  1. I recently purchased the 2nd edition (for 2010 VW) of 3D modeling written by Jonathan Pickup....its great, has helped me tremendously. I had struggled for hours to do certain things in VW and can now do in a few minutes.
  2. Taoist made reference to a movie on creating custom railings...the link will not open. Anyone know where to find this Tech-tip video. Original post was 5/30/12 #171320 Thanks
  3. How do you convert a 2D/3D symbol in order to use as the object to extrude along path? I've tried using one of the handrail top profiles and can not use it. Thanks Using 2010 Vectorworks
  4. If a floor level is created in a house design, with walls top and bottom, how do you apply the house outside texture to the floor? The floor may have different textures on different sides, i.e., brick front, siding all other walls. I'm using Architect 2010. Thanks
  5. When remodeling a house for an addition is it best to define existing and new in different classes or separate into different layers. I was creating a different roof from two gable style dormers combined into one larger gable dormer and everything seems OK. I made the entire roof with new dormer layout in a class 'new roof' and left the existing in a class 'existing roof' and am able to turn off or on to suit.
  6. When I did this the color did change but I lost the texture. I found a different siding with the approximate color I wanted so have used that, but still don't understand what happened on the other one.
  7. Seems I encountered another problem....after ungrouping I was able to render the dormer sides, however I didn't notice earlier that the window, which was used initially to create the dormer is now 'covered' by the siding. Because I ungrouped the dormer and roof I can't seem to recover the window. If I delete the front face of the dormer, the window is there. What's up?
  8. After using a std texture, such as 'siding yellow' for exterior walls, can the color be changed and naming a new texture? I can't seem to do this in a design layer - any help?
  9. Thanks Tad. Worked when roof was ungrouped.
  10. When i created a dormer all looks ok except dormer can not be rendered - it does not show as a 'part' of the roof. I think it may have something to do with the window when dormer was created but i'm not sure. Any suggestions?
  11. When a dormer is added to a roof it appears the roof is still there. Should a roof cutout be made prior to adding a dormer? Does the dormer have walls or just a surface? Any help would be appreciated. hgdesign
