  1. Hey Kevin... Well, when I try #2 nothing happens. I don't see an image at all. The only time I actually see a image is when I do #1 -- but that's only in Wireframe. And def not in Renderworks Viewport on the sheet layer. (visual via Camera Viewport) 1) I build the Picture Frame (elaborate extrusion) (open in the center.... 2) Created a 5x8x.25 extrusion for the image to attach to... working plane (?) upstage of the 'frame'. 3) then attempted and attempted to get the image to be there... in any shape or fashion. I tried everything to make sure it's not behind the other scenic elements... except the frame opening. I'll try again in daylight hours here in Miami....... Thank you -- Preston
  2. This should be basic... but I might not be searching the right words. On this set piece I have created a 5'h x 8'w picture frame. And within it I would like to place this jpg/png image. Easy! NOT! 1) I imported the image--and resized it to fit in the frame. In Wireframe--looks good! Once I render to GL or any other it disappears. 2) I imported the image into the ResBrowser as an Image Prop-- attempted to place it to the working plane of the "flat" behind the frame... no good. 3) I imported it into the Images browser and attempted to apply it from the Attributes>Fill>Image... nada. I can't find the references in any of the Help or Knowledge Base -- but I might not be using the right terms to make it happen. I've spent nearly 6h on this today... and am totally frustrated beyond belief for something that should be completely basic Vectorworks-101! Ideas? Thank y'all!
  3. I am doing a quick consult for a small theatre conversion--but for the rendering we need to have the Stage Lighting in view... but that turns off all of the ambient light! (aarrgghhh) So I'm throwing in some PAR's for a down houselight look... do I have to make a separate Focus Point for each of the vertical down-lights? THX...
  4. @klinzey -- thank you... I will go back and replace all--but I've not added any ETC resources from a 3rd party... Honestly--I didn't check the actual angle... I played with one--and it appeared to be 45-deg... I'm not sure what happened... unless I used a VW2014 symbol in the VW2015 drawing. Is simply replacing all the fixtures the answer? THX.....
  5. It seems to be just this file. I'm using the VW supplied library of ETC Source-4's. If I edit the 3D resource--it shows it at the 45-deg angle as wanted in the rendering. In the past, they seemed to only react that way if they were not actually hanging on a "Lighting Position". There's a setting somewhere that I've screwed up--just how to find it!??!?!??!
  6. I have issues with all instruments facing straight down. They are placed on "Lighting Positions" and everything in the OIP looks right... what have I done? THX! Preston
  7. I have not found any real comprehensive training vids, etc., on how to use and manipulate the WORKING PLANES. I need to diagonally crop a wall--add an image or extrude to another object that isn't in plan-view. In Spotlight--using the Truss tool that will be vertical--especially while creating scenic elements. The very short and not really very comprehensive YouTube vid doesn't delve into what/why/how, etc. I am just having too many problems making it work. And I always seem to be on a deadline--not that much "Play Time". THX! Preston
  8. the Label is in another location--off to the "right"...
  9. Thank you! This rotation theory worked GREAT for me! Now--I have this odd Bounding Box that is the same 'footprint' of the truss in the HZ position. And it is double-width! (?) Basically looking like there's another placed just to the left of the vertical truss. Is this because I: 1) Stacked two (2) 10' sticks... 2) Grouped them... 3) Converted to Lighting Position? It's just irritation. THX! BTW: I'm tracing over an AutoCAD import/conversion--if that makes a difference.
  10. Thank you! There's a lot of information to digest--now for me to try it all! I'll let y'all know how it comes out.
  11. one of those questions.... in the Title Block--there are some fields that don't have information when in the 'edit symbol' screen. I will see an outlined yellow box, but if I change the font, it doesn't change the font on the sheet-layer. The field will also, many times, disappear/delete. (???) What else am I doing wrong here? THX !!!
  12. OK... the new font did export -- but why would it only affect this single file? I've just opened others with the same title block, and the proper font exports. (???) Or is this file just never going to export this font? (suggesting that I start over...)
  13. The Title Block is there. It's the TYPE that's not showing. (sorry for my unclear information) The title block consists of two images (my logo & client logo) Both are exporting. All lines are exporting. Just the font: "Flex Architect". But that seems to be restricted to JUST this copy of the file. Other files and projects export just fine. ??? I've rebooted twice, just in case........
  14. I am exporting a Sheet Layer to PDF; and with this file, the Title Block information is blank/empty. (???) I can edit Title Block from the Resource Browser, and the type is all in the 'NONE' class -- the class is visible. I can see it on the screen--then the exported type is missing. I have [x} the Rasterize Text. It is a font that I purchased--and earlier today on different files, the font exports to the PDF. Is there something that I am missing? (I'm sure it's operator error...) I used a file from a previous job that I "Save A New Copy" (a new design for a theatre that I work in frequently) then I deleted the old-show information. All other information appears to be exporting--just not the Title Block. Ideas?
  15. WOW! I'll try that. I used the new 2014 Lighting Postion tool, so I will: 1) Delete what I have 2) Draw the TWO pipes 3) Group them 4) Convert to Lighting Position Then all numbering will be cohesive and continuous. GREAT... thx...
  16. For SPOTLIGHT: For adding/designing Scenery; 1) how to add surface painting and textures to the fa?ade of the element (manipulation of working planes) (inserting wall-hangings, pictures, wall sconces, etc.) 2) the correct way to build architectural features on the scenic fa?ade 3) proper VW fashion on how to build actual platforming, etc. When building your Theatre--the VW way to build-out: 4) Seating Risers & steps/stairs 5) Architectural Features; pillars and various obstacles 6) Insert Roof Trussing (many theatres use the steel trussing and needs to be a part of the renderings on how lighting hangs and scenery fits, etc. Many of the above might be a standard part of Architect Workspace--but how does VW want us to manipulate it in Spotlight? Many are just extrusion work-arounds. Is there a VW "Proper Method" for doing so? Thank you.
  17. What I have here; a roof support beam that splits my 3rd Electric at an odd angle. I would like the two (2) pipes to react as one (1)--Mainly for Lightwright purposes and Instrument Numbering. Basically ONE postion that consists of two pipes with a 4' gap for the odd-diagonal support beam. Do I need to create a rectangle with white fill, and no-color line and place it "over" the gap? Thanx y'all! Preston
  18. #JimW; Thank you. It seems that this tool has taken several steps backwards. The issues with the Bounding Boxes have made the tool rather useless for "real" applications. I have manually placed each table and each chair within the space. And that works ok... time consuming and not as accurate--but at least I've got it for the client to see "something"!
  19. I can manually layout tables--place chairs. But when I try and use the tool; I get a chart with "0" tables and an error across the drawing; "Shape is too small for seating layout.". What am I doing wrong? A drawing that I did in VW2010 was fine with its seating, now it says, when converted and opened in VW2014, the same thing. All manually-placed seats are there--all placed using the tool are missing. (Same setting?) Whatever help is greatful!
