardless of how good a single salesperson or support person is (or teams of people for that matter). Companies care about making as much money off of their customers as possible. Nemetschek made a calculated decision that it would not seriously affect their bottom line by the amount of people pissed off by this decision. Time will tell if they are right, however usually they are. The price of Adobe's stock rose 50% in the 12 months following the introduction of subscription pricing.

Personally I see nothing wrong with any of this, the goal of any company is (or should be!) to make as much money as possible. If decisions like this lead to enough backlash or bad PR, then usually companies reverse course or go out of business.

  2. This is probably going to sound crazy...but ever since I upgraded to VW2022 I have been having nothing but problems with MS Office, and I believe it has to do with Vectorworks. Today I was working in VW and opened a Word document that has nothing to do with Vectorworks, and I got the error message in the attached image. The message specifically says something about Vectorworks, yet this Word document is a calendar I use for scheduling and has nothing to do with Vectorworks, and the file becomes permanently corrupted. Opening them on another computer or reinstalling Word does nothing to fix the files. This has happened to me several times.

The same thing has happened with Excel documents I am opening when Vectorworks is open; it permanently corrupts the file. Files that opened just minutes earlier become corrupt when I attempt to open them and when Vectorworks is open.

Is this something anyone has ever heard of before?

  3. Is there a way to utilize the hoist tool for self-climbing truss? Specifically want to be able to use the 3D function to take the chain up and over a tower header and back down to the truss being lifted. All the videos I've found online only show the tool being used for truss hung from a ceiling. Thanks in advance!

  4. My company produces events in hotel ballrooms & convention centers, many of which don't have CAD drawings or even floorplans. I have been loosely following 3D scanning technology the past few years and am interested in purchasing a 3D scanner that I will then be able to import into VW to create accurate diagrams & floorplans (to avoid things like chandeliers, doorways, etc when designing stages).

My major concern is most of the ones I have seen (Matterport, Metareal, etc) are aimed towards residential real estate...I am more concerned with accurate measurements and dimensions. Some of these ballrooms & convention halls are massive, with 30+ foot high ceilings, so I need something with a decent range that is accurate.

I have come across an iPhone app called "Magicplan" that actually looks pretty promising, but is geared more to the home construction and remodel industry. I am going to download the app and see if it will work for my needs, but I'm nervous things like chandeliers and recessed ceilings will be difficult to account for. I think I may need something a little more higher-end.

Does anyone have any recommendations on products and/or workflow? Thanks in advance!

  5. Just now, Pat Stanford said:

As with all of the Always/Never dialog box preferences, your can reset it to default from the Vectorworks Preferences:Session tab:Reset Saved Setting... button at the top right.

But there is not way to undo just the one, you have to reset them all back to default and answer the questions again for everything.  😞

Awesome, this is exactly what I needed. Thank You!

  6. I upgraded to VW2019 from VW2018 and am having an awful issue...my projects open fine in Wireview, however when I choose a different renderer (I use Open GL) it immediately shows blinking blocks around the entire workspace area, see images below. These blocks change patterns constantly regardless of whether I move through the workspace with the orbit tool. I also included the image of when I first open the project and as you can see it looks fine.

This happens with all of my projects and does not happen in 2018 with projects I have not yet migrated to VW2019. Any ideas what could be causing this and how to fix? Thanks.

  7. Hello,

I use VW 2017 and need to purchase a new PC laptop. In January I purchased a new MSI WS60, which I thought would work great for Vectorworks. It was AWFUL. I hook it up to an external 1920x1080 USB 3.0 monitor (Asus MB168B+) and I had to lower the resolution of the laptop monitor to adjust, which I have no problem with. The problem is the text scaling was always off (regardless of the DPI & cleartext settings) and the windows in VectorWorks NEVER maintained their correct location if I closed and opened the app, or restarted or anything. I also had tons of the "ghosting" lines around the windows when I moved them. On my desktop, I have no problems. Using a different monitor isn't really an option because all of my travel kits (I'm always on the road) already have this monitor.

So I am asking for recommendations on a model or brand of laptop that will work better. I bought the MSI because it was marketed as a CAD laptop, but it was terrible. Budget isn't really an issue for me, I use this laptop every day on the road for my job. I don't really do any serious rendering, just wireframe documents exported to PDF.  I would like the laptop to be same size as the MSI WS60 so it fits in all my bags....the size of that was 15.3 x 10.5 x 0.8 inches.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank You.

  8. Hello,

I am looking into purchasing either an MSI WS60 or MSI WT60 for VW2016. What are the main differences between these two units? My main attraction to the WS60 is that it is a lot thinner and stylish. I am currently using a Macbook Pro (early 2013) in dual-boot (using VW2010 on the PC side) but due to a combination of Win 10 on Boot Camp and VW2010 I am having some stability issues. I use an external 1920x1080 USB 3.0 monitor, and in order to spread palettes to the second monitor I need to run the resolution of the Macbook Pro at 1920x1080, which looks terrible. My main question is the difference between the Nvidia Quadro m2000m graphics card in the WS60 and the Nvidia Quadro K3100m in the WT60.

Does anyone have any recommendations on these 2 machines? Should I put VW2016 on my Macbook Pro and give that a shot before jumping to a new machine?

    Thanks!
